Bridging and gates
dingyuan replied to Noob's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well for the "bridging" concept all I know is that it is used a lot in Southern Chinese styles mainly Hung Gar and Choy Lee Fut, it seems to be some kind of curve you made by your arm while making a punch. ( Correct me if I am wrong I never study Southern style ". -
Why do you do martial arts?
dingyuan replied to jarrettmeyer's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I am going to be honest with all of you, I choose to learn martial art due to the influence of pop culture mainly video games and Kung Fu movies. The video game that has the most impact on me is "Vitura Fighters" and the character that influence me greatly is Akria Yuki. When I first played that game I was totally overwhelmed by Akria's strong and straight forward fighting styles, those of you who had played Vitura Fighter will know that Akria doesn't have the most beautiful moves but his moves sure is effective. I started to look into his form of martial art and found out that it a Chinese martial art known as "Baji Quan". Then I searched all over google, looking for a Baji Quan school around my area and then I found it and that's how I started my martial art trainings. -

Do you consider Pro Wrestling a martial art?
dingyuan replied to dingyuan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You guys may have mistaken my question, what I was asking wasn't if WWE is real but rather do you consider those pro wrestling skills like body slam, powerbomb, German suplex......etc.... as a martial art skill. -
Nice informations P.A.L, thank you so much.

dingyuan replied to dingyuan's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Hmmm that's interesting I know very few teaches nowdays is teaching Pigua alone with Baji Quan (It should be traditionally). Take me for example I am still looking around for a good Pigua teacher to learn that as a must have add on to Baji Quan. -
So in a sense Goju Ryu is a more "complete" form of Karate compare to Shotokan?? P.A.L, what about your karate style the Shorin-ryu??

Do you consider Pro Wrestling a martial art?
dingyuan replied to dingyuan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Actually I do mean pro wrestling as those in WWE. The strikes of the pro wrestling are completely fake and useless but some of it's grappling moves are really useful and effective. Effective moves of pro wrestling (I think) - Closeline - German suplex - Normal Bodyslam - Powerbomb (if you are strong enough that is) - Russian leg swing - T-bone suplex Completely useless moves - Chokeslam - FU (c'mon as if he's going to let you hold him up there) - F-5 - Vertical suplex "Not sure" moves - Rock bottom / book end - Stunner - Tombstone What do you guys think?? -
"Baji Quan" 8 Extreme Fist
dingyuan replied to dingyuan's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Really? But as far as I know Baji and Bagua are two complete different once being forceful and violence (Baji) and the other is rounded and soft (Bagua). I would say there's a lot of Tai Chi elements in Bagua but not really Baji. Oh yeah it is also good to train Pigua alone with Bagua, these two palm styles mix up pretty well. -

I was told that the best Baji Quan add on is Pigua Zhang, just curious anybody here study Pigua Zhang? I heard that there are more females practicing that than males. -
Baji Quan vs Karate
dingyuan replied to dingyuan's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
"Bajiquan is a very practical and powerful style. It,s external appearance is rather simplistic while the usage of the internal body mechanics is quite sophisticated. Its notorious power is derived from the long, harsh and often unbearable training in the basic body usage. When fighting using this style, the practitioner would approach the opponent from a long range distance to body-to-body contact distance. During the time of the closing of the distance, the eight locations of the body are continuously employed in all the directions, and every technique becomes faster and more powerful than the previous. It's a very fierce and ruthless style. After the interception of the opponent's right punch, shortens the range while executing a punch, setting the opponent up for the primary technique, then enters the opponent's "outer gate", breaks the opponent's root, and executes the downward - scissoring force with the same attacking hand, This is a typical bajiquan strategy the power from the body is released in a way that does not require one to retract the attacking hand in order to issue the follow - up strike, thus enabling the same hand to issue multiple power releases in succession. The first punch could be used as a major strike as well as a set-up for the next. " -

"Baji Quan" 8 Extreme Fist
dingyuan replied to dingyuan's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
"Baji Quan, also known as the kaimen baji quan (open-door eight extremes boxing), is a very respected traditional Chinese boxing schools. The word "kaimen" ("opening the door") is used because the sense of technique is six methods of opening ("liu da kai" - "six big opennings"), intended for break down the defence ("the doors") of enemy. The word "Yueshan" refers to Yueshan temple of Jiaozuo county of Henan province (a place of origin attributed to this style). In the past, "bajiquan" was also known as "bazi quan" ("Fist of Targets"), "bazi quan" ("Fist of Hyerogliph `Eight'") and "bazi quan" (Rake fist). During the Qing dynasty, bajiquan was popular in Cang county of Hebei province and in the neighbouring counties of Yanshan, Nanpi and Ninqjin. Baji Quan is known for its forcefullness, simplicity and combative techniques. The eight extremes boxing is simple and plain, it consits of short and powerful techniques in both attack and defence. Elbows are often used in straightforward ways. The explosive powers generated are stimulated through breathing which is articulated by two sounds of "Heng" and "Ha". Powerful blows are delivered from elbows and shoulders in close combat agaisnt the opponent. " -
Karate v Boxing

It depends on who's the better martial artist. A better Karate fighter can defeat the boxer and a better boxer might come up on top. -
