  1. I sparred with a friend of a friend, he was really good. From my experiance sparring with Capoeira, he managed to get by some sneaky things past my defence quite a few times. The main advantage I had over him was that it seemed to take longer for him to recover from my succesful attacks, while my training, I was able to adapt and overcome. But I wont make any sound judgements since it was only one time and it wasnt a real situation and also he didnt have to much experiance. Also compared to my experiance with Muay Thai fighters his technique just didnt have enough power to generate any devastating damage. I think it can be effective if applied properly like anything else.
  2. I know exactly what you mean. I saw him in a match and it looked like he lightly put his arm out into the guys face and the guy stumbled back and almost passed out. I'm assuming I'm just missing something seen only by a trained eye in MMA. As for how, I have no idea, I just assumed everyone else knew, and I'd look like a fool to ask.
  3. Ok sorry for mixing it up.
  4. Great job in joining aikido. As said before, some techniques can be applied quickly as in one class i was taught how to hold someone on the ground with them being completly helpless(it worked on me too). I think Aikido is great, however i think it goes well with other MA, if I could afford classes I would join as it would compliment my past MA very well. All I can say is good luck really.
  5. That sounds so great, I'd love to have some classes like that. My sensei is really serious, so the harder you work the harder he works you. So naturally about 30min into each class I think I'll die of exaustion. Any sort of punishment is usually done through pushups after class(Usually 5-7 sets of 20 with 6 second breaks in between), I do knuckle push ups just to show its not enough to keep me down.
  6. I'm glad they have to work for it. However I do have a question. When you say there are only 5 dans...do you mean 10? Or is it a different version of shotokan? And if it is, how do your philosphies or training methods differ from the main system? Just curious.
  7. Oatmeal/porridge
  8. I used to have tekken 3 I think, its been awhile though. Great game.
  9. I think theres some major exageration going on in the add.

  11. The question wasnt directed towards me, however Karate is only as demanding as you want it to be. What you put in, is what you get back.
  12. My thoery is that life always sucks, and it always will. Not to mention it always gets worse.

  16. Just a quick question actually, I was wondering if anyone takes company lableing off their gi when they get it? I do, although I'm not sure exactly why.
  17. Ouch, I thought i had a reason to be upset, and i was just in a bad mood because my computer was going to slow. Sorry to hear about the bad events. Good luck
  18. I agree with you,~~But very much to a lesser degree...
  19. Welcome!
  20. Yea really not a good idea to just learn off the internet. Theres a reason for dojos. Also as Cathal said, learn the text is fine. But to really comprehend it and get the correct guidance, I strongly recommend anyone to go to a real dojo.
  21. I bet theres some crazy guy who lives in some distant remote land who doesnt take any MA and could take the worlds best in a real fight. Theres always someone better.
  22. I own the seven samuri, and have seen house of flying daggers, yeah they are great, but I still thin ong bak was great too. I love the motorcycle chase scene too. awwwww!!! I tried to rent Seven Samurai but they didnt have it! Is it worth watching? O yea and Ong-Bak was a great movie.
  23. Tokaido, the store owner also recommended it.
  24. Well I finally replaced my old cheap gi and got a heavier higher quality one. I found after about 20min I was actually starting to beleive I was going to die of exaustion, however I managed it through. I can really feel the difference in everyway I train, so thanks for the advice everyone.
