  1. Well, perhaps if you got in her guard... I wouldn't have a problem with it - student/student, or teacher/student - As long as it doesn't cause problems or distractions in learning and training. "Hey, how about we go and grab a coffee sometime, perhaps walk down to the beach for a bit, practice a bit of grappling..." how can it fail?
  2. *tumbleweed.* j/k One album that I absolutely love is Jimi Hendrix's "The Ultimate Experience", I don't think I need to say why. Also, Joe Satriani's "Flying in a blue dream" is a greatly enjoyable album. I am considering getting Veni Vidi Vicious by The Hives since I have heard some of their material and I enjoy that, as well as Tenacious D's self-titled album. I have some other albums, and I enjoy some of Deftones, Incubus, and Jimmy Eat World's albums, but the two I mentioned above are definitely the ones that stand out the most.
  3. This forum here is not simply to flame and say that xxx is better than yyy or whatever, when creating this forum we were hoping for a mature comparison of different arts so that we can all learn more about each other's styles.
  4. Welcome.
  5. Thanks very much for the reading. If anybody else has any other links to add to this, feel free!
  6. Hi, I was wondering if anybody had any links to websites detailing some of the theories, strategies, techniques or forms of various kung fu styles? I am interested in Kung Fu and would like to do start doing some serious research into the various styles, so any links would be welcome. Thanks.
  7. I'm no expert, I just remember BraveDave making a post about it. There is a lot of serious training going on there, and the camp is open every day from early morning to late at night. I do not know of any other camps though I am afraid. I suggest you do a search off of a search engine and get some serious research done.
  8. You should try and look for the Lanna Muay Thai Academyn in Thailand, http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3345&highlight=lanna Enjoy.
  9. Welcome. Out of interest, what is it like studying the Martial Arts in Okinawa, in comparison to how they are taught in the USA?
  10. You've made a good choice in returning to the Martial Arts. Welcome.
  11. Welcome to the forums.
  12. LOL, don't scare them off monkeygirl. Welcome to the forums, shabz.
  13. Weighted pushups. Get a backpack and put some form of weight in there, and perform pushups. Although technically that is using weights. Very slow calisthenics. On all your pushups, pullups, abdominal movements, etc. use a very long TUT (Time Under Tension) Take 4-10 seconds to go down, or up, on these movements and they'll be sure to hurt, and build muscle.
  14. Thanks for the link, shuriken_girl! But, crunches aren't useless if you have the form right. Infact, I designed myself a little workout revolved around them to perform once in a while and I did it this morning before breakfast. And trust me, it kills. That bicycle movement looks interesting, I've seen it mentioned on a fitness TV programme before - I'll add it into the next ab workout.
  15. That would be the added cardio benefit of a martial art burning fat, thus revealing the abdominal muscles underneath the previously-existing layer of fat.
  16. That was it Bitsearch. I am no authority here but I have heard the counter argument to that is that weight training will not cause damage to the growth plates, but will occur if the user tries to max out as Deby says, or uses improper form and causes an injury. You are safe to lift weights as long as you are careful, use proper form and safety guidelines, and progress sensibly. I am Bodybuilding at the age of 15, and we'll see how my height comes along in the coming years.
  17. I could sit in the corner looking pretty?
  18. Umm, what about that 200lb Kenpo guy nicknamed "Dragon Killer" who took out that 7 foot tall, 600lb Sumo Wrestler, in the UFC?
  19. Lol, I love those things. But if you're of frail mentality or weak heart, don't go on it.
  20. Oh yes, just got the soda to work. http://www.thevishal.com/quiz/dr_pepper.gif Well, whaddya know - I'm deep, emotional and complex, yet the most important question on my mind is, 'How do they get the caramel in those caramel bars?'
  21. 2 pounds a week.. I'm in agreement with Deby. Not only for the reasons she stated but also because losing much more will risk losing muscle mass, which martial artists should aim to keep. And yes Hiya, you have to eat clean too.
  22. http://quiz.sereine.net/img/aim.gif probably the most popular instant messenger out there. The bad thing is that you're run by a bunch of corporate *, but what isn't nowadays? http://quiz.sereine.net/img/caramilk.gif "You're Caramilk!" Just stuffed full of surprises. No one ever knows what you're going to do next. The greatest mystery to you is, naturally, "how do they get the caramel in the Caramilk bars?" That Caramilk one knew me like I know my own hand! The third one didn't work for me..
  23. It is also a possibility that the sensei wants to give you advice on sparring and feels that a senior belt who is more liberal thinking may give you advice which in the sensei's mind is inferior advice to his own. Another long shot, but who knows?
  24. Hehe look in the sig, she's my age. jk
