  1. I seen BJ Penn's on line instrutionals on his website. Does that count? lol!
  2. Regarding MMA events. They have rules! There is other factors that MMA fighters don't trani on for MMA events, such as multiple opponents, weapons. In a real fight there is all the above as well as objects in the way, for example bar fight, you may have pool table, table, chairs, bar, or other objects in the way detering from the effectiveness of certain techniques, in may help with techniques as well though it all depends, either way they are a factor, so enviroment would be another condsideration. Any way I am rambing now so I am going to stop.
  3. Regarding soldiers combatives training, there is alot of mma training going on, mainly do to diffrent ranges of fighting, alive training ( a full resisting partner - which is key to basically seeing what is working and what needs to really be worked on.) regarding eye gouges, and groin strikes its hard to test a indviduals abiality to make these techniques work with out injury to another. Quickest way to get programs shut down in the military is a bunch of soldiers injured, and unable to perform there war time missions. Besides I think those are common since moves any way.
  4. That is awesome! Hey PM me with other stuff that he did you said can't be said on the forum. I would love to hear about it. I would love to attend one of Mario's Seminars. -Jeff
  5. I agree, I would focus on escapes from the bottom, escapes while being hit (get a parnter to put on boxing gloves and punch you) Also I would focus on standing up from the guard, a few submission defenses, Guilotine choke, RNC, straight arm bar, bent arm bar, Kimura, Triangle choke, heal hook, straight knee bar, and toe hold. Those are your higher percetage submissions you see over and over. Also work on take down defense, how to defend from getting thrown from the clinch. Greco Roman Wrestling does alot of this type of throwing. Also develop a good sprawl and defense against some one shooting in. Really alot of alive training. What I mean by "Alive" is a full resisting partner. That way you can see where your at, and then drill on your weak areas, due some situational sparring, then full sparring agan to see where your at and what you improved on and what you need to work on.
  6. Like any of us have never done crazy stuff for girl. I am just saying....
  7. Its often said that when adrenline comes in that fine motor skills are the fist to go, that the person will end up relying more on Gross motor Skills.
  8. Did he say any thing funny in his seminar. I love his instructionals, good techniques as well as comedy relief.
  9. BJJ - Gene Simco style TKD - ATA style
  10. Yeah I prefer having a video camea also. So My instructor can view afterwards. Again congradulations!
  11. That is awesome! PS1 thank you for sharing the tip on north/south postion. What i have just started doing bedasue I got the idea from one of the guys from Team Lloyd Irvin is they bring a note book and after every match they write down, what worked for them, what didn't, how there opponent beat them, as well as there mental state during the match. They would then go next day to training and work on their weakness's. I just started doing that, I believe it will help me out. Good job on the competion by the way.
  12. I am scared or nervous but I don't freeze up at all. I don't think I ever froze up at all actually.
  13. Good job! What are the things you learned about your game and about competing through your match?
  14. Oh yeah mostly definetly he is good! Your in good hands if your instructor is under him. You will be okay. Go train and have fun brother.
  15. Regarding socks the best thing to do is to ask the instructor that question when you go there. As long as you get along with the teamates and they help you learn not just beat you down. You should be good. Just go in there showing respect to the instructor and your fellow classmates, by wanting to learn, helping other students learn by being agood training partner. Ie.(not going all out to try to beat the other people.) take it slow learn, try to work and drill the techniques. It may seem frusterating at first, but keep going and you will get the hang of it. Think of it like this some days your the hammer other days your the nail. I felt like a nail for a long time a few years. Remember this advice. TAP! TAP! TAP! Tap often, don't be a hero, and try to fight out of a submission and get your self hurt. That takes away from your tranining time and makes getting out of the bed and going through your regular day miserable. May sound like common sense but you will get alot of peoiple who have to much ego and won't follow it and there training time is short lived. Any way I hope you have alot of fun, enjoy learning fromt he instructor, and working with your training partners, and have a good time.
  16. Thats good, I probably go into it some day. Right now I am still focusing on my postions and combos
  17. There is mental/emotional training and scenerio training that can help assist you in being more prepared for that. Tony Blauer has some good info out there. Do a google search for his name. Also you can look up roy harris. He has training in that and trains others some times in that. It can be very hard though, not so much physically but I am refering to emotionaly. Some people break down and just can't hanldle that type of training
  18. white owl, I donlt think I ever got over the fear or nervousness. Its always there bofore a competion or sutation that can arise. However I just learn to deal with it better and drive on. As for Martial Arts, I took it for self defense, still do. However I just enjoy learning, more about my body and how to control my opponent, kind of like a game of human chess. I don't get in fights, I avoid siutations like those, or try to talk my way out of them. I don't see my self getting any street fights all the time to where I would be my sole goal for training.
  19. Yeah I prefer the under hook on the arm also. I some times switch it up to go around the head if I am setting up a head and arm choke. Other then that though, I mostly prefer to stay away from going around the head. As metnioned earlier, You can get rolled from there, or your back taken, or other stuff can be applied on you.
  20. I usally never cared for the title, mainly I think some people conjur up in there own minds a hero type worship were the person can do no wrong. Either there perception is shattered to find out the person is human. Or some dubious people with those type of titles and admiration or worship like status have taken advantage of others.
  21. Yeah really! Even in competion I get nervous. I don't let it freeze me up or any thing. I think its generally common. I mean you don't know really what is going to happen, and the since of getting possibly hurt rather concious or sub concious is there. So the stress of the altercation causes nervousness. No big deal, just got to move past it and not let it hinder you, or have you freeze up when you need to deal with the situation.
  22. I would do judo, I would like to learn judo with and with out the gi. I like karo paryisans style. I just think it would be fun. Also would like to do Tai chi, I did very little of it a few times awhile back. However after training I felt relaxed and really good. I would primarily study it for relaxation. arnis/eskrima/kali would be fun to do. I have studyed in the past and would like to contiue with it but finding a good instructor in Hakutsuru is difficult. I studyed in Shihan Tony Sandoval's methods of the Art. It is really good. I think its fun, and helps me understand how to use my body better.
  23. Looks good to me, best thing is to try it out your self see what yhou think of it. Is it helping you reach your goals? Do you like the instructior? the fellow class mates? can you afford the gym dues? Can you travel and make classes on a regular basis? All diffrent factors you got to take into consideration. Try it out, if you like it and its good, then your in the right place. I am insterestead in MMA practice also. Not for comeption just for my personal enjoyment for right now. I am particularly looking into ground and pound aspect. Finding diffrent set ups to get good strikes in, while avoiding my opponet from tangling me up/breaking my posture, or going for or finishing a sub on me. I think its a cool aspect I haven't gotten much into.
