  1. Why dont you read my posts before you comment them? I have written that Im doing all I can not to be attacked. That of cause includes staying away from the wrong places. But that doesnt mean it cant happen anyway. I would like to know a few examples on how to deal with those situations. And please give me something a little more detailed than just "Run away".
  2. "You are not going to take 10 on 1. Sorry. That's in the movies. To even consider it is foolish." I never said that I could do that. It was the opposite I said(well maybe with a weapon, maybe. But its still a foolish thought). I did say however that I could maybe defend against three. When I said weapon, I didnt mean a gun. I meant an Oriental weapon. Im doing all I can to avoid such a situation. But theres still no guaranty. Guns are luckily prohibited in my country. As are knives and such.
  3. "The slowness of the execution and the telegraphed movement makes it too easy to avoid or block. And yeah practicing tornado kicks in the air you can land on your feet, but if you get blocked, or actually have the luck of landing the kick, big chances are you land on your * since your rotating motion is stopped short. " It sounds to me like you are mistaking tornado for butterfly or something like that. Tornado is very easy to land, even when blocked. And if I was to use it in a fight, then I would hide it in a series. "Too slow, by the time you take the few steps to give yourselve momentum then complete the spin in the air your opponent probably won't be where he was once you started the motion (like I've seen a couple times happening in spars). Which also leads to point 2..." Like I said. Its difficult to time right. "In theory, circular movement do generate great power...when combined with rooting!" Why are you saying "In Theory"? Its not theory.
  4. I've no input of any real value to this topic, but i found the discussion interesting and wanted to speak on this last post. I do think that you are wrong with saying "The most powerful and damaging movements I can do, is Flying sidekick and Tornado kick." Now, i may be thinking in different context as you. You may actually be saying something like "On my Nintendo game, The most powerful and damaging movements..." That may be true, but i guarentee that any kick with one foot on the ground is more effective than a kick with neither foot on the ground - unless the component only trains in jumping kicks without ever practicing ground kicks. And as far as Menthe's simple response, I agree. enough said. he didn't go into a lenghty discussion about why "no", but i got it. i think he meant it to be left open. Why in the world are you doubting word? When I say that my most powerful attack is that, then I mean it! I have tested it. Has this thread been posted to flame eachother? Lets stop the flaming.
  5. lol. I do study gun-fu. see bellow my belt. But it would be naive to think I can stand up against 10 or more, without atleast a weapon of some kind. The police kcan do nothing about it. Its been a problem for years. These imigrants just dont know how to behave.
  6. Maybe its just because its in Denmark, I dont know. It mostly starts like this: One of them(or three) sees me walking with my girlfriend. One of them shouts * or something like that, and then the guy with the girl, are most of the time surposed to act to that. If I say something to them they come over to try and beat me, If I dont react, they follow os, and probably tries to beats me anyway. One of them calls on their bigger "cussins"(Very big cussins). And then the beating starts. And if I somehow manages to defend mylady and myself, then I will have about ten or more tryieng to find me.
  7. "Zhong Gau" I dont think you understood what I said. I said that acrobatic movements CAN be used effective. I didnt say that its better than doing the normal attacks. And I dont say that the normal attacks are better either. It depends on the situation.
  8. This type of post has probably been made many times, but Im making one now because of my problem, and think its a nice topic. Its about writing all the problems you will get being in a streetfight, and then hopefully someone will write back with the answer, thought or something else. Where I come from we have a big problem with violent immigrants. They think very highly of honour, yet somehow they think its honourable to be 10 against 1. And beat the nothing out of the poor soul when hes down. I dont see how Im gonna defend my girlfriend, myself or my friends against this type. IF I manage to beat three of them, IF. Then I will have 10 against me, in no-time. And I dont carry a Nunchachu with me. I will normally not give in unleas I have no alternative, But I dont want my girlfriend to think Im a coward(or my friends). A classical dilemma.
  9. Okay, first of all...Im no kid. I dont care if he wants to pic a fight, or not. If hes going to correct me, then atleast tell me what I was wrong about. Do you think Im wrong with, acrobatic movements having power? The most powerful and damaging movements I can do, is Flying sidekick and Tornado kick. Flying sidekick isnt difficult to time effective, but Tornado kick is. But if you manage, he will most likely go down. If you dont think Im right about this then tell me why.
  10. a mistake, someone delete my reply.
  11. I would like to know what exactly you think is wrong about what I said? If you want to correct someone you should atleast say what, that person was wrong about.
