But arguing about which art is better is fun!! It's extremely fun when someone takes it serious too. -
I like the Essence of Emeril. He has a great cooking show!

My wife just turned 22 last friday! We had a blast. Oh, don't tell Kickbutt I'm married, it might ruin my chances with her.

Can you kick his butt? I beat my brother up all the time, but he's not very tough either.

Some people in here take martial arts so serious that they don't have fun. It's these type of people that make it hard for anyone else to have fun training. Take it easy! sheesh. Here is a good way to defend against the uppercut.. slam down on the fist with the point of your elbow as it comes up, he probably won't throw too many more uppercuts after that. I call this an elbow destruction, it's mainly taught in the filipinno systems.

Competition is a great way to test yourself in a safe environment. Sometimes competition becomes the soul purpose of training though, and that tends to take away from the effectiveness of an art from a self-defense point of view. I think the less rules in a competition, the more valueable it is and at the same time, there needs to be safety standards set so you can keep training after the match. -

Uhm.. sparring is just another training method. I feel having beginners spar can be very detrimental to their training. Beginners don't tend to learn anything when sparring except who can whoop who's butt. Do some application drills before getting them to spar. Have them hit heavy bags and pads. Have them feed each other attacks and defenses. Build them up to sparring with control. You'll find that they'll learn faster and you won't have as many injuries to deal with. -
I have never experienced such things myself, and when I'm around, these things don't seem to ever happen. I've had people try "chi" tricks on me and it doesn't work. Maybe because I don't believe in it. If I make you close your eyes and tell you that I have a knife and you really believe it, I can actually draw a cut across your arm by just sliding a piece of paper across it. This is the power of belief. His hand wasn't 800C, you only thought it was. His hand wasn't 0C, you only believed it was. This is how I feel about such things until someone proves Ki or Chi to me.

Probably trying to instill the technique into your muscle memory while at the same time teaching you to relax so you can be quick with the movements. Being stiff and rigid in form only makes you slower.

There is a martial arts place that my friend just started teaching Muay Thai at. They teach Kobudo. It is extremely similar to the philipinno techniques with weapons, they just put it in Kata form and are very rigid with it. Oh well, some people like the boot-camp type of feel.

It was me, I invented it, not short-dog. I'm the MASTER!! HAI YAHH!!! I'm 54-degree black-belt in it. -
Dunno, i could do it, but sometimes my opinions are too harsh for other people to swallow.
