Same as belasko - just a expulsion of air forced from the diaphragm.

I'd agree its largely down to the practitioner; so long as you have a good school and instructor any art can be deadly, just a matter of application.

Issue with fellow kyu; advise sought
Sam replied to jay46's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Autism isnt just a social disorder disorder - it alters the perception of how you judge things, and does occur in the brian, - autistic people generally prefer inanimate objects to pets or people; and mostly [earlier on] struggle with imaginative play. In later life this "disrespectfulness" your talking about may well be just a result of a different world view: generally autistic people dont see the world in the smae way we do, and struggle with the general airs and graces [social politeness] that most of us understand. The butting in part does sound quite plausible as an result of the autism... as does the lining up part. Hope this helpts -
I know you're asking whether people want these, so sorry to go off topic with the first reply: just wondering what they are "training sound files"? I understand they're to help you train, but what are they recordings of?

How should I approach this?
Sam replied to TheArtOfBattle's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Id just follow up everyones advice - make sure whatever art it is, it has a good instructor running the school this will make all the difference to your training. -

My comment about 4 being impossible is with spacers.... obviously with spacers if 1 is possible so is 4..... I dont use spacers when doing multiple board breaks, but i mostly break with my feet, so im not too worried about impact damage to my joints. On a side note, we almost always break horizontally and not striking down on boards, on free standing supports [as mentioned]. Liam you borrowing that board? You broken it with any hand techniques yet?

Oh one other thing regarding the kicking pattern: Are you talking about one from MooDukwon? otherwise, in ITF patterns there is MoonMu.... thats got quite a few kicks '[high section slow motion, etc.]. sounds right? [if it is ill post or pm you the directions and pictures for it].

I always thought those 2 palm pressing blocks were in Joon Gun.... not Toi Gye. if we are talking about hte same ones, apparently they're meant ot be used to demonstrate control over the movement, and develop the correct hand transitions from starting position to final position and all places in between.

first tournament--any advice?
Sam replied to taekwondomom's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Just a quick note on ITF style sparring - the majority of points are usually scored through counter attack rather than offense Other than that, just get used to following through in sparring, nad keeping a flow of techniques goign if you do attack. -
congrats!!!

Did your attitude and ego change when you...
Sam replied to Kenpo man's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion

Dont think its a problem with kids getting black belths so long as they are physically competent. One thing if i were examing at a grading with a kid i would expect the same physical level of skill as i would from an adult; it may not be their fault as a kid that they cannot catch on as quick or "remember their forms as well" but in the same breath neither is it mine.... I believe that especially black belt is representative of a certain level of skill, and not just the amount of blood and sweat you put it or your attitude. I think ALL aspects are necessary, you should put all your effort in, but alsoyou should attain the physical skills necessary, and until you can for each belt level i would not award it. Okay i may sound really harsh, but oh well. I mean no offence , the above is just my opinion.

If it were impossible for them to pay then yes i would let them go free. but as grenadier points out its all about time (mcdonalds....etc are hiring). but sometimes things in peoples life coincide to create unexpected problems, in exceptional cases i would allow it. Other wise i agree with Grenadier who put it very eloquently.

Not from the US, but our terms are pretty similar in the UK so that was a really good read thanks!!!!

we have white yellow green blue red black.... nice and simple... has some philosophy behind it but oh well. I think the higher number ofbelts coming around recently in Dojangs isnt necessarily a bad thing (unless taken too far), it gives people targets to aim for in the short term rather than it will take you a year for your next belt when youve just started, most new students wouldnt really understand what they were aiming for (standard wise).

I always find it weird when people say they do 4 boards or 3 actually... we always use rebreakable ones, and i dont think it would be humanly possible to break 4 of the ones i practice on. I reckon if you were really REALLY good you could do 3 if you were lucky as well. for Liam since he knows me im talking about Mr Hills Red boards... We break board as free standing with no supports just in a horse which can fall over (a-frame base). So there's no resistance to the boards moving otehr than inertia.

I think it definitely depends on what you see you wnat to get form your MA training .... Terminology has lots of interpretations as to why we do it, surprising how a discussion about learning terminology can get so indepth.

omitting basics for advanced students !??
Sam replied to y2_sub's topic in Instructors and School Owners
This is actually what i was trying to say - explanation by analogy doesnt really work when explaining to others as they all have their own analogies, and also they tend to fall apart when you take them to far. Not trying to make this into an arguement, so im not going to post on this thread after this as ive said what i feel about the topic so anything else i add would be repetition. -
Waking up strung up by my stomach on fishhooks, then having iodine poured into the wound, while having my eyelidds removed with a blunt rusty screwdriver..... and hot blunt nails driven into the base of my feet, while someone files away at my achiles tendons with teh thin side of a nail file.... ouchies.

Still doubt the effectiveness of leg kicks?

My contribution: OW! -
I did basketball and that was pretty much it, but the footwork in that helped with sparring footwork (balls of feet) in tkd.

I pay £25 pounds a month which is around $45 i guess. I get as many sessions in my organisation as i can get to which amounts to about 8 a week - so 32 a month; so only costing me 78p a lesson ($1.50 ish).... only just worked that out.
