Yeah, but that didn't work anyway, he still had more posts than I did You're not all that regular. What's that weird thing you do instead?? Oh that's right... you do work at work. Whoops.

Whooops, sorry. Figured there would be a few I miss. Sorry to those regulars I didn't mention.

Hi Guys, I just hit my 1,000th post and I thought it would be a good opportunity to provide some info on my experience here. Coming on this forum has not only given me something to do while I'm at work and can't be bothered doing anything, but it has also been a great source of information. I've enjoyed sharing my stories and advice with you, and I have had a good time learning from you all too. The topics in here are both controversial, interesting and fun. At this point, I'd like to remind people to have an open mind when talking on the forum. There are plenty of people on here from all different backgrounds with all sorts of different ideas. Anyway, that's all I had to say lately. I'd like to particularly say thanks to a few of the regulars such as Kenpolineage, Sohan, Adohan, Cathal etc. (sorry if I missed anyone). With the same regular people, it creates a real feeling on mateship. Anyway, I'm outta here, thanks for reading. Shawn (jiffy)

Those "special" students that we all have...
Jiffy replied to parkerlineage's topic in Instructors and School Owners
That's exactly right. You are not a babysitter. If your students aren't geting anything out of it, try and try again, but if you really can't get them to try, it's time for the flick. -
What do you mean by too much control? Is there such a thing?
-
Does it just go for one weekend or something?
-
Yeah, that's what I was talking about before, bringing the feet and knees together. It's to protect the jatz crackers!!

HAHAHAHAHA, You going on about that norris stuff again??? LOL -
This is a good thing in that you are not being caught unaware, you just need to ensure though that you don't find yourself doubting your own abilities. You need to be able to remain focused and to keep your confidence and agression.

Yeah, so true. Jiu Jitsu and Hapkido are a pain with the smelly person.

Accepting back past students to the dojo?
Jiffy replied to Shotokan-kez's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
So basically, you just have one person doing the naormal stuff, but concentrating on the new student to get them started. Is that right? -
Pressure Points - mystical or basic biomechanics?
Jiffy replied to Jiffy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There are 3 levels of control the first two do not require you to break the arm. If you are using PAIN COMPLIANCE, then you are gaining COMPLIANCE through the use of PAIN. If you snap the arm, this is something different again. Ummmmm, no. Unless you've been there, you wouldn't understand. -
HAHA I love that one. Music is like Martial Arts in many way, including the fact that both take practice.

Better still.... a Ninja Suit!!!

Those "special" students that we all have...
Jiffy replied to parkerlineage's topic in Instructors and School Owners
First of all, it is VERY HARD!!! I know how you feel. I think those scenarios fit in to two completely different categories and I handle them as such. The first couple fit into the ones that want to do well, but can't. The main thing with these peope is patience. This is very hard to deal with because you know they are trying their hardest, but just not getting there. Make sure you set them some short term goals and praise them just as much as you would with the longer term goals of others. Chances are, most of these won't stick it out, but stand by them anyway and remember that it's effort that counts most. The second category are those that don't want to be there. This is very different. Point blank, if they don't want to be there and the parents are making them, I will discuss with the parents. If the parents disagree, and say they want to be there, I monitor them for a while and see how they go. If they don't enjoy it still or their parents agree they are telling them to be there, I try and find out more information. Try and find out why they are there and what they are getting out of it. Sometimes, it's for their own good. Failing all that, I blankly refuse to teach them. I won't have students that don't want to be there and are not getting anything out of it. -
First time I've heard anything like that. Do you have any info on that? The human body is a failry adaptable piece of work. Although we do need to keep our bodies out of extreme heat or cold, the temperatures we experience on a day to day basis will not have this effect. Different story if you go climbing everest or something.

Sounds pretty good. Sorry about the pay cut. Hope you get the job though.

That's always a good idea. Regardless of the rank, coming into a new school can be nerve racking at the best of times. Take it easy on new students till they get settled. -
These would already exist wouldn't they?!?

I think in general, one sword is more practical than two!
