  1. Thanks Fairfax I didn't realize it at first, but I do know now that I did have a little bit of an ego. But that's gone now. TJS, I didn't ask. But I can find out, or Heidi can peek in here to tell you.
  2. White Warlock, that's how I feel right now. I totally agree. It was a great experience. Thankfully I am going to do it again I just have to say thanks to Heidi and Mike for giving me this chance to learn something new (I learn a lot from these folks).
  3. Ok, well. I'm not quiting TKD. BUT I found an art for me. I had this thread in general chat about a dream that I had about wearing a white belt again. I hated every minute of it, blah blah blah. I was beginning to think that was true (eventhough I have started over before and even wrote an article on it). I wouldn't put no dang white belt back on. Guess what? I'm a white belt again A friend of mine who is a 4th dan (Heidi will correct me if I'm wrong) in Jujitsu just gave me my first lesson on his front lawn. I was totally blown away. He said he would help me make my TKD better, ect. He will work from that. I don't think he would make me wear a uniform at all, really. But if he told me that I had to, I would be in a white belt. He showed me that I don't know much, even with TKD. Well, he showed me stuff to make it better, that is. And other stuff. And I learned that I know nothing of this art (Jujitsu). But I do know that the little bit that I did learn is AWSOME!! I thought I'd share my experience (my reason for putting this in General MA chat). I'm also rambling a bit. It's late, and I'm SIKED hehehehe
  4. Hey, I'm a 2nd gup too! Nice job! I'd love to learn the Palgue forms, but I do WTF, so in my dojang, it won't happen. Unless I learn them on my own. I also did Tang Soo Do, which did Bassai. I couldn't wait to do that form, but I moved and didn't get a chance. Let me know how you like it Oh and I'm also a one step sparring and forms geek LOL. Sparring, I am ok at, but not my strong point either, eventhough one of my friends would argue that LOL (she's on this board).
  5. I don't do the Palgue forms, but in a tourny, I saw (and was beat by) one of them being perfomed. They are nice looking forms. I couldn't tell ya which one is was, though. It was a girl who had a blue belt with red stripe (different ranking system than our dojang). I wish I knew what form it was. It looked SWEEET I'd love to learn it (I'm a forms geek LOL).
  6. I will be learning (jujitsu) from one of my good friend's husband. He (and her) was an instructor in CA. He and his wife (my bud) had their own dojo at one time. I don't see a problem with it. When he is training me, I will be his student, nothing more. If a bunch of us go out for beers afterwards, that's another story. But he has the knowledge, so I will be a willing student that listens while he is teaching me. I also have a friend that wants to learn kickboxing. I do TKD, but I am willing to teach her, eventhough I have never done kickboxing. She isn't in it for rank or anything, so I can teach her the basics. But I am going to stress the fact that she can not use what I teach her for real, unless it's life or death, ect. My friend's hubby is teaching me for free. So I am going to turn that around and teach another friend for free. What goes around , comes around
  7. The Admin Patrick doesn't. But he is a good guy, and knows a lot about this site.
  8. Hehehe Karate25, that was pretty funny. My instructor gives us a lecture on getting a black belt once in a while. He says "if you want a black belt, pick up a Black Belt mag, and order one. Here you got to earn it" (insert heavy asian accent LOL).
  9. I have a BOB in my living room. He serves the purpose for my semi small house. And I do like the fact that I can aim for targets with him. But his head (too soft) isn't realistic.
  10. I saw it. I think it was a good goal. Fitness-wise, I'm doing the same thing for my black belt test in April. But the kid needed some technique work, IMHO. The dad was pretty flexible for his age and weight. He had pretty decent technique for a beginner.
  11. I agree. I do TKD, and I do all the fancy kicks. BUT I wouldn't be stupid enough to kick higher than the ribs. Hand techs are actually perfered for me. Anyways, I have used my training in self defense, but I was in Tang Soo Do at the time. I used hand techs first, and used a side kick to the ribs to finish. It worked well for that situation. My TKD school actually teaches to use knees, elbows, low kicks, and palm strikes to vital areas, so I think I could use it in a real situation as long as a gun isn't involved.
  12. I miss the pyung ahn forms (heian ..sp?) Pyung ahn Ee Dan is still my all time favorite. In TKD, I'm kind of working on techniques for all of them (Taegeuks), but Taegeuk sah jang is turning out to be my best. I know all 8, but technique-wise, I like that one (but then again, it changes month by month LOL).
  13. I cross trained in Judo for a while. I was only a 5th gup/kyu at the time. It was different enough that I didn't mix the two (Judo and TKD, that is). Now I'm a 2nd gup and I'm about to take Jujitsu (when my schedule settles down). I'll let you know how that goes. From what I have seen, most karate schools mix Judo and/or jujitsu with in their system, anyways (at least in my area, that is). One Shotokan school I visited (and trained at for a short time) mixed jujitsu with Shotokan. If it didn't close down, I would have went back. So I don't think it's a problem, as long as the two arts don't "clash" or are so simlar that you confuse them.
  14. How about "under-estimating" a 60 year old 2nd dan female .... Ouch! Yes, I did that last night. She put me down HARD during self defense (take-down part). It's a good thing I knew breakfalls. I needed them working with her! She never goes easy on me, but last night she went all out on me ... Wow!
  15. I used to play drums, and a little guitar. I'm trying to get back into playing drums, though.
  16. When I lived in southern NJ, there were just about everything you wanted to study (or a good bit of choices). I took TSD there, because I liked the school. There is more TSD and TKD than the other choices, though. About half of them were Mcdojos, though. Here is McDojo-ville .... I mean, lots of schools. Mostly TKD schools that are either belt factories or no good teaching-wise. There is only two that I know of that are good. I attend one of them. The other is a few towns away. I heard good things about them. There a few Ishin Ryu schools. I checked one out. They were pretty decent, but too far. There is a lot more choices in the City of Rochester, but I'm not driving that far LOL.
  17. I totally agree. When I did TSD, I had no one to practice with at home, so that's all I did is kata. It was a great workout, and I got a lot out of it.
  18. Enviroman, Heidi actaully is the one that helped me find what my dog was mixed with. He is definitely part shepard, but I couldn't figure out what he was mixed with for the life of me. Then Heidi found a couple of websites, and we looked it up (I did more research at home), and the character trates and the temperment matched. So I am about 80% sure he is part chinook. Thanks Heidi
  19. My dog is 60 pounds right now. He is a chinook, shepard mix. So I voted medium.
  20. My old instructor said that if you are not tired and/or sweating after doing your forms, you didn't do it right LOL. I still believe that to this day.
  21. isshinryu5toforever, I don't learn the forms by numbers, but I can tell you that the Taegeuks are kind of easy compared to the pyung ahn's. That's the only difference I can give you. But yea, I do agree.
  22. LOL. That was funny. My dog perfers cheese, or ham, though LOL.
  23. I have those, Kicks. Aren't they just amazing? I love those vids.
