Deby you just bought a smile to my face. I had forgotten how much I loved running in light rain, on the beach, or at night. I will have to relive some of those experiences.

Fast pace walking will probably put you in a fat burning mode at the time, but the metabolic boost is far less.
-
One reason people dislike running so much is that they're running incorrectly. You may want to take small paces thinking it will make you less tired, but using longer paces will get it over with much quicker and also does not drain energy that much faster. Also, make sure your breathing is even and deep, even when you feel like panting. Breathing evenly and deeply will reduce discomfort caused by your diaphragm being knocked about.

See if you can do this. Read each line aloud without making any mistakes. If you make a mistake you MUST start over or it won't work. This is this cat This is is cat This is how cat This is to cat This is keep cat This is a cat This is fool cat This is busy cat This is for cat This is forty cat This is seconds cat Now go back and read the THIRD word in each line from the top.

Perform a search for more information on stretching. The best time is when your muscles are already warmed, such as faster a lesson or warmup. If you would like a good flexibility routine, I'm sure myself or KickChick would be able to help you out.

I'm picking up the summer training. I absolutely hate running but I'm forcing myself to run several miles a day, even if I do pass out in the process. One method of burning fat which is more effective athan all long-duration cardio activities is Interval Training. This involves sprinting as fast as possible for twenty seconds, then having a ten second break. This is repeated eight times. You could use this or adapt it to another means of cardio like a stationary cycle, rowing machine, rope skipping, or any ergometer. It can be hard to get the same results from some things though, running is far superior. This Interval Training Works since while it may be so intense that it burns carbs for energy at the time, the metabolism rise stays all day to burn that fat.

I am not sure on the corrolation between orgasm and chi at all, but many professional fighters sexually abstain for several weeks or months before a fight for peak performance. I think this is both to mentally focus on the fight as hand, but also because orgasm can physically make you mentally and physically lethargic, unenergetic, and weak for a certain period afterwards. I know this applies to men, but as for how the female body reacts I am not sure.

Something must have happened because I recall myself, ogre, and Kickchick all posting response to this question. There is no such thing as 'spot reduction' - you cannot specifically lose fat from your stomach, or thighs, you lose it from the body as a whole. You can lose fat by cutting your daily caloric intake by approximately 300-500, and keeping your diet clean and high in protein. You should also use your treadmill for cardio first thing in the morning since this is a time that you havn't eaten in 8 or more hours, and so your glycogen levels in your muscles are low. This will allow your body to use it's next sources of energy, muscle and fat. Use your treadmill 5 days a week before breakfast(using it too much will learn your body to slow its metabolism somehow) and go for either 20 minutes at an intense pace, or 40 minutes at a low pace. Also do intervals, such as 30 seconds of sprinting followed by 30 seconds of jogging. Mix and match all of those to keep things interesting. So the keypoints in getting that visible six-pack you want are diet, cardio, and abdominal exercises - diet and cardio being the more important. Good luck (again).

Those who weight train. What is your regiment?
Jack replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in Health and Fitness
Behind you? Are we talking about a machine in which you pull it down and it ends up resting behind your neck? 1. Machines aren't as good as free weights 2. Behind the neck presses are asking for rotator cuff damage Try the pullups and the deadlift, they're a lot better for you, just make sure you get the form perfect and don't 'ego lift' - ie sacrifice form for more poundage. -
Hey nonpuritan, I'm also 5'9" and 140. Yes those weightlifting figures sound good.

nonpuritan, you need some backwork in there too. Try deadlifts, pullups, and barbell rows. -
Definitely take a week off to relax, a lack of motivation can be a result of overtraining. Use the time off to analyse your thoughts and feelings and find out why you are in a slump. The answer is within yourself, just look for it.

Training/fight tips
Jack replied to rgovoro's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Also another pointer to remember is that when you go to fight you often feel like there is a slim chance of winning. Remember, there are just two guys in that ring fighting and you are one of them. He is just as apprehensive as you are. Dominate him. -
"Warm beer. Do you really do this?" Why is American beer served cold? So you can tell the difference between it and urine. j/k. But yes the 'techno-rave' isn't so good, luckily we can still get access to good music here too!

What is this technique for?
Jack replied to coltmakai's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
It's called Chungdan Debbi Makki in our club, Chungdan being chest - just think of normal chest/middle section block, then think of the one with both arms (one arm supporting the blocking arm), now think of that with knifehands and the rear hand guarding the solar plexus. Wouldn't it be great if there was a uniform terminology for Taekwondo? -
Very interesting stories, and I'm with you both PacificShore and Sai on the difficulty and sheer exhaustion associated with a good grading. Would anybody else care to share some tales?

Our dojang is very similar, in that the instructor will ask us the line up. We also line up quickly and quietly. We stand in rows and columns facing the instructor, who stands in front of the class facing us. He will then say Charyut, and we all snap to attention, and then Kyungnyet, and we bow towards the instructor. Then he calls any other present black belts up to the front, then bows and stands in the corner as the black belts do another Charyut and Kyungnyet, and then we start our warmup. After the warmup, the black belts will bow out and return to standing in line, and the instructor takes over again. We have highest ranking members along the left row, with higher ranking going infront of lower ranking. At the end of the lesson we will be asked to line up again, and then he will give an overview of the lesson, ask the black belts to come up and give their comments or opinions, and then another charyut, kyungnyet, and 'have a nice weekend'.

Speed... Try Sprinting as fast as you can for 20 seconds, then resting for 10. Repeat this as many times as you can till you drop. Also, have a milk crate or something and stand to the side of it. Jump sideways over it to land on the other side. Jump back and repeat, do this quickly. Speed squats, perform a normal squat but on the upwards part of the movement go as fast as possible. Clap pushups, need I say more? Medicine balls work well for speed with abdominal exerciss. Flexibility... Do a search for flexibility and you will find loads. The basic premise is to do dynamic stretches first thing in the morning and during that day's warmup, and then do slow static stretching after your workouts. But again, do a search and you'll find more. Best of luck to you, PS. If you're tired of the Navy SEALs routine, try this one... do as many pushups as you can, as fast as you can, for 2 minutes. Rest a minute and repeat, a total of 4 sets.
