martial arts in publi schools could it work?
MenteReligieuse replied to RDsynMBZ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Mixed Martial Arts, or "modern" martial arts if you wish. But MA aren't for anyone. Not necessarily be a good idea to to give fighting classes to kids with disorders (i.e. violent). Maybe feasible for senior years. Here in Quebec, we got CEGEPs, which is between highscool and college, my cegep gives TKD, jujitsu and defendo/self-defense classes.... -

Taken from http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/plymo.htm: What is great about pylometrics is that you get results fast!. In highschool I was in the basket ball team, being only 5'10 (which is small for basketball) I had a hard time jumping over bigger guys. I trained my jumps doing the "Drop Jumping" exercise (which is also described on that website) and after only a few mins there was a few inches of difference in my jumps (two, two and half maybe)!! Of course you need to train regularly for the results to become more "permanent", else you'll get back at where you started.

This might not be true, but I heard that the gov't didn't only promote wushu for it's touristic/international value to promote china, but also to dilute the effectiveness of martial art. The Chinese Communist Party ruling with an authoritarian nigh tyrannic hand, they wouldn't want to have a population able to fight back. I guess this is highly arguable.

You can find many sports that does ALL that, don't need to practice a dozen sports. One that comes to my head is basketball, I played it in my High school team and it demanded alot of speed bursts/change of directions, tactics, made you fit, worked your cardio (breath control? don't need to hold your breath in a fight, just breath deeply and regularly) and of course body control. Or even better, boxing But that still won't make you a martial artist/fighter or whatever. I suggest reading a book that explains the FUNDEMANTALS (basics) of combat and train them on a heavy bag, because without a teacher fundementals is all you can expect to learn to a decent level.

Practice speed? What is that? Unless you are learning a new move, you should practice at "real" speed. You use the moves you practice the most. Don't know your style but I guess you should concentrate on the basics until they become automatic, this should cover most situations, then proceed to learn alternate moves. You fight like you practice.

Ninpo
MenteReligieuse replied to MizuRyu's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I read from "The Grandmaster's Book of Ninja Training" by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi himself (grandmaster of the nine ninjutsu schools in Japan) that it is possible to turn invisible, paralyse your opponent or prevent strikes from the back using those ninpo tricks. Of course that is utter nonsense. I always figured these were just part of some ninja propaganda to strike fear in their enemies. -
I would like to point out there is a difference between "meditation" and "relaxation". Meditation can be relaxing, but can also do energise you.
