  1. Is there an indigenous or representative art that differs from Japan or North America? You didn't list anything. I would put Hawaii in the Pacific Islands region, and choose Kali from those.
  2. And the Chargers just hired Norv Turner and Ted Cottrell.
  3. I've seen a lot of BJJ instructors with them. They are awesome - very Jedi.
  4. That would my first choice, a tall Thai bag. If I could fit one in my gym, I'd be all over that.
  5. Yes, or you can quickly pivot on your foot and throw it. In that case, it is best thown as you move toward your target. Like I said, if it is a good kick for you, do it. My MT instructor loves it because it's his best kick; he is also a 5th Dan in Tang Soo Do, so go figure. My best kick is the teep. Roundhouse is more effective than a side kick because it is so powerful. But you have to do what works for you.
  6. I'd love to own the Seattle Seahawks, but somehow I suspect Paul Allen can afford them better than I can. I also wouldn't mind owning a minor league team, like an Arena Football team. Or starting a new sport like an MMA version of Rollerball.
  7. Foreign Affairs Newsweek PC World Smithsonian I just subscribed my wife to Digital Photographer and PC Photo. She's loving her photography. My kids all get Shonen Jump and my daughter also gets NewType and Shojo Beat. We are a very anime household.
  8. I'm doing man projects finally, thank God. Fixing up my workshop and putting up my heavy bag in my gym. Lowe's loves me.
  9. Ours is supposed to start melting this week. I NEED my kids to go back to school.
  10. As much time as you spend on here, I'm not sure I should! Try http://kansascity.craigslist.org/. It is a great site for selling used stuff, buying used stuff, personal ads, and all around postings. It was literally started by a guy named Craig in San Francisco, but it is worldwide now. Take a look. You may never leave our computer again.
  11. Those are great points, Bushido Man. But everyone is a victim or hero of the circumstances of their times. Rex may be just as you said, but the rest of the Bears team is ready now. That is the root of their frustration. Griese isn't the answer, either. I think Rex will get another year to grow. But he isn't David Carr and won't get years of looks. I don't think Trent Green is your long-term solution, either. I also think the Chargers management just screwed their team up big time.
  12. Yep. Round kicks and teep kicks are so much more effective. And the shin bone hurts your opponent a lot more than a foot does.
  13. Agreed. Though there are some pretty amazing girl v girl fights on YouTube.
  14. That sucks! I'm with ya, brother. On my birthday in Nov 2005, I tripped over my cat on the stairs and sprained my ankle. ON my birthday! It's the same ankle I've hurt four times previously. Damn cat just looked at me howling. I could tell she was laughing.
  15. Thanks, Bushido Man, I'll check all that out. He's one big dude. Not sure I remember him from the movie yet.
  16. Muay Thai is teaching me how I what I thought was my defense against head shots wasn't enough. Bobbing, slipping, weaving, and ducking are so much easier than using energy and resources (your hands) to block. Not easier to execute - it takes practice, and I'm certainly no expert - but worth time learning. Bottom line: in real fights, someone will be punching at your head.
  17. That was great!
  18. Welcome! More expertise is always good.
  19. Welcome, Marine! Always good to have a fellow sea service member. Signed, Navy.
  20. If women never spar against men, how are they supposed to learn to fight them for real? I think men need to suck it up and figure it out. The women deserve our best effort.
  21. Vielen Dank, mein Freund! (See? Those German lessons are paying off.)
  22. Who did he play for, and over what time period?
  23. That's what I think, too. When I have literally fought for my life, it has been in the outdoors, the ocean, or in an airplane; I can't say what that's like when fighting another human hand to hand. But my life was literally at stake, it was way more stressful than any competition I've ever been in.
  24. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is low impact. You'd have to try it to see if your joints hurt.
  25. Good 1+15 workout at home today. I'm looking forward to mounting my 50 lb heavy bag this afternoon so I can train punches, kicks, elbows, and knees at home.