  12. No. a little more specific?
  13. To get to the actual bottom, then they teach you the same as any other gung fu school, basically. Most Wu Shu fighters tent to fight very Fancy looking, but he/she will be able to fight in the same way as you. Some of the Acrobatic moves are very effective. Take Tornado kick. If you hit your opponent with it....Well then his down for sure. Most acrobatic moves have more power than the normal movements, its just harder to time them right. About the sparring, I cant say for sure. It depends on the school I guess. Wu Shu is meant to be more based on fanciness than combat. No point in denying that. But you still learn the same movements. How to learn to use them properly in combat is up to you. I mean, You can always fight with your imaginable friend. Or ask if one from your school wish to sparr or something.
  14. My name has a little story....okay its not a story. I learned it from a polish girl, and it means "Your a fag"(and no no,,,IM not gay). I thought it sounded funny, and I knew that noone has ever thought about this name. Later I found out that I had misspelled it, and that its really spelled "Thippedalle"(or something). But I didnt think it had the same "Groove"( ), so I kept Dippedappe. And Ive been using it ever since. So you will always know if its me, if you see this name.
  15. I guess its like in music. Sometimes you just get in somekind of zone where your body is selfsustaining or something. If someone here finds out how to do this willingly...please tell me.
  16. Ofcause we use what we are taught. What is it you are being taught in martial arts??? Its how to kick, how to punch and how to parry. basically, to use your whole body as a weapon. Thats the whole idea with martial arts. You learn to do this to. Wrong. In my school we do sparring. And another thing...Sparring isnt "realistic scenarios". If its an organized fight, yes, then your right, but. Real selfdeffence situation in the streets, are NOT like sparring. Maybe if your opponent is a martial artist to, then maybe it will be like sparring, but what are the odds on that?. Here is where the idea of martial arts comes back. You learn to kick, punch and parry, and thats exactly what you do Do not make the mistake of thinking we use the series of movements we do when training a form(katas) in a real fight. Again, we learn forms so we can do the movements, and how they are used. When I fight Im not bound by my style. I just react, thats it. Its not like I for instance - Im standing in this position, so then I can do this kick, or this parry and then go to this punch - , No. I just react with what comes into my mind at that moment, if its from a style or not I just do it as a reflex. So I AM expressing myself. So you can maybe call me a JKD man then, or you can not, for all I care, but what I train is not Jeet Kune Do. I hope you dont take offense by this but. It seems to me that you think the best thing to do is JKD. I think you should begin to train a style so you both practice JKD and a MA style. Just to get a larger view at things, so you dont think JKD is the only realistic approach to fighting. Remember what Bruce Lee also said, I quote "So styles tend to not only separate man, with their own doctions and that doction becomes the Gospel Truth, that you cannot change". Thats exactly what JKD has become to you...The gospel truth...Get a bigger perspective on martial arts is all I can say.
  17. "What streetfights?" The reason why he began gung fu, was because of being beaten by a gang. I mean its also because of him getting into fights often, that he was sendt to the US. "He introduced fullcontact?" I have a movie about Lees life(no its not Dragon). Somewhere in it, it tells you that he introduced it to the western world. "nor was it all that impressive." Maybe not, but he did own the other guy. "Some have argued that Bruce was the first Chinese to teach occidentals. However, Jimmy Woo taught occidentals before Bruce, and there were many others prior to Jimmy." Didnt know that. "He never actually fourght any one" He never what!?!
  18. What about the streetfights, he was in? The battles on rooftops against other martial artist? The fight he had, when he introduced fullcontact sparring? And his jkd was all about what was most effecient in real fights.
  19. Thanks. Just hope I dont have to use it.
  20. Tell me why you dont think bruce lee whas a real world fighter.
  21. What a great idea. Mine is "freedommanden@hotmail.com". Write-you-later .
  22. In my school we have practiced knife attacks a few times. It always happens like....He set us to do a little series of techniques, then without we know of it, he fetch a soft rubber knife. Then when we are completely unprepared, he runs towards you and then tries to stab or cut you. After you have parried and countered it, you think hes moving on to the next one. But then he stabs again about five times or so in different places and ways, before moving on to the next. A mighty fine way to learn id say. I mostly use a downwards Parry to get it away. I cant seem to use any other techniques than that. What do you find most effective?
  23. I started because I saw many Jackie Chan movies then. I wanted to be just like him. It looked so cool and all that. Later I began to look up to Bruce Lee. I study it because its an art. All that with becoming a better fighter, is just a bonus that I dont really care about.
  24. Master Jules.....Sorry to hear that. Do you only do Japanese martial arts?
