  1. Welcome to the forums! I commend your attitude, and would like to add this motto to your stock of them: "Attitudes are contagious...is yours worth catching?"
  2. Considering Doug's warning, and how most of the replies in this thread have been about which would win in a fight, I'm going to close this thread. Please refer to the comparative styles guidelines: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7413.
  3. I would just like to remind you that even Sport MAs are not invincible. They too can be turned into McDojo styles, even though they don't really use forms...because forms aren't the deciding factor in a McDojo. Second, styles that do use forms don't ruin your training forever. Many of them do train their students to be fighters. Just wanted to clarify that
  4. I'm going to move this to Getting Started in the Martial Arts, because that's where it belongs...and also because right now you'll mostly be getting replies from the Wing Chun community
  5. Do you have a camcorder to record yourself with? You seem to know what your problem is, just not how to fix it. Perhaps if you can watch yourself a little more closely, you'll be able to tell. Just a suggestion Good luck!
  6. When doing a comparative post, the same rules apply for replying. Please try to give some supporting details, not just an answer.
  7. James Bond should never get married. Ever. Not even to Money Penny. He doesn't deserve Money Penny, either...she's allegedly the only woman he ever truly loved...but then he goes and sleeps with all these other women!! And it's not always necessary to the mission!! James Bond is cool, but he can never settle down, and shouldn't try.
  8. Thanks for your replies! Currently, I'm typing with a band-aid on the end of my finger...it's started to rip off a little more. I don't think there's any risk of infection because there's already another layer of fingernail underneath, and no kind of open sore. The finger itself doesn't hurt, the only pain involved is the pressure of the fingernail that's still attached.
  9. I liked Die Another Day because I was able to accept one fact: James Bond movies are never 100% great. My major problem with Die Another Day was Jinx...she annoyed me. However, this movie really reminded me of how great Pierce Brosnan is. I think he's like, the second best James Bond ever (first place of course being reserved for Sean Connery). But that's just me
  10. Fenris-wolf: I think that's why Martial_Artist encouraged sansoouser's father to own a handgun. He has already shown that he can take charge and think clearly in a dangerous situation. In this case, I think it would be a very good idea for him to own a handgun. Sure, there are some people that I would never suggest owning a handgun, but I think in this case, it wouldn't harm sansoouser's father to own a handgun. As long as the family is responsible about it (i.e.: young children understand that they shouldn't touch it), there is no problem. I am a firm believer in the statement: "Guns don't kill people, people do." My father has owned a gun for most of my life. My brother and I were raised to understand that we should never touch the gun, and we never did. We always knew where it was, so that we didn't accidentally come across it if a friend or relative was visiting who turned out to be less responsible. It was never kept loaded, and only my parents knew where the ammunition was kept. We've never had to use it, we've never had a problem with it (except when it was recalled by the government once, and came back as a different model ). Because of this, I think that a family can be responsible about a handgun. I'm not trying to get into anything political here, though. These are just my opinions and experiences.
  11. Here are all 20 of the official James Bond films, in order: Dr. No From Russia With Love Goldfinger Thunderball You Only Live Twice On Her Majesty's Secret Service Diamonds Are Forever Live and Let Die The Man With the Golden Gun The Spy Who Loved Me Moonraker For Your Eyes Only Octopussy A View to a Kill The Living Daylights Licnce to Kill Goldeneye Tomorrow Never Dies The World is Not Enough Die Another Day And then there's Casino Royale (starring either Peter Sellers or David Niven, depending on the version) and Never Say Never Again.
  12. If your mom freezes like that in a situation that turns out to be more serious, it's up to YOU as a martial artists, to take charge. Telling your mom what to do isn't going to be enough; you have to grab her by the arm and pull her into the van! Your dad has a good head about him, though...quick thinking.
  13. One of my friends stepped on the ring finger of my right hand a few months ago, and bruised the fingernail pretty bad (in addition to possibly fracturing my finger, not sure). Anyway, the finernail has now decided to split horizontally, halfway down the nail. The split is almost completely across the nail now, although the nail seems to be staying on...at least until it's completely severed, that is. This has never happened to me or anyone in my family...what should I do? Do I wrap it in a band-aid until I can see a doctor about it? I'd have to wait until monday afternoon/evening to be seen by my doctor, because of the holiday weekend...even then I don't know if I can get an appointment. I don't think it really qualifies as an emergency, so I won't go to the hospital. I think I'll wrap it in a band-aid for now, but I'll have to be careful so as not to get any glue on the fingernail...otherwise when I try to take it off, the nail will come with the band-aid Any advice would be appreciated, thanks
  14. And I thought I was flexible...
  15. Martial_Artist I think Sai is right...it sounds like you have a nest in there. Pull your bed out from the wall, arm yourself with some bug killer...although I'd personally be too freaked out to do it myself.
  16. I'm going to close this thread in favor of the other one. You can continue all discussion over there.
  17. Happy Independence Day!! http://www.spacespider.net/emo/friends.gif And don't forget our troops overseas! http://www.spacespider.net/emo/usa.gif
  18. The Sims is an awesome game, especially with the expansion packs. Very fun to play. A lot of console games are published for PCs as well. The Final Fantasy series, for example, is on PC (at least after 7).
  19. I've had popping occur in my hip joints, but never with a nerve, and certainly not under the shin. Are you rotating your ankle at all when this happens? I agree with you though, you should see a doctor...I've never heard anything like that before.
  20. Good article! Very informative. What a great way to expand upon every time Sensei has said: "Relax!", "Don't think about it so much", "It has to be instinct!", and most importantly: "Use your nervousness!"
  21. I got kicked in the right eyeball with somebody's heel. I had terrible double vision for a few weeks (had to wear an eyepatch...yeah they called me Cap'n Tammy). My orbital bone (what your eyeball rests on) was fractured, and the fracture was trapping some eye muscle in the bone. As a result, my right eye couldn't look as far up as my left eye, and double vision occured. My double vision has since healed up for the most part although I still have it to some extent. When I'm tired it gets worse, I get migraines now (where it feels like there's a marble behind my eye), and I have to be careful when I get sick or have a sinus infection because it puts a lot of pressure on my eye. One good thing that came out of all of this: whilst getting my eye checked, the opthamologist determined that I'm at risk for diabetes. I'll probably have it later in life, but now I'll be prepared for it, instead of lapsing into a coma or something.
  22. Get plenty of sleep every night. I know it sounds simple, but it really is very important and makes a surprising difference. Try taking a "power nap" when you come home from work...just make sure you wake up! I've heard many good things about naps. Also, your diet plays a big part in your energy levels. Besides having a well-balanced diet, some emphasis on proteins and carbs should help support your activity levels. Most importantly: realize when enough is enough. During the summer months, it's all too easy to overload yourself with work, activities, chores, hanging out time, etc... Spread your activities out over the week or month, instead of having every day jam-packed. Use weekends to relax...your body and mind needs some recovery time, and weekends are the best time to do it. Also, decide on your priorities. If the lawn needs to be mowed, do you pay the neighborhood teenager to do it, or do the $10 really mean that much to you?
  23. OK first off, what are the stats on this comp, and how much did you pay?
  24. Let's see...I'm a high school student. Not my choice, but it's really not too bad. My dream job is to be a successful singer/songwriter. I don't really care about fame, I just want to be making enough money so that it's my one and only job. I just love music. Sure, being famous and having concerts would be great...I just want people to hear my music and like it, and I don't want to have to work a part-time job on the side.
