  1. That might work, as long as it doesn't "bleach" my red belt. Washing it doesn't bother me, so I might give that a try.The same with the GOO GONE. That's my only concern, is the bleaching affect of any product. My belt is already starting to fade by itself (and two washings) over 11 months LOL. But thanks so much for your advice all
  2. I do WTF. We don't do point sparring. We do full contact (light to med with lower ranks, and kids). WTF isn't all that bad. Even my jujitsu intructor was impressed with our defenses that we learn (at my dojang, anywho). Like it was said before, it depends on the instructor/dojang. So you can't group all of us in one group with the McDojangs because of one bad experience. You should actually seek out a good WTF dojang and check out the difference (they are few and far between, though, so look hard). You would be amazed.
  3. I have 5 uniforms. The first one I got in Tang Soo Do is a size 4 Proforce light weight. It's the only uniform that fits me the best (no rolling up the sleeves or rolling the waiste in the pant), besides my Jujitsu gi. My TSD sparring gear (head gear, boots, and hand gear) were from Macho (I gave them away when I started TKD). My TKD uniforms are all size 4, but from three different makers. Centery, Bold, and .... I have to look on the other one. I forget now. They don't fit right either. The tops fit good, but the pants are too big (the waiste is too high and they are wide ... looks like "clown pants" LOL). My sparring gear is a mixer of brands. I bought whatever fit LOL. My jujitsu gi is a size 3 "no-name" brand Judo gi. Single weave (bleached). It fit's perfect, though. No sparring gear required Just pain tolerance (sp?) I'm jealous that some of you have black gi/doboks. I want one (insert little girl voice begging for it hehehehe). But my sensei said I can buy black pants for Jujitsu WHOOHOOO!
  4. Coolness! I like that. Good idea Andrew
  5. Hey, folks. I like this thread. Anyone else like KF Speaking of forums, the story I'm about to write is one reason KF is the best. I was on another forum (not mentioning it for fear of giving them a sameful plug LOL), and they got talking "egos." So, I posted my feelings, "Ego shouldn't be in MA, but you can't change people. They will continue going around acting like their .... umm "stuff" don't stink" blah blah blah. Stuff along those lines in that post. I wasn't putting anyone down, and just gave my humble opinion. I tried to get in there today, and my account was suspended. No email or explaination ... nothing. On KF, opinions are welcome (just not to the point of flame wars or fights). If they decide you should be booted (according to the guidelines), you get an explaination, and a fair warning first. Then they boot you if you do it again. Or three strikes, you're out type deal. So, I give Patrick and the mods past (they know who I'm talking about ) and present a big Job well done.
  6. I read an article on him in Black belt magazine a while ago. But that's as far as I got.
  7. I do TKD and Jujitsu. The two are so different (for the most part) that they are hard to confuse. My Jujitsu instructor is even helping me prepare for my upcoming TKD test. How cool is that I show him what we have to do, and he "tweeks" it a bit to make it work for me without changing it too much (just with a little jujitsu "twist" so to speak hehehehehe).
  8. I do JJ (traditional). I feel it's well rounded. It's got everything from striking, joint locks, throws, self defense in general, ect. It's not "grappling" per-say, but it's got some "sweet" ground defenses. And it's definitely not made for "sport" like TKD (but I enjoy that, too ).
  9. He ment if they throw them by hand, not shoot them through a gun. I never heard of the movie, so I can't really give an opinion.
  10. IcemanSK, hehehehe. Did ya ... umm, pass gas during the test? LOL That was a cool story though.
  11. italian_guy, I know what you mean. I'm trying not to do so, and just train hard. My goal right now, though, is to know my stuff inside and out before I test for 1st gup again. I want to be in top form (without over doing it). But a friend of mine gave me advice the other night (similar to what you said). I was comparing myself to BB's (I'm not even one yet LOL), and I was actually "pushing" myself further from BB. Basically what she said is, don't do that, just train. Train hard to improve for youself, not them. So, that's is what I'm trying to do (a mini-goal so to speak).
  12. My instructor wouldn't like it if he found out I cross-train. BUT he wouldn't stop me. There's been others that cross-trained and he didn't stop them either, but he was not happy. My Jujitsu instructor is married to one of our TKD instructors (sister school). My TKD instructor will probably find out anyways, but I'm going to continue both.
