  1. What is real Jujitsu? I'm looking for opinions on this topic from any martial artists. Jujitsu to me is the art of combat. Its techniques should be anything that would work in a real combat (selfdefense) situation and if that technique is not in a jujitsu program then it should be added. I am a firm believer that you need to train on all aspects of a fight to include kicks, strikes, locks/chokes, throws/takedowns, grappling. I think that the offensive aspects of these techniques should be trained as well as learning the defensive aspects. So shouldnt real Jujitsu include any and all techniques that could be used in a real combat (selfdefense) situation? Times have changed since the day of armor covered warriors on the battle field so shouldnt this art of combat change to fit todays real world. If we did not allow Jujitsu to change with the times dont you think we would be cheating its true meaning and nature? Once again this is only my opinion. But I would like to hear the opinion of others. Thank You
  2. I believe its all going to depend on the school. I know I teach my Jujitsu class now as a Mixed Art. I actually teach my kickboxing program to my C.T.E. Jujitsu students, this ensures that they are getting the striking and kicking training needed to make the program well rounded. Once again it all depends on the school and what they are teaching. Dont under estimate someone because of their styles name. Now days you are seeing alot of schools teaching with a Mixed Arts method to make their program well rounded. Just my opinion
  3. Once again this is only my opinion and I do not study ninjitsu Jujitsu was designed from Combat. Not for combat but from combat. Jujitsu should incorperate any and everything that works in combat. Ninjitsu also trains for combat just in a non conventional way. Let me use an up to date example. U.S. Army Infantry/Rangers train for convential warfare on the battle field to wear U.S. Army Special Forces train for uncovential methods. But both have to be trained in the basic combat tactics, and then specialized training takes place depending on the unit. So in Jujitsu and Ninjitsu you would find similar techniques since both were used for combat rather it be on the battlefield or on a special assignment. Because the basics of combat is the warriors foundation and basics are what works and whats going to save your life. Just my opinion
  4. This is just my opinion I am not a Judo player and I do not study BJJ. I have trained with those who study these two arts and Jujitsu is an art I do study and teach. I see Judo as a sport and it is, but I do believe it can be very useful in self defense situation, I do not enjoy being thrown by a Judo player and would not enjoy it at all if thrown on the street without matts. BJJ I see as an awsome Martial Art for the street and for Sport. This is a style that domintes the ground the techniques are amazing. Jujitsu,Jujutsu, jiu jitsu etc. (BJJ included) I dont see it as a style, I see it more as what works in Combat. I know there is hundreds of styles of Jujitsu out there and they are all different in different ways but most focus on Combat effective techniques. I believe that Jujitsu is training for pure combat self defense. So what I'm trying to say is any technique that is effective in Combat should be found in Jujitsu training and if it is not then it should be added and trained. Once again this is only my opinion. But when asked about martial arts those 3 names always come up!!! It just depends on what your looking for as an individual!!!!!
  5. I believe for the individual who is currently training or has a good amount of training in the combative arts can learn alot from outside training. I would never suggest anyone with no experience to try to learn from a video or a book. But those who already have been instructed from the basic to intermidiate level I think can learn a great deal. MORE WEAPONS TO ADD TO YOUR BASKET OF TRICKS!!!!!
  6. This is a great topic I have ejoyed reading everyones replys. These are the two programs I teach at my school. C.T.E. Kickboxing Goods: 1.,Focuses on strikes, kicks and some clinch fighting 2.,Great workout Lacking: 1.,Takedowns 2.,Grappling So I believe Kickboxing is wonderful but I admit it is incomplete C.T.E. Jujitsu of Mixed Arts Goods: 1.,Focuses on all aspects of a fight from stand up to grappling 2.,Freestyle type of training allows each individual to grow differently according to their abilitys and perferd methods Lacking: 1., More grappling is needed (this is currently being worked on) 2., I do not feel it lacks to much and I encoured any and all my students to speak up if they feel something might benifit the program Once again this was a great topic.
  7. I also can not decide which school is for you, but I will tell you that you need to figure out which shcool would benifit you the most. Remember Martial Arts is more about you as an individual rarley are you going to have your instructor or fellow students with you on the street if you get into a situation and RANK means nothing on the street. So keep that in mind and make sure you have fun with your training, as long as it stays fun you will stay motivated. GOOD LUCK
  8. I'm going to have to agree with some of the others here. You need to get out there and check out as many schools as possible. While watching or participating in these schools be sure to watch the students of the schools. Observe how they act, how they perform overall and remember not one individual is alike keep that in mind while observing the students, but this will give you an idea of the training environment. Find a school and style that you will enjoy, and remember a good intructor will work with you and all techniques from basic to advance. Find a school that looks at you as an individual. Mixed Martial Arts might be something you want to check into because normally these programs are not as strict as far as you have to do it this way and this is the only way. GOOD LUCK
