  1. Perhaps u could tell them that u think the sensei doesn't like it when she talks all the way thru the class??? Maybe she'll appreciate that and keep quiet. I don't know, sorry mate. Rick
  2. That's why many martial artists who only spar with martial artists get a really shock when Angry Joe down at the bar has a go and takes a swing. That's why i also like mainly full contact or realistic sparring, because sparring with controlled movements makes us weaker... Rick
  3. Mmmm, yeah, it's definately more combat orientated than most martial arts out there... Rick
  4. Heh, i think i'd have a hard time arguing with u over that DM... Rick
  5. Mmm, i'd also like to know how much moneyu is being spent in buying these ranks... Rick
  6. Huh? Well, i guess my ego is still bruised P.A.L - but i really would like to see ANYONE defend themselves in that situation, i'd pay very good money to see it. I'm not quite sure what ur saying though - i just had memories of people saying they would throw punches in that situation and i never got a chance to, becuase i had a knicfe coming at me all i could do was grab it twist and turn, then fall and hold... If it has been just 3 guys without a knife it might have been a different story - but i doubt it. Anyway, let's get back to 47MM's question. Rick
  7. Yeah, that makes sense... Rick
  8. Hmmm.... Violent 3 on 1 conflict - reason being that 3 lads asked something of an old girlfriend of mine that i was not prepared to let them have while we were walking down the street together (obviously a couple at this time). Result: Me being hospitalised after a knife was pulled on me - grabbed the knife arm in a lock and unfortunately went to the ground where 2 of the 3 lads stomped my head. I'm only alive because my old girlfriend ran screaming for help and came back with 2 very large Pacific Islander dudes. 4 broken teeth, broken nose, fractured cheek, fractured eye socket, 1 cracked rib, and a badly bruised ego. I didn't get cut though... And i didn't even throw a punch - i'd like to see ANYONE defend themselves against something like that, cos i sure as hell couldn't. Rick
  9. Let me get back to u when i check my tyson dvd... Rick
  10. Aw man, i definately smell cheeseburgers here - oh man i'm so hungry.... Um, *ahem*, but anyway - it definately sounds like something's wrong there man, and if ur after serious training ur most definately not getting it.... Not everyone achieves the same things, that's right - but they have to have achieved something... I see a lot of people who don't deserve their ranks a lot of the time... The way i see it u have to know at least 90% of ur tested stuff proficiently, and to become a 1st dan (master of basics) u should know EVERYTHING UP TO BLACK BELT proficiently... Just my opinion... Man i've got the munchies. Rick
  11. Mmm, Tang Soo Do sounds like a very deadly kicking art that lacks a little in the hands department. I've never come across it but it sounds very interesting. I think it's the art that Chuck Norris started in isn't it? Anyway, it doesn't really matter what hand techniques u learn and in which style - it matters more that u practise and practise and practise until u are awesome with those particular moves. Good boxers are only good boxers becuase they constantly work the hands and become good with them, IMO anyway. Rick
  12. Hahaha, that's pretty funny gcav - i don't think i've ever heard anything like that before... Little Dragon, i almost went to Juvi once for fighting too - cos i'd go out and start fights n stuff, i wasn't a very nice person at all... I'm still not to a degree but i've met a lovely young lass who's trying to help me with that.... Rick
  13. Yep, once again i end up agreeing with SevenStar - it doesn't matter if u know the basics, u need an instructor to learn it properly and my advice would have been the same. Focus on the Tang Soo Do strikes that u have learned, at least u would have someone who knows how to do them properly always watching over ur shoulder, unlike the complexity of boxing that u might miss without an instructor there... Rick
  14. Yeah, it can most certainly get things pumping. And perhaps ur right, that it does become a bit too easy if u don't imagine that ur actually fighting someone... Rick
  15. Hmmm, i wouldn't mind knowing what some of those accounts were. Rick
  16. Yep, it's as valid as any other training method... Rick
  17. Heh, yeah, but i don't think it's REALLY impeding my ability to build muscle mass and burn calories... Rick
  18. Yeah, it's sad that so much destruction can happen in such a small amount of time... Rick
  19. Ahh, yeah good point too... I stand corrected. Rick
  20. Mmmmm, point taken DM - i think that the only way to practice JKD is to go about developing ur own JKD the way Bruce did - so in a sense me being a mixed martial artist and taking what i find to be useful would essentially class me as JKD man. Rick
  21. Well, yeah essentially u could see it as that.... Yeah pretty much... Some people just execute the techniques and bounce around without worrying about the imaginary person.... But yeah that's pretty much what it's about. Sort of like a random and adlibbed form of kata. Rick
  22. Heh, well, i'm not exactly a champion - but i think my breakfast usually gets me thru the day pretty well... I'm a bit of a freak for protein because i i'm trying to build more muscle mass (i'm already a big boy at 113kg or roughly 248lb) so i'm usually getting up and cooking myself 4 pieces of toast with around 5 or 6 eggs, which i then usually cover in tomato sauce or ketchup. I find it's the best for filling me in the morning and it keeps me going thru morning workouts with the weights. I usually either have milk or water with it. Not a HUUUGE fan of juice, but it's okay i guess... So what do u guys have for breakfast? Do u think mine is detrimental to my health in any way? (oh yeah, and i usually have a cigarette after breakfast, and i know that's not good for me) Rick
  23. Sure does, they can kick my butt when i'm doing something wrong - i've never seen anything wrong with a little constructive criticism... Rick
  24. Cool cool Rick
  25. Heh, the burn lets u know ur still alive? Rick
