I split off the music-related threads into http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8888 Since they were off-topic

Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" always seems to inspire me... Anyway, I think breaking has a lot more to do with technique and conditioning than power. Sure, power has a lot to do with it, but there are a lot of other elements. You can't just lift weights and suddenly be better at breaking.

I've pulled this one on about 6 of my friends Some friend I am

I split off Tidus' post about looking for a style of martial arts. That thread can now be found here: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8878 As to the current topic of conversation: Sweet Sixteen, never been kissed...and no date either I'm still waiting for "Prince Charming"

Sensei: "I'd like to use Phil here to demonstrate a technique." -> I'd like to make Phil cry.

I used to have a really bad temper, and self-esteem issues. I still have a temper, but I've learned to control it. I have a lot more self-confidence now. And I have a great circle of friends. And of course, I'm in better physical condition, more muscle tone, able to defend myself, all that good stuff.

There's always that thing where you drop a ruler and catch it again... But seriously, a good drill for improving reflexes (working with a partner) Stand sideways in a fighting stance, facing your partner, also in a fighting stance. Lift the arm that is closest to your partner (your partner will do the same) above your head, and touch your forearm to your partner's forearm. Basically what you're doing is exposing your rib cages to each other. From here, your partner will start to throw a reverse punch to your rib cage. As soon as you see him/her throw the punch, you will react and throw a punch to their rib cage. You want to try to beat them to the punch. This works on reaction time, because you have to wait for your partner to start the punch. It also works on hand speed...reaction is useless if you don't have speed in your movements.

I've only ever trained on firm mats (not the super squishy kind that feels like a bouncy tent from the fair). I'm too clumsy to risk doing anything (sparring, jump kicks, etc) on anything hard or wooden

Hey, we're not done welcoming you yet Welcome to the forums!

Spiderman is much smarter than Wolverine...after all he's a scientists and all that stuff. When it comes to wise-cracks, however, he's kinda lame. He's a geek...Wolverine is much cooler. So in a battle to the death, Spiderman vs. Wolverine, the winner would be....Superman! Those Marvel boys don't know a thing about Kryptonite. When Spiderman 2 comes out, we can compare ticket sales with that of X-Men 2. A popularity vote may be the closest we come to a true answer.

I actually got into a heated argument one time with some people as to which ninja turtle was which. Those people had terrible memories. In order: 1. Michelangelo -- gotta love his silly, upbeat attitude. Actually, the user jake here on KF has always reminded me of Mikey! 2. Leonardo -- The classic leader 3. Donatello -- purple is such an awesome color, plus he had that bo staff and he was smart too. 4. Raphael -- I could never stand his attitude. Probably because I would've been grounded for life if I ever acted like him. April was a favorite of mine, too. I have such fond memories of the toys, board games, video games, movies, and yes, TMNT fruit pies. I was watching TMNT 3 with my dad the other day, and he commented on how much my friends and I were like them. I took it as a compliment

A Gameboy Advanced might be a good idea since it's smaller, and still has great graphics and games. I don't know about a portable TV though, sorry.

This break dancer guy has his own website, and he's got some pretty good down-to-earth explanations of flips and moves and stuff. I found this when I was Googling, trying to find info on a side aerial. The info he gave was good, but I still can't do one http://www.geocities.com/bboy_mephisto/moves.html

I only dance when I'm being goofy, because silly dances are the only ones I have. Nobody makes fun of you when you're trying to look stupid. Lately, I've been dancing to music in my bedroom when nobody else is around. I don't know where that's coming from. Some people have a fear of public speaking...I have a fear of public dancing. Give me a speech over a dance any day!

That was silly....

I'm gonna move this to the Website forum since it has more to do with the website, and less to do with MA.

That movie was hilariously stupid...especially when the evil guy was looking at those pictures and saying: "Tiger, tiger tiger...ooh birdy!" I mean, c'mon where else can you find a martial arts movie with Austin Powers humor? Naturally, my mother hates the movie -

Everybody plateaus at some point. I can usually tell when somone is going to be a good student. They put in a lot of effort during class. They're usually fairly flexible and fast (since those are both traits that TKD loves), they pick up new things quickly. A "natural" is kind of tough to miss. Aside from that, everyone has talent. There are very few people who have no chance at becoming a good martial artist. I have been wrong a few times, though. I thought someone was going to be a great martial artist, but they didn't have the dedication. They just come to class and dance through the requirements. The sad part is, I can't make them try harder.

Burger Kings will sometimes give you a Veggie Whopper...everything but the burger. McDonald's has their new salads. Applebee's has really good salads and such. What's your idea of a "healthy" breakfast? One that excludes pancakes/waffles and breakfast meats? That leaves fruit, which you can just buy at the grocery store. Please give us some more details about your diet so we can give you more detailed suggestions
