  1. Yeah the movement is just about control, sliding the foot out into a low stance from walking - then the pull forward to the l stance guarding block.... meant to make the flow of the pattern slightly more advanced.
  2. Yeah i agree with CapitalKarate on this, you wont get anything like the same from each.... boxing concentrates on one side and hands only.... muay thai does foot work mostly, different stances, different training methods. Youd get fitness benefits from both though and pretty damn good ones at that.
  3. Ah right - ninjanurse we do use something similar for the kids class - intermediate grades, we dont charge them or anything, just do spot tests every so often to check on syllabus progress.
  4. alright - thanks for clarifying it - maybe he's just plain rude.... since you've tried subtle confrontation (and as you say sometimes not so subtle), then maybe it is time to takl to your intructor.
  5. Ill keep looking for it - go through my history. He only takes the top off but practically faints...
  6. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am. I do not like green eggs and ham Sorry - had to be said Kicks
  7. That was REALLY REALLY difficult - sorry to skip past the debate... tried the 500 thing last night, didnt quite make it, lol, got to 410 and fell over.... couldnt quite walk that wll
  8. CYBERNINJA - worst MA film ever.... Houses of ninjas attacking each other [literally - hourses actually join in in the fight] Brought to your by namco..... http://www.badmovies.org/movies/cyberninja/index.html And fatal flying guillotine, and ninja squad killers invincible.... and that entire series actually... oh oh.... what about cyber tracker 2 - where the invincible robot gets beaten by a MAist.... and that other film i cant remember with the VR set that turns people into killing machines....
  9. Sisal rope is pretty similar isnt it? as far as coarseness goes?:
  10. Cool - theyre all fun. Im working on my flexibility mainly at the moment, but got a mental note to try all those... The only cardio i do regularly at the moment is 30 mins on the running machine. 5 mins @ 5mph 5 mins @ 6mph 5 mins @ 7mph 5 mins @ 8mph 5 mins @ 9mph 5 mins @ 10mph non stop.... cnat quite finish it yet.... only get up to half way though the 9 mph.
  11. Ive seen LOADS of Gi / Doboks. All plain colours, some combinations, mosto f the flags, some nice multicolour ones, a couple of CAMO [EVIL!!!!!] doboks, some ones that made the guy look like a bee.... I personally stick to plain 1 colour with a line down each side, it used to be black and red and now its grey and pink. If i do anything like tourneys or grading, or seminars, or anything official i always go in my whites. Other than that whatevers comfortable so long as its not decorative - we are all tehre to train and not make a fashion statement!!!
  12. Good luck with the recovery - hope its good and speedy! Keep us postedo on ur progress and enjoy the rest
  13. We only have Dan stripes.... not stripes in the colour grades [ well there are stripes but they go all teh way around the belt ]. And we have the dan stripes on both sides, but if you do have it only on one [which some of the older 4 / 5 dans do] its meant to be your right.
  14. Toughen body? 1.)as in to resists strikes? 2.)or not to hurt when u hit things? 1. - lots of threads on here bout that... generally involve either a board with sisal rope wrapped round it and hit that alot, or varying density of grains of something in a bowl. 2. - get a little bit of padding and get someone to kick you lots.... then take the padding off after a couple of weeks. there isnt much you can do to simulate [that i know of] someone attacking you without a partner to actually do it. Sorry cant help more, and sorry this post is a bit all over the place with the writing style im way too tired.
  15. Dammit - SaiFight - you got in there first. Anyone seen the one where they're doing the scissor sharpeners? and they guy takes his finger off?
  16. yeah seens those Mr. Mike - first one sword breaks onto a guy hitting it on a table, second one guy falls off ladder They both came from same network i believe [least according to ebaum]
  17. ummm..... Music - pretty much everything other than drum and bass [so prog rock, rock, metal, pop, blues, soul, hip hop, easy listening, rnb..... get the idea]. Fitness / Sports in general. And seeing my Girlfriend as much as physically possible.
  18. Kama...
  19. Im part of the BTC [british tkd council] which for a fee [not much, less than £25 a year] provids full insurance for you and accidents that may occur to or with you. £2,000,000 private indemnity £5,000,000 public indemnity These can be doubled for an increase in the fee [useful if you train in a busy Dojang with lots of students].
  20. Armstrong, definitely - what a cool guy.
  21. hehe.... funny shouldnt be such a problem, just let it play out.
  22. I guess when it comes down to it - if they ask to train for free, you say no - andthey say "fine im leaving" - thats not really a student you want. Id bend over backwards trying to help students who are willing to work hard, but for those slightly less enthused ones, ill only go as far as they listen.
  23. I wasnt saying it was a matter of ego - just that McBBs are less likely to be able to defend themselves, but may not realise.
  24. Hey everyone, just wanted to say travelling up to Cardiff this weekend for a competition, competing in Sparring and Forms - anyone else from this board going? [other than Liam]
  25. The upward hand is a reaction arm - since you arent strikin in the normal direction - and the reaciton opposes the general direction of the move the reaction in this case must go upwards [more info on this read Vol. 3 of The Encyclopedia of TKD - or i could just post up a long description of it - but that would be really off topic]. Kwang Gae's pressing blocks arent SLOW, they're not full speed but they're faster than in Joon Gun. Since you mentioned Kwang Gae - the reaction arm is the same theory as the reaction created in the doublel forearm block, low block combinations.
