  1. Kicks, I thought there were only 8 Taegeuks, and 5 pyung Ahn's? Anyways, I know all 8 Taegeuks, 1-3 Pyung Ahn, and 1-3 kicho forms. Plus 3 forms (two basic, and one bo form) that my master instructor designed. I also know bits and peices of Koryo. Because my boyfriend knows that one and he is teaching it to me hehehehehe.
  2. I didn't start till I was 24. It took me two and a half years to even think about doing a split. Now I can. I am now one of the more flexible ones in my dojang (at age 30), even better than most of the (adult) BB's. But it took hard work and patience.
  3. I agree. I study TKD. I have done TSD and Judo. Now I'm about to start Jujitsu. So yea. I totally agree. But there is nothing wrong with cross training to fill in the "gaps." But even then, there will still be "holes" somewhere in training. As long as one knows where and what these "holes" are, there shouldn't be a problem.
  4. I agree with ovine king. I have carpel tunnel in both wrists. So push-ups are bad for me. Well, not all that bad, but I can only do a certain amount (25)before my wrists start to hurt, even with proper technique. I can push myself on a good day, but if my wrists are sore, I just do what I can.
  5. pegasi, my instructor is pretty much the same way. Some of the older adults can't kick very high, or they can't jump. But he knows what they CAN do. We even had a wheelchair bound student at one time. He had her replace kicks with hand techniques. I learned her forms her way so I could help her. BUT she knew what a kick should look like, technique-wise, and she picked on me a lot. But it helped me a great deal. For those that can do all the usual stuff, like me for example, he is really tough on (He picks on me a lot LOL).
  6. Tonight I almost kicked a black belt in the head ... Well we were doing kicking drills. We were supposed to kick the air shield with the first kick (a round house), and then step back and do a spinning hook kick (so we don't hit our partner in the face). But I missed judged and just about nailed him. Not once, but twice. Dude is like 6'2 feet tall ... oops
  7. LOL. OMG!!! That is actually funny. Ok, My man (who also trains with me at the same dojang) has a habbit of farting during forms practice. We were doing Taegeuk 7, I believe, and once he got in horse stance, he let one "rip." The whole place just about died laughing LOL
  8. I can get away with that. The style TKD I train in is mixed with some kung fu
  9. Hehehe. I'm still quilty of some of that stuff. I'm a kata/hyung geek I didn't go as far as a victory party for learning a form, but that's not a bad idea hehehehehe
  10. Not till now. Heidi wants to get me to snowboard. And get me on a wakeboard this saturday LOL. It'll be fun trying LOL In my youger days, I did play softball. I still got my pitching "edge" I was a pretty good sprinter as well.
  11. I'm glad I helped a bit. Good luck in your search. Let me know how it goes.
  12. Wow! I didn't think of it that way. Thanks I'll start looking at my dreams closer. Thanks to you both.
  13. Hehehehe Heidi. But Our chats do help (and thanks for your advice yesterday ).
  14. mantis, welcome to KF Well, I would say it depends on the school itself, not the org or what have you. Two schools can be part of the same org and be totally different. So it's best to visit several schools to check them out. As far as my school goes (I do WTF TKD), it's pretty good. I like the fact that we make use of boxing type of punches, elbows, knees (just not in sparring), ect. We even do take-downs. The drawbacks that this school has is there is no ground defenses, except for two, and no grappling. And I don't think the "take-downs" are taught properly (eventhough some pick it up later), and breakfalls should be taught way more than it is now. They do have some joint locks, but I believe they should add more. But there's nothing wrong with cross-training
  15. I have only studied WTF style TKD. But I have seen ITF in action. All I have to say is, "WOW!" I never actually studied ITF, but from what I have seen is just awsome. So I have to agree with isshinryu5toforever. I have never seen or studied ATA, so I can't really judge them.
  16. I used to spend anywhere from 4 to 6 hours on the PC. But now it's anywhere from 5 minutes, to and hour at one sitting. But on the weekends, I can be on the PC for a bit longer (specially when Heidi is on LOL).
  17. Wow! That's cool. Maybe my old association did it the same way, but my old instructor just decided to wait. I can't really remember. I do know that he was already a 4th dan when he went for his Sa Bom test. And he was/is an excellent teacher. And he worked his tail off for it. He would stay after teaching all day to work on stuff (along with the rest of us dojang dwellers LOL). That I do remember.
  18. Thanks Manabimasho1 That was interesting. Thought provoking. I will try to do that. Oh and I'm not afraid of spiders. I usually pick them up and let them craw on me or play with them LOL. So that could mean that I am close to my mom, right (which is true)? She is my best friend and we act like best friends when we get together (like shopping, eating out, having fun, ect).
  19. I agree with everyone else here. It happens. It's totally normal. Even master instructors have bad days. If I said I didn't, I'd be a total liar. Just keep plugging away at it. Don't let it dampen your training spirit
  20. TSDMGK_K40 is right. I'm no where near that rank (or ever was in TSD), but I remember my TSD instructor going through that. He said (if I'm remembering correctly) that you have to be a 4th dan. The Sa Bom certification is a totally seperate test from your 4th dan. You go through the test for 4th dan, (if you pass) you wait a year, then take the Sa Bom certification test. I don't know what the requirements are though.
  21. Manabimasho1, I don't think you're nuts, and I actually enjoyed your post. But your interpetations maybe a little off. Because my father died last year. BUT part of it may be true. I may be looking to "replace" that father figure. I also kind of figured out my own interpetation. Tell me what you think. Anyways, I think the "white belt" part is referring to something that has nothing to do with MA. It has to do with life in general. I'm making changes in my life .... new job, going to school in september, ect. I'm putting on the new "white belt of life". I'm starting fresh in my life. But when I refused it in my dream, I think that just means I am sub-consciously scared of the new things that will happen. But since I took it and hated the white belt in my dream, it means that it won't be a easy road to the "new life." I'm going to have to bust my behind to get there. I probably won't enjoy the journy much, but I will stick it out till I HAVE that new life (new career).
  22. Heidi if your online, PM me on MSN ...
  23. Same way I feel. Heidi. I can't afford to go back to NJ all the time, and wish I could move back. But, at least, I have this one chance I am planning to go down for a week to train and spend time with my mom, so it will be cool.
  24. I really don't know myself. I was wondering if it will happen like that in the future, or if this dream was just that, a dream. I don't think I would be that un-modest (is that a word?? LOL) about wearing a white belt. I've done it twice already. Anyways, maybe someone that likes to figure dreams out will stop in
  25. My fav form is Pyung Ahn Ee Dan (Heian Nidan). I left off at sam dan (Heian Sandan) in Tang Soo Do. I still practice those forms now and then. They are fun to practice. In TKD, I'm on Taegeuk 7, eventhough I know 8.
