"Rape Escape" system

Also, why not talk to your instructor, see if he or she can give you some private instruction on how to deal with possible sexual assaults. They should be able to do that. -
"Rape Escape" system
glockmeister replied to Spirit At Choice's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
https://www.fight2survive.com You may want to check out S.A.F.E. (self defense and fast escape) it is pretty much developed for women's self defense in street scenereo's -
That "boxing physique".
glockmeister replied to CQC's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Lifting will not only help you look better, it will also help you gain in speed and power. Hitting with a heavier glove is also a good idea. My gloves i use to spar with are 14 oz. my gloves I hit the heavy bag with are 16 oz. it helps build hand speed because when and if you ever have to fight you are fighting with no extra weight on your hands. Also I would both run and do bag work. I would definately not give up on bag work if I were you. I liek to do soem bag work as a warm up before I lift. gets the blood flowing and the heart rate up. As far as "Boxer's physiqe" I don't know what that is. I have seen boxer with so many different body types. From skinny and look like a strong wind would knock them over to people you would think are too fat to have much stamina, although these types soemtimes suprise the heck out of people when they actually start figthing. I don't think there is one body type exclusive to boxers. -
Both fish oil and flaxseed oil is good to help improve your joints. Also, just pay attention to getting thouroughly warmed up..as we get older, we need to spend more time warming up.

Oh, I am sure there are many that do. Basically what i am saying is that the impression I got is that back then alot more schools trained that way then as do today. Since the 70's Martial arts got more and more popular and unfortunately it has brought about many more schools that are what we would call McDojos.

I was checking out this movie the other night called Fighting Black Kings. It's about the first open world Karate tournament back in the 70's. Man it makes me think of how things have gone over the last several years. Watching this movie has opened my eyes to just how hard some of these guys trained. I compare that to a lot of dojos I see today. I was watching those Kyukoshin fighters train and they were really beating the tar out of each other. Also to get to black belt, a guy had to fight ten higher ranking students and beat them. Needless to say, this can get bloody Today we rarely see contact in the dojos anymore like they did back then and then they werent using anything but bare knuckles and bare feet. They also were showing some other styles that were competing. things like Kung Fu for example, but despite their grace and fascinating movements, they weren't any match for the raw power of Karate. Anyone else see this movie? It's from 1978. Definately soem good stuff.

Normally, I would say use some short, stiff jabs and some uppercuts when in close. I normally welcome closer in fighting myself since I tend to be a bit on the shorter side and most taller people can take me apart with their legs at longer ranges. However, if you use "no-contact" sparring, I am not sure what to say since if someone knows they are not going to get hit, they are harder to "fight off" since you aren't actually landing anything. I have never done no contact sparring so it's kind of a strange concept to me. I don't really see it's use.

If you don't mind me saying so, i think that shows a poor attitude to take when someone is just trying to help you. Perhaps she needs to work more on her attitude before CQC training. Someone who doesnt like someone more experienced than them trying to offer advise is someone who will probably have a hard time truly being open to learning up to their potential. No offense intended. -
Sorry to disagree with you sir, but you did in fact call it a "fake" art. I suggest you scroll up and see that aprticular part of your post that I quoted, I took it right from your post. I do agree with you that it is hard to find a good instructor. To the best of my knowledge, there are only 7 people in the united states cerified to teach it. Yes I understand what you were trying to say in regards to peple not learning it directly from Lee, however that's like me saying, I didnt train directly under Imi Lichenfield, therefore, I am not a real Krav maga practitioner.

I have alot of the same problem. Best thing I can advise is, go to a proffesional store that specializes in running shoes. They will have you get on a treadmill and see how you run to help decide what is the best type of running shoe for you. Inserts may or may not help. That's something you will have to esperiment with on your own. Also try running on soft ground and maybe change the way you run i.e., run more on ball of your foot, more heel/toe, etc....

I don't think it's a good idea for MA's to smoke, drink excessively, do drugs, etc.. However, I feel that it is just my opinion and I am nobody to say that it should be some kind of universal standard or something. I think, even though, when I walk into a Dojo and I see it's members hanging around outside smoking, that it doesn't look good, I have to be careful not to be too judgemental towards other people. What's next? Ma's Shouldn't cuss, shouldn't read playboy, Shouldn't Date the wrong people, Shouldn't eat pizza or other junk food? To some people, that's shows lack of self discipline as well. There is always something that each and every one of us does that could be looked down upon, so we shouldn't, as martial artists, be too quick to judge others so much as we need to pay attention to our own behaviors. Just my 0.02

Um, Yeah ok. Funny, The JKD instructor at my school Began JKD Starting when he became a member/student of JKDU in 1999, traveled later to the JKDU headquarters in Honolulu Hawaii and successfully completed the strenuous testing requirements and wwas promoted to JKD instructor. Also, he has had the Privalege to study and train with other notable JKD instructors, Au Duing, Mike Krivka, Matt Thorton, and origional Bruce Lee students, Larry Hartsell and Richard Bustillo...I suppose they are all "fakes" too.

Elbow Pain :-(
glockmeister replied to glockmeister's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I am not sure, I would tend to agree witht he hyperextending things becuase it only seems to hurt when I do focus mitts and not when I do work on the heavy bag. -
Lately, it seems whenever I do focus mitt work, I get terrible pain in my elbows and it often goes right up into my upper arm between my biceps and triceps. My training partner/sparring partner said I am probably hyper-extending my elbows when I punch. Thing is, I have done the mitts for years and havent notived this problem before. I wrap my hands and use gloves as well wehn I do mitt work. Anyone else have this problem or have any idea what to do about it? Thanks in advance.

well if you have no other options, then the DVD's may be your best choice then. They are well done and relatively easy to follow. Since you have MA experience, it may be helpful in working and drilling the various techniques presented there. It's better than nothing untill a certified instructor becomes available in your area. -
Two art dilema .....
glockmeister replied to karatekid1975's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You want opinions about what? Seems you have found an art you really like and obviously want to continue. I have also recently started BJJ and I love it. -

Sounds like your girlfriend doesent like a lot of things. Why exactly doesn't she like your sensai, your style, your friends there? Also, I forgot to add in my last post, you may wanna have her check out Judo as well. They have some devastating sweeps and throws that make it easy for a much smaller person to take out a much larger person. and also has some good chokes and submissions in case she would find herself on the ground..Just a thought. -

HaganaH is a great style for self defense. There is also a program they have called S.A.F.E. (an acronym for self defense and fast escape) which is designed mostly for women but can be used by either men or women. The DVD series is good and very easy to follow and well done, but I am not a huge fan of learnign just from DVD or VHS. They are designed to aid training but not to replace it. If it's the only thing available to you, then go for it. But I would suggest finding a good, qualified instructor as well. I can't speak for Defendo since I have never studied it. Seems liek people who travel across the country and do seminars. I don't know of any actual Defendo schools although maybe someone here does. -

Yeah I would definately go somewhere else. However all of the people who practice BJJ are not "angry skinhead guys whe like to fight for no reason. As you could see, BJJ even helped you in this situation with your instructor Not all instructors are pshyco. Shop around. Remember that a good martial artist has no probs with changing styles....Or schools.