  13. I'm not a BB yet, but when my boyfriend got his, we all (BB's, instructors, and family) went out to dinner. Then Him and I partied till the wee hours of the morning. When I get mine, I'll probably do the same. Plus I may cry like a little girl at the BB graduation LOL.
  14. IcemanSK, thanks Yea, I think the time off did help. I took tonight off from class, because I am really sore. But I will be back on thursday. lgm, yes I do have a goal. And it is black belt. BUT not for the rank itself. It's to discover myself as a martial artist after getting my BB. Usually people change after they test for BB for the better or they go downhill (quit, ect). Or they just re-discover who they really are as a person. I'm actually looking forward to that.
  15. You got ripped. It's only $150 here (i believe ... I haven't tested for BB yet). We don't pay for color belt testing either, other than $5 for the belt.
  16. We have a probationary BB. It's just a plain black belt with nothing on it. Which comes before 1st dan (with writing on it). My view on it is to see who is for real and who's not (I don't know if this is my instructors view, but it's what I've seen). Red and black belts in our dojang test every 6 months, and some don't go that long. They just quit. The ones who are serious still train, hang in there and bust their butt to get to BB. Some quit after that, but for the most part, they stay and work their buns off.
  17. I did go through the whole curriculum yesterday. It felt great. I haven't missed a beat (except my bo form got a little sloppy), thank goodness. Then I did a lot of kicking drills. Then I had jujitsu class that night. My body is "screaming" right now (mainly from the breakfalls, and joint lock drills that we did), but it was totally worth it. I'm back into training now. A Long chat with my Sensei and his wife helped a great deal too (they are mad smart about martial arts and gave me loads of advice). I'm so siked now
  18. I forgot to mention my jujitsu class. Just my gi. I don't carry anything, because it's in my house (lessons). No sparring gear required LOL. I got pretty beat up last night though (sore today LOL).
  19. No he doesn't. And I don't go easy on him. Nobody in class does, except with the juniors (kids).
  20. I change before I go to class, so I already have my uniform on, and I just carry a minimal amout of gear in a relatively small bag. It just has my sparring gear in it. And I also have to take my bo with me. But that's about it.
  21. I cross-train. But TKD takes up most of my time. I do train in Jujitsu once per week (friday), but it's hard to find practice time during the week between TKD, my weird work schedule, and my home life. But I manage, at least, one day to practice Jujitsu outside of class (usually on saturdays, I'll do TKD in the morning, then practice Jujitsu that night). I'd say if you have the time to do so, cross-train
  22. Well, I used TSD, not TKD (which is similar in some ways) on the street. I haven't had to use martial arts since, but it worked. I walked away without a scratch (thank goodness). I do TKD now, but I never had to use it.
  23. If you had a 6 year "gap," (between training at each dojo) white belt is a good choice. But if you had a month gap, they might let you slide. But I was a blue belt in TSD (5th gup/kyu) and I went to TKD as a white belt (I only had a month gap between both arts after moving). I had a problem with it at first, but the styles are so different (in many ways, but not all), I realized that it was the right choice. If you move to one dojo to the next, they can be like night and day. No one dojo is the same as the next, even if they are the same style. I'd say, go with the white belt Start from scratch, and learn the techniques right instead of "rushing" to get to your previous rank. I have an article on this in the article section called "Starting Over." Read that I'm proudly a white belt again in Jujitsu. It doesn't bother me one bit (eventhough my rank still stands in TKD).
  24. I have been in TKD for 4 years, and I'm just a red belt (2nd gup). But people I started with passed me in rank, so it depends on the person. But if he gets his BB before the age of 15 in WTF TKD, it's a "junior BB." In my dojang, the kids don't learn as much as the adults. But if they turn 15 before they test for BB, they have to learn the adult stuff, then test. The kids usually take longer than the adults to test for BB. I seen adults test as soon as 2 years, but that's with previous MA training. Most of the kids here take 4 to 7 years, depending on their situation and how often they train. It could be different elsewhere, though.
  25. Yea, that was cool. I feel better today, too. Physically and mentally. It was great to workout again. Tomorrow is "open" class, which is when the students of all ranks train together, and we can work on "whatever." So I am going through the whole curiculum, at least twice. That would be a good "refresher."
