  1. Hey, we should all throw away all of our martial arts knowledge. It has been a fallacy. SCARS people have told me that everything martial artists do don't work. They say that their techniques cannot be countered and they cannot be defeated, so I'm gonna go train in SCARS, they have ALL the answers.
  2. Ram Muay and Wai Kru are prayers and ritualistic dances performed by Thai fighters before each fight. If you've seen "Kickboxer" the movie, it is the dance that Tong Po does before his fights. The Ram Muay and Wai Kru are the only accurate reference to Muay Thai in the movie, BTW, none of the techniques used in fighting of that movie are Muay Thai.
  3. " There are three things that a seriuos martial artist should consider when choosing a weapon that suits them. " Do you mean that these were elements that used to be considered? I think many of these things don't apply to modern society since most people don't want to carry spears and swords around with them. Good info though. Culture, terrain and many other factors have molded the design of many weapons and martial art strategy.
  4. ok.. We are teaching firearms in Kali also. It is great for knowing, but probably not my choice in self defense.
  5. What?! You are kidding right? This is not a Bruce Lee movie.
  6. The spinning kicks are awesome to show off after you have won the fight. Doing them during a fight is a high risk and puts you in danger of too many possible consequences. It's an easy way to multiply force and an easy way to fall on your butt too.
  7. I tihnk it should be up to the fighter. Some people may look at it as a religious dance and may not want to because of that. The Ram Muay should be taught so that a person can make that choice themselves and know the history and traditions of Muay Thai.
  8. The thing is, we are in the USA where anyone can claim to be whatever in the martial arts world without consequence. In other countries, if you claim to be a 'master' or whatever, you better be ready to prove it because people will come to challenge you on it. The price of a non-violent civilization is this.
  9. Hey, that guy sounds cool. Send him my way, I'll show him some cool stuff to impress him.
  10. Ok.. here is a link to my yahoo photo album. Check it out! http://briefcase.yahoo.com/muaythaiman
  11. If the short guy has a "+5" buckler, I think he would win. LOL.. You forgot weights and fighting style, Patrick that makes a huge difference.
  12. Yea, but tag is tag.. I'd rather watch something that more closely resembles a fight and is continuous. Hope your buddy keeps his hands up the next time.
  13. I had heard that the WTF teaches the watered down sport version of TKD and that the ITF teaches the "real" combat version. I will bet that the WTF people will argue this, but I do see alot of WTF people that can't fight anywhere except in TKD tournaments.
  14. Fat guys, lol. I'm short and heavy, but not fat at all. 5'2" and 180# makes me roll through people like a cannonball. Fat guys tend to gas-out way to quick. Size DOES matter, it doesn't matter how good your technique is size will determine how you will defeat that person. "If you are good enough" is a key factor to how much size matters. The bigger they are, they more skillful you better be.
  15. I dunno what the big deal with black belt is anyway. I'm never impressed when someone tells me that they are a black belt, or a master because I've found that more often than not, that they are frauds or didn't actually earn the status. People are buying black belts from federations, others are just promoting themselves. It doesn't matter because the majority of the public are ignorant anyway. I could probably open up a school of Muay Thai, call myself a 5th degree black belt (even though there are no belts in Muay Thai) and probably draw in alot of business. The general public has no idea of what martial arts is, and they really don't care to think about things and question it, they want to be spoon-fed techniques. This is why you see people doing the BS that is being taught out there, they don't want to think about it, they just want to be told that "this is what works" when it may not. The McDojo's don't care about the safety of their students in self-defense, they just want to make a quick buck.
  16. That's pretty much the same view that I have.
  17. I think I'll go pick a fight just to get experience, wutcha think?
  18. Why break a bat? Why break boards? I have seen a person break 3 bats tied together this a Thai style kick.... he meditated (cried) for a few minutes because of the pain. I really, to this day, have no idea what the point of that demo was. I'm sure I can break 3 bats with my kick too, but I don't want to cry afterwards.
  19. Well, TKD isn't my choice of martial art at all. I'm sure there is a "real" form of TKD that teaches good self-defense, but with all the McTKD dojo's out there, it's extremely hard to tell what is good. I, for one, have yet to meet a TKD practioner that does the real stuff.
  20. Did he sign a liability waver? If so, kick him harder next time. Yea, then he'll understand. It funny how the "tough guys" turn out to be the biggest wimps, huh?
  21. I don't really snap my kicks, i crash through a person. But as soon as i make contact, I kick-off the person to get back to my fighting stance. If a person grabs my leg, well I just plant the knee of that leg into their face. It is hard for a person to grab a kick to the thigh though.
  22. Well.. first off, the internet probably isn't the best place to learn technique. Also, we did give him an answer before we started with the jokes. If you look at the joke, the answer is in there, "keep your chin down".
  23. The only person holding you back is yourself. Did I say that already? Anyway, limits are usually given to people from the inside. You can do whatever you want, you just have to go out and do it.
  24. WEll, you don't even have to be stronger than a person if you have great technique. Look at Royce Gracie in the UFC.. he was the smallest and wimpiest of all the fighters and yet he won. Size does matter, but technique can make up for it.
