  1. I believe this topic has been discussed several times before, but it also breaks our Comparative Styles guidelines. Sorry.
  2. You might be able to contact someone at AOL. They don't want their members to be harrassed, and might be able to do something about it. Write down his SN and see where you get with AOL. Who knows what kind of results you'll get, though...there are so many jerks on AIM that their staff could have their hands full. That doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a shot, though.
  3. I'm the same as Laurie...for the past three years, nearly all of my injuries came from the dojo: Bad hips, broken finger, arthritic toe, broken orbital bone, twisted ankle, etc... Must be due to all that "weak" Tae Kwon Do sparring we did...
  4. I like classic disco music, in limited quantities
  5. I had a nightmare once about a tornado (which isn't that strange; I have frequent nightmares about tornados), where this old redneck pulled out his shotgun and started screaming and shooting at the tornado, trying to kill it.
  6. Tom Brokaw called it "Hurricane Israel" several times on the news. At least, that's what mom says...
  7. There's nothing wrong with being attracted to someone older than you. Except if you're 12 years old, falling in love with a 40-year-old, and you act on those feelings. In which case, it's illegal. So don't. I loved gigapets!! I had (actually, still have...the batteries are just dead) a monkey and a frog...I remember how they kept dying at first, until I figured things out.
  8. Oh be quiet.
  9. I live in Pennsylvania, and we've been in the hurricane since 8 p.m. last night. It hasn't been too bad...fairly strong winds (30 to 40 mph) and sheeting rain. A lot of our local schools freaked out yesterday and closed at noon...except for mine, of course. I go to a boarding school, and they don't close for bad weather because 70% of their students live there and can walk to classes. For the 30% of students that commute (which includes me), it kind of presents a problem Well, I'll be off to school pretty soon...hopefully my heavy backpack will keep me from blowing away!! Are you in its path? Has it hit you yet? How has it affected you? I hear that about a million people in Virginia are out of power!
  10. I think martial arts can help you be a better Christian... the patience and self-discipline that you gain will help you through hard times, and keep you from doing something you might regret. Also, your knowledge of MA can help you help others in the community! I always thought it would be seriously cool to take a group of self-defense instructors to a few shelters for battered women, and teach a few classes. I'm sure there are other examples that I can't think of right now. Just a reminder: let's keep it friendly in here. You can present opposing points of view, just keep it respectful and civilized. If you expect everyone to be open-minded to your point of view, you must be open-minded to theirs!
  11. OK guys, let's get off the subject of video games/anime/geekiness debates. I think it's time for someone to list a new fetish
  12. Every time the kid acts up, warn him to be good. If he still isn't, play a fun game at the end of class for the kids who were good...a game that you know he enjoys. Then, don't let him play. Tell him that if he had been good, he would get to play. After a few nights of rewarding the good kids (you'll want to mix it up, not just the same game every night), he'll come around, hopefully. Make sure that when he does, you allow him to join in on the game! You may want to talk to his parents before you do this...some parents tend to freak out if their child gets special treatment, even if they deserve it. I say "some parents" because I know a few who understood that their children were monsters, and didn't mind the discipline. If all else fails, remember that kids need to have good attitudes before they can be promoted to the next belt. Above all, make sure you stay patient with him. It doesn't look good for you if you start screaming at the kid, or disciplining him out of anger. Discipline with love
  13. Flashy kicks are pretty cool, but the coolest kick I've ever done (and I still think this is pretty cool) is when I'm standing close enough to my opponent to touch our noses together. From there, I throw an outside crescent kick that smacks the side of his helmet. *sigh* ... I miss the looks on their faces
  14. Heh...I always got my colds from the dojo. I taught six days a week, three hours a night, for the better part of two years. One November during these two years, I got four seperate colds over the space of the month. But that's just because my immune system is crap.
  15. It sounds like you're hyperextending your elbow, which isn't too comfy-feeling! My suggestion is that you avoid fully extending your arm when you punch. You should never fully extend any technique, because you run the risk of hyperextending your joints.
  16. As if getting pictures taken weren't already bad enough!!
  17. OK, remember, this is the fetish thread, not pet peeves
  18. Because I always win. just kidding... It was just a joke.
  19. On my second or third play-through of FF8, I was working on getting everyone's stats up to 255, but I got impatient. What's wrong with final fantasy, sano?
  20. I can't stand it when people whine and complain about waiting in line, when they really have nothing better to do, nowhere else to be. Like when we had our school pictures this year...our next school appointment wasn't for 3 hours, and we had been waiting about ten minutes. One girl complained for about half an hour about how long it was taking, and tried to figure out if the other lines were moving faster, and blah blah blah. Eventually, our entire line asked her if it really mattered. She finally quieted down for a little while.
  21. I love neopets...too bad I don't have much time for them anymore. Did you know they're coming out with a neopets board game? I'm almost tempted to get it Not sure if these qualify as fetishes, but here goes: My hair has to be tucked behind my ears...I hate having it come un-tucked. I crack a lot of my joints which grosses some people out. Sorry, I try to do it in private. If I'm feeling happy, I HAVE to hum or sing. I just have to...otherwise, I explode, and you don't want to see that. It's happened three times already. It isn't pretty. When I play video games, I'm obsessed with stat building. All my materia must be mastered!! (FF fans know what I'm talking about) MA fetishes: Belt ends have to be EXACTLY even. When I was teaching, I checked my watch every two minutes, because I have no sense of time when I'm in my "teaching element". I'm really not much of an obsessive person. No, really.
  22. John Ritter died on the same day. Not a good day to be named John. They were both very talented men and will be greatly missed.
  23. Well, I just started at a new high school...I'm an 11th grader and everyone thinks I'm a freshman, so... .... .... .... I win.
  24. It's unfortunate that so many scammers have exploited TKD's popularity for their own purposes. Now, it seems like TKD dojangs will have to be approached--just like everything else these days--with caution and suspicion. Guilty until proven innocent, I guess you could say. It's such a shame, but I guess it would be pretty foolish to think that our art is immune to the evils of the world.
  25. Tell that to the incredible gentleman who sits at my table at lunch in school. We eat family-style dinners at my school (you serve food onto your plate from the table's serving dishes), and this guy REFUSES to dish food onto his plate until the dish has been passed around to every female at the table. He also refuses to allow any of the girls to get up and refill a water jug or food dish. It took a little getting used to, but trust me...all of us girls LOVE him for it
