Grappling Competition Questions
Jiffy replied to Zapatista's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
If you are looking at submission, Judo would be better than JJJ!! -
How many of you have actual combat experience?
Jiffy replied to kenpo4life's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Nah, just be aware of your surroundings. -
We use both. Jab is definately more powerful!
-
PS - that's probably why they don't use gloves in the first place, I know that's why we don't.
-
I would learn to control your techniques. Anyone can hit with full force, but skilled people can choose how hard they hit.

Pressure Points - mystical or basic biomechanics?
Jiffy replied to Jiffy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Have you got a reference for thsese tests please? They would be interesting to read! -
HEHEHE, true. Good on him too!!

HAHAHA, that's amazing, we had exactly the same situation, but I think he was a green belt at that stage. One of our students was in med-school. After he graduated, he was leaving the dojo one night. Sensei said "Goodnight Simon" (Simon substituted for his real name). He replied with "Dr. Simon". Sensei simply replied with "Not in here you're not. Goodnight Simon". The issue never came up again.

It's always nice to hear the words of compliment. Thank You. I too visit many various forums and I have to agree that many of the discussions that would otherwise get out of control do often retain a respectful manner.

Looks pretty real to me. I agree with DokterVet. And as to why it was being filmed..... bragging rights. It was a friend of the two.
-
I think it shows great respect if you call them Sensei outside of the dojo, but if they expect it, then I think that is just ego.

A question to Karate instructors
Jiffy replied to bushido_man96's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Nope, it's different syllabus. -
How so? If a stance is one leg forward, then any time you have one leg forward, you're in a stance.... I don't understand your statement
-
Kake Geri means literally "hooking kick". If you're looking for a stomp, it's called fumikomi

Held back from what?? Remember that the Martial Arts is in the practise of it, not the end result. What you are feeling is normal. Just relax, let the ego go, and enjoy what you are doing. The next kata will come in good time, when your instructor is ready, after all, he is the expert.
-
I guess what you need to remember here is that even instructors are human. While they are not intentionally biassed, you may find that from time to time, they have thoughts just like any other person. It's one thing to try and keep these thoughts down, but keep the subconcious down is another. Remember one important thing. You know how good you are doing, that's all that matters.

Kata-based Takedowns
Jiffy replied to cathal's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
If you have a look at "Karate Jutsu" (originally called Rentan Goshin Karate Jutsu) by Gichin Funakoshi (the man who created Hein Yondan.... well, modified it from the original Pinan Yondan) you will find there are 6 throws that he applied between the 19 kata. Many have since found others though. -
About Wrestling
Jiffy replied to Rainbow_Warrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Ah, the age old question, what is a martial art? To some it's a fighting art. To others there's more to it. Perhaps it's best to say that a Martial Art is a fighting art that contains many various aspects as included by the practitioner. -
CHI
Jiffy replied to TigerCrane's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Probably best to do a search, there are TONS of topics on this one.... -
My only concern would be that with having the palm facing you, it is likely you will be hitting with a bent wrist, and we all know what that leads too.
-
You need to ensure that the feedback you get from the bag goes through you and into the floor, thus you will not loose any power. What is happening is your absorbing that force yourself and therefore shaking. As the others side, try to relax immediately after making contact, but don't expect immediate results, this literally takes years of practise to get right.

The beauty of restrainting someone is that by applying a good technique and putting them into the ground (notice I said "into", not "on" ) is that you can inflict just as much pain with a non compliant attacker as you could with strikes, sometimes more. Not that I enjoy hurting people, however, I sympathize with law enforcement personnel and their ability to counter a combative suspect and what the law will allow them to do. So true. There always was and always will be little tricks you can use to help the situation. Things like a quick knee into the thigh or grinding knuckles into ribs on the way through when executing a lock always help and for the most part, remain hidden. It's amazing how when you look through incident reports at places I've worked just how many people "tripped over" or "fell into the wall".

Is that like in the movie Road House when Patrcik Swayze says its a job its nothing personal Exactly like that. I loved that movie when I was bouncing!! It's so true though. It's nothing personal.

Pressure Points - mystical or basic biomechanics?
Jiffy replied to Jiffy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yep, same here. Not a believer I'm afraid. I'm yet to see any scientific proof or logical reasoning as the effectiveness of ANY touchless knockouts. AFAIK, they are all the same.... POS. (Power Of Suggestion) This one on the other hand, I think that being a touched pressure point, there's a possibility. -
To think one is untouchable is to lower ones guard thus making themselves in reality, an easy target. Even Superman has his Kryptonite
