I just thought the simple "Yes" was kind of funny, that's all.

Great reply, Tae. LOL. I dunno, but that was maybe just a little too much detail into your training. I had a hard time reading all of it.

Hey, send your gf's over to Arizona, I'll take care of em.

Shadow sparring is different than contact sparring. In shadow sparring you are only using your partner as a reference to target where you would actually try to hit a person and how you would defend against a person, there is NO contact made. If a person is supposed to be shadow sparring but is making contact, then he isn't doing the proper drill.

Get wooden training weapons. You can still get the same training with these and it's safer.

Russia has Sambo and R.O.S.S. Sambo is a grappling style that tries to compete against BJJ. R.O.S.S is another new "self-defense system 100% scientific" type of deal.

Kung Fu styles..
thaiboxerken replied to jer's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Every martial art has to evolve. Mixing of other systems will occur and always has. Many times when I'm teaching, I'm not even sure which system I'm teaching out of anymore. It really doesn't matter as long as your students benefit and you are teaching good stuff. -
I'm a heavy metal fan and hard rock alternative. Korn rocks!! This kind of music in the background while training raises the intensity of class.

I dunno if anyone wants to see Angus' ugly mug on here. hehhe.

Who here trains in this weapon? It's a very nasty weapon for a person that knows how to use it well. A practitioner can hide the weapon in a closed position, open it, make the cut and close it before anyone knows what happened. There are guys that can toss the balisong into the air and catch it in an open position. Anyone here with a good proficiency with this weapon?

countering roundhouse kick to ribs
thaiboxerken replied to DIABLO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Here is a good one. Step in 45-degree angle away from kick, grab the kick and cut the other leg with a kick of your own. From there, knee the thigh of your opponents leg with your left knee, send a knee into his gut with the right knee, give him a left-right elbow combination and end it with a right thai kick. You can get really creative after the first step of the combo and do take downs, throws, punches, knees.. locks or whatever. Make sure you grab that leg and hold it high or you'll end up getting a knee to the face. -
Yea.. but a real fight isn't shadow sparring either, is it Lori? Remember, shadow sparring is a training method to get you to warm up and learn to flow a little better. It's not a competition or fight, so that guy needs to chill out and keep his distance. Everyone should be able to train with anyone else with the shadow sparring method.. black belts with white belts, huge people with the smallest.

Maybe the fault isn't in the students, but in the instructor? You created your own "style" that maybe works for you, but it could be very hard for an average person to learn. Look into yourself before looking at your students for fault. -
Olympics In China
thaiboxerken replied to MuayTB1's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
China will probably try to get San Shou into the olympics. I'd much rather see Muay Thai, but I doubt that the elbows and knee techinques would be allowed in an Olympic sport. -
Speed and strength and various training, and I'm off...

New Jet Li Movie!!!
thaiboxerken replied to Kickbutt's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Enter the dragon was an awesome movie. I think a movie that had pretty realistic fighting sequences was Rapid Fire. Maybe I just like it, because I fight in the same "style" as Brandon Lee did. -
Where Taesjutsu, I wanna see her picture too!

Competing in the ring is hard on your body, yes. The actual training of Muay Thai is more of a work out than punishment. Guro Inosanto still trains in Muay Thai and he's 65 years old. Master Chai is over 50. They still can kick pads with the rest of us and kick hard. The "Muay Thai is only for the young" is just a myth made by other martial artists that are ignorant of the training.

Sport Tae Kwon Do
thaiboxerken replied to Angus's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Not olympic TKD as it stands. Olympic TKD specialists don't seem to deal with punches to the face, grappling, kicks to the legs or anything outside of the "strike zone" that are the rules of TKD. I've sparred with olympic TKD fighters and all I did to beat the was to give them a bear-hug and they were stunned, frozen and didn't know what to do. How is this a good self-defense method if they can't deal with the most basic of grappling, which comes natural in most fights? It's a very limiting sport that definitely needs cross-training outside of the sport to be effective in the streets. -
Hey, does the size of a man's hat reflect on any anatomical features? If so, I'll just wear a beanie.
