  1. sorry im a little confused. so if i want to lose weight, it's better for me to walk at a brisk pace right? but if i want endurance (i think that's what you mean by cardiovascular fitness) it's best for me to run? thanks.
  2. I just read on a website that if you want to lose weight, walking is better then running, because "when you run short of breath and have to breath deeply (anerobic exercise), your body will burn sugar and not as much fat." is this true? edit: another question.. "ABS- If you sit a lot at your job or at home, you probably have a flabby stomach. In order to tighten your abdonimal muscles / stomach, you should: stand or sit with a tall posture, and hold your stomach in as much as possible. The best exercise you can do during the day to tighten your abs is: When you exhale, pull your stomach in, pushing the air out. Pull your stomach in tightly and a little quickly, then let it out naturally while you breath air back in the lungs. Pulling the stomach in tightly acts to push the air out of your lungs as you build your ab muscles. " I already do crunches, but i can't do this at school or anything... but this does work right? sorry im a little skeptical with some websites nowadays since a lot of them have false information.
  3. it sounds good to me. i wish i had a place like that where i live.
  4. thanks kickchick. i think when you run and you dont stretch after, you lose a bit of your flexibility. i better start stretching after i run! i'll try the stretches you suggested.
  5. Thanks. but is it possible the knee pain might have been caused by lack of exercising the last few days(well more like lack of running)? for example i just started running last week, and last night when i ran my knees didn't hurt at all. im going to run later today, to see if my knees will hurt again. thanks again people.
  6. I would stop running, but what other cardios are there? I don't have a bike at the moment (sad, but true), and jump roping seems to have the same effect on my knees as running does. I could work against a heavy bag, but they can cost up to 100 dollars, and that's money I don't have. And there is no pools near by, not any I can go to at the moment. But I neeeed to do cardio.
  7. Hi, I've been running one or two miles everyday now. But after running or during running my knees just hurt. It's not unbearable pain, but is it normal for your knees to hurt? Thanks.
  8. Yeah that is normal. But what I'm worried about is this... *embarrased*... Is it normal for your period to last longer then usual? I learned it should only last about 5-7 days, but mine lasts about two weeks!!
  9. Hi, I was just wondering, does hapkido have hand strikes? If so which ones? How about elbows and knees? thanks.
  10. Aikido pants look funny. Don't shoalin monks practice wu shu? I thought they didn't sparr either.
  11. welcome. why did you quit?
  12. for sparring just practice and you'll get it... but anywho, as for getting jumped just try to be aware and observant of things when you go outside.
  13. i got hit by an elbow on the head and it wasn't that hard either. but it hurt so much.
  14. im gonna try some of these out. thanks guys.
  15. It would be a bit awkward going to school with a blackeye. Last time some girl did it everyone asked her if she got into a fight. I mean everyone in the whole school, lol. I think I will take muay thai though... Uhh hope it doesn't hurt too much when you sparr... Do you ever get used to the pain?
  16. I bet if they sparred other martial artists a lot and they practiced hard I guess they could get good. Plus their sparring partners can tell them if they are doing a technique wrong and stuff..
  17. cool! nice to meet you. welcome to the boards.
  18. muay thai for its effectivness in stand up fighting. TKD for it's cool kicks. boxing for punches, BJJ for graplling, aikido for locks, tai chi for chi, eskrima for weapons. of course there's no way in h e l l that i'm gonna train in all those styles and get good in them. so probably just muay thai, bjj, eskrima..
  19. It sounds okay but it's really hard to tell just by looking at the site.
  20. great job. i hope you will do well on your next tournament if you plan to go!
  21. oh i forgot to add. if you can't run or hate running, try buying some jump rope and use it. i remember hearing 1 minute jump roping equaled 3 minutes jogging.
  22. start running everyday for 30 minutes to one hour. You will notice your endurance improves very fast this way.
  23. yes i think it is possible to get ripped using calithenics because all you need to do is get a little muscle and the most important thing is to burn the fat which can be done with cardio, not weightlifting. but i dont have any scientific evidence of this, its just a theory. i guess they dont do it cos they think it decreases flexibility which is not entirely true unless you don't stretch.
  24. hi does anyone know any good leg strength/endurance exercises without using any weights or equipment. So far I have hindu squats and running. any more ideas? thanks.
