  1. That depends on you. If you can see well enough to train without them, then go for it.
  2. Maybe I can answer that for you as far as western kickboxing. It is usually called American Kickboxing.I used to train in it, it was actually the first fighting style I have ever trained in. UNlike MT, IN American kickboxing elbow and knee strikes are illigal, also there are no kicks allowed beneath the belt so leg kicks are out. In competition, you have to land a minimum of 8 legal kicks that actually make contact or you are penalized points. If I remember correctly in FFKA a successful front foot sweep counted as a kick. Those were the only techniques under the belt that were allowed. Not sure about ISKA. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It went great with Moo Duk Kwan which I was started studying around the same time period. It's not as hard on your body as MT also. Unforunately for me at the time there were no places that taught MT in my area.
  3. She's Hot, I also love Renee O'Conner Both are them are a pair of hotties, although the show itself I don't care much for, Just way too far fetched and unrealistic for my taste.
  4. I ahve been a tea drinker since as long as I cna remember, even as a little kid, mostly black tea back then. I like Boston Mint tea as well. My better half, being Welsh used to bring me Tea from over there when she would visit before she moved here. The Chinese tea is good as well. When not drinking hot tea, I drink turkey hill diet green tea.
  5. Turn the question around. Does getting drunk once a month actually have any benefits?
  6. Whats wrong with sparrign against another style? There is always that chance that ina self defense situation some just might have been trained in or is using another style.
  7. Why are you trying to take the keys anyway? Is the driver drunk?
  8. How about since the car isn't moving, you open your door and get out? You should still be able to do that even with the keys in your hand.
  9. What you did was right, putting them in their place. And I agree, you go by the rules of the dojo you are at. Seems like these guys got a little to big for their britches.
  10. Lapel chokes and using pants and sleaves is definately not "wasting your time" as you put it. Imagine using a lapel choke against a man wearing a coat. Imagine how he is gonna feel with a coat with zippers (ouch). I train mostly with a gi, but usually about once a week we go no gi. I like them both, but sometimes prefer the gi for reasons stated about slipping and sliding all over each other when you are both slick with sweat. Also, where I live, people wear clothes so why not learn to use them as an advantage?
  11. I like the chokes. The most common one I use is the guillotine, I also like the rnc.
  12. Too much salt will cause you lots of health problems, not enough and a person can die. It's essential, salt. Yet we get more than adequate amounts of sodium from foods we eat. Yet so many people salt and salt and salt, increasing their likelihood of an assortment of heart probs, stroke, high blood pressure, etc. Eating very salty chips everyday is bad for you. Yes.
  13. I like my brain best but my chest second. Many hours of bench to get my chest
  14. I am from lancaster county. Hope you didn't think I was trying to be cocky with my answers. It's just that like martial arts, there are a lot of myths surrounding weightlifting and bodybuilding..
  15. I am not sure where u see the muscle division. However u asked a question on the board and i did my best to answer you and at the same time educate you on the realities of what u are asking. For good chest developement, u should try hitting the pecs from different angles using different exersizes. When u do dips for example, your pecs get a good workout because dips allow you agreater range of motion. When u do flys, you may notice you get soreness in your chest more than when you do bench. The reason is because with flys, you are isolating the pecs. and using only them pretty much. People think when you do "wide grip" bench that the "outer pecs" are getting abetter work out and they often site the unusual amount of soreness as "proof" they never stop to think that the wider your grip on the bar, the less the triceps are involved, and by default, the more of the pecs are involved. Did you ever wonder why most people's incline bech is less than their flat bench? It is because you are pushing weight at a 30'-45 degree angle. Something your chest and triceps often don't do normally, since muscles adapt they are more "used" to pushing up like a flat bech and not on a 35 degree angle. It's not becasue they would have weak "upper pecs"
  16. Thats because if you look at the abs, they are segmented. Not so with The pecs.
  17. You can work a muscle from different angles take for example dips. The will work your chest from a different angle than push ups. and Cable cross overs will work the pecs in a different way as well from say, bench presses, however, it is impossible to work different "sections" of the pecs, since the pecs are not in sections like say, the biceps which have a long head and short head or the triceps which have three different "sections" the pecs have no such sections or different areas. What he should do is go to https://www.bodybuilding.com and ask the question. They will tell him the same thing.
  18. There is no such thing as "inner" "outer" and "lower" pecs. Ever see a picture of the muscular system? The pecs are one big muscle, the pec is shaped a lot like a fan, it is not like the back, which has a lower ( spinal erectors) Middle abd outer like the lats and upper consisting of traps. That being said, everyone's body responds to certain exersizes differently. Some people like myself get most gains from bench while others get very little from bench and get most of their results from cable and dumbell flys.
  19. Some protein powders also have it added. The whey protein I have been taking also includes glutimine
  20. Well yeah, I thought of this as I was typing my response, however, even though a baton is great against multiples, I would have to think twice when it comes to being in a grappling situation. The bad guy can grab a baton and then the two of you are using strength vs. strength, especially if he has you mounted and has a hold of your baton, there is a good chance he can wrench it away from you and now beat you bloody with it. Not so with a knife, someone trying to grab the blade of your knife and he will lose some fingers. Pepper spray can be good but if you hit the guy with that when you are in clinch range and chances are you are gonna also give yourself a healthy dose of the stuff and now you are at a disadvantage as well. especially if there is more than one attacker, you may have disabled one, but now your eyesight is shot and how do you deal with the other?
  21. Well A guy I trained with in F.I.G.H.T. took it for like 3 years. he liked the Israeli stuff better but said systema was a pretty good system. I was thinking of going and taking a few classes to see what it was like, but its a good ways from me and haven't gotten the chance to see it first hand yet. At that school, they also teach Combat Sambo, which I would be more interested in.
  22. I prefer tactical folder. OC spray is ok, but what if you are jumped and are tangled up with a guy? Same kinda goes for the baton. Also a knife doubles as a tool. such as to cut through a seat belt, but the wrapper off your new CD, cut the steak at the local resturant when the cutlery they give you is inadequate..etc..
  23. Yeah I guess some people don't need them. Hey maybe if police officers would just become very proficient martial artists, they wouldn't need them either.
  24. As Yoda would say: "Do or do not, there is no try." I gave those nasty things up a long time ago. It is one habit i do not miss. You haven't quit because you don't want to quit bad enough. When you reach that point, if you reach it, then u will quit.
