Yep, i sure do... We were a linked organisation of around 8 schools (well, 8 when i finished training with them, maybe more now, dunno). We were structured like a karate class with everyone starting at 10th Kyu: 10th white 9th white, yellow tip 8th yellow 7th yellow, blue tip 6th yellow, 2 blue tips 5th blue 4th blue. green tip 3rd green 2nd brown 1st brown, black tip Then obviously black belt. Our master was 5th Dan Goju Ryu, Certified Muay Thai Instructor, Won titles as a boxer, kickboxer, and ring karate fighter and had some rank in Aikido, i can't remember what it was... Hope that cleared things up... Rick

As a fighter, Mike Tyson is quite simply the most scary man i have ever seen... But what i consider makes him scarier is that he is a man with lethal training who has been convicted of both beating and raping women. Tyson's fighting ability is beyond dispute, in his prime he was unstoppable - but should someone like this even have been allowed to regain his fighting licence... Boxing is meant to be the "Sport of Gentlemen", i don't think Tyson has an ounce of chivalry in his entire body and quite siomply i hate him as a person... I still admire him as a boxer however... What are your thoughts on this? Rick

Hahaha So did u end up beating urself? Rick

Dodging
Rick replied to will56's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I agree with Jiyn, keep moving moving moving! Bob and weave and make a difficult target for your opponent... Try to draw out his lead so you can counter. For example, creep towards him and watch his lead hand (and his legs if applicable), you'll get a 'gut feeling' when the jab is coming, duck down, to the side, and toward your opponent and slip you own jab into his ribs... I knocked my mate chris on his backside with that move once... It's a ripper! Rick -
Left Jab
Rick replied to dratix's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
When doing power jabs: Your shoulder needs to be coming up to the side of your chin so u are looking straight over your knuckles and your arm needs to stay a LITTLE bit bent. Also when you throw an offensive jab u need to step forward with the front leg, the foot shoot hit the ground as your hand hits the target. If throwing a defensive jab then do the opposite, using your back foot, but remember not to drag you lead leg. Flicking jabs are less technical, just flick it out there and make it fast, but still step a little and bring ur shoulder up... REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BRING YOUR HAND BACK TO GUARD POSITION OR U WILL GET HIT. Rick -
Feints and Counter-attacks
Rick replied to SoonerJohn's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Well, there's a couple that i like.... Fake Jab - Cross, Hook &/or Uppercut Fake Jab Cross - Roundhouse/front kick/groin kick Fake Jab Cross Jab - Spinning back kick/Spinning heel kick Fake Jab - Side Kick For me it's mainly about faking the jab, and then eventually they won't suspect the real jab/backfist. Hahaha, i like you guys, u so funny! Rick

I always understood the concept of a master as someone who has perfected every intricate and intimate detail of a certain martial art (physical and mental) and then has attempted to further their martial art by means that they see fit eg: more schools, less schools, no junk students, quality control, continuation of tradition etc etc... I never really thought of ethnicity as an issue. Rick

Also, like in any weight training, you can do forced reps, but instead of having a training partner help u with the weights you do this... Do as many pushups as u can on your toes, and when the burn becomes too much for the proper push ups u then quickly change to doing pushups on your knees, and do as many as possible... then stop and have your rest before repeating. Hmmm, also another thing that a friend of mine, Josh, has tried once, or i think i remember him telling me he did it, was to put on the heaviest gloves he could find and actually tap himself around a bit, and even sometimes slug himself... I guess since he did it in a controlled manner instead of going psycho on himself he was able to judge how much he could put up with... I don't recommend this to everyone though, just for those who really want to toughen themselves up with that little extra oomph... Rick

Definately, keeping things well rounded is the key to keeping motivated... If u do the same thing over and over again, IMO, you become stagnant and you get bored of what u are doing... Lack of interest equals lack of motivation and lack of motivation just messes everything up for u... Rick

Well it didn't have any adverse effects... *eye twitches nervously* It helped me learn how to take a hit... In a way my old man was doing me a favour. Rick

Yeah i suppose the Green Hornet is better than the Green Power Ranger... Ah well... Rick

How/Should I get started?
Rick replied to ernienow's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Well, ur not too old dude... i started when i was 4 so i have a long history with it, but you are never EVER too old to begin... Just have a look at what u have going on around your area and choose something that appeals to u and what u want out of the martial arts... If u love it enough there will always be time for it... And if u REALLY can't find time for it u can always come back to it later when u find that u have more spare time for that sort of thing. I gotta go to work now, i'll see ya later. Rick -
Yeah, that's the way man... I used to be really agressive and go out and start fights and all that kinda stuff... but i'm a lot easier going these days and i only get motivated to train so i can protect. Rick
-
heh... hello to u to Rick
-
Man, action movies get u so motivated don't they! u just wanna go and be the good guy who gets the girl... Most action movies set a standard for how a good guy should be, and many young kids wanna be just like their favourite action hero... I still wanna be like the green power ranger... hahaha. Rick

Yeah what i've found is that thru all the different styles i've done i've just become a huge melting pot of moves and i always end up using the ones that work the best for me... Sometimes i do some moves in a different style than what i mean them but it all works out. Rick

I put down the first one, training several times a week at a dojo, but i think my home will have to count as my dojo - since i haven't found anywhere here that i enjoy training at i train myself, with some training buddies with MA experience. I lift weights and mainly box now. Rick

yeah, wushu is where i learnt most of my flashy kicks and all of that kind of stuff, but i wanted to experience more of the Korean style of kicks like i did when i was doping HapKiDo... And JeetKuneDo, dude, i'm pretty sure having no specific style makes u a mixed martial artist. I read Tao of JKD from cover to cover too, but i don't think Bruce wanted us all to become Philosophical drones with no true idea of what we are... He knew what he was, he was a mixed martial artist, always on the move with different styles, and he was proud of his early wingchun beginnings. Rick -

Sometimes I do what i call microwave warmups.... 20 push ups, 20 situps, 18 pushups, 18 sit ups etc until i reach 2.... that's a nice quick equipment free workout... and it keeps u fit. Rick

I try to work out every second day, and sometimes every day if the mood takes me... I usually do some weights and then some shadow boxing while playing metallica mp3's on my computer.... i hit the bag a fair bit too. Usually i just do pushups, curls, rows, military presses and some dips for my triceps for my weights routine. And mainly handwork when shadow boxing and hitting the bag. Nothing spectacular but it keeps me in shape. Rick

Heh, not only is he cheating people out of money, he is gonna get those people killed when they get angry and act violently towards "those three gangbangers approaching them while they strap their kid in their car"... Still, it's comedy gold. Rick
