  1. Yeah ur cool man, no worries. Zen Go Shu has no links cos it's not that big... Goju Kai is the Japanese version of the Okinawan Goju Ryu - it's pretty kata based... I guess u could google it. https://www.zendokai.com.au is for zendokai... it's sort of rare outside of Australia cos it was set up by the dude who pioneered ring kickboxing in Oz, Bob Jones. Rick
  2. Have to disagree on the sub-par opponents man - he was against some quality fighters in his time back in the 80's. He was fast, strong, and deadly... The problem is as u said, he has a pea sized bain, and thus can't distinguish between the ring and life. Rick
  3. I think it was that cool Master Jules on this forum who said that u have to resign urself to the fact that ur probably gonna get hurt if u chose to fight. So yeah, that's right 47MM, but u still have a good chance. Unless of course the guy is a Kali/Eskrima knife fighter - cos they'll cut u ten times before u even notice it. Rick
  4. Yep, that's obsolutely right 47MM... Rick
  5. Aw man, how embarassing would that have been for the bloke who learned it and thought it was the real deal when he was showing it off to some other guys... Rick
  6. Yeah, right on man. Rick
  7. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, Judo sound like the sort of things that u are after man. I wouldn't go aikido if i were u man, cos it's a softer martial art which mainly uses peaceful or LESS harmful methods of restraint. I'd recommend keeping up with the striking as well though, cos i think everyone needs to know how to punch. Rick
  8. Heh, yeah well obviously - but practising ur technique and gaining in fitness will help u when what u are boxing will fight back... Do u not agree? Rick
  9. Yeah u've got a good point Reklats - but u've also got to think about the heat of the moment. This guy is attacking u, u don't want to simply knock him down and walk away. U want to put him away - the adreniline in your body is saying "fight fight fight!!!!" like the kids used to chant in the school yard. U want to make sure that he is not gonna follow u home and do something to u. U just want them to go away and the only way that some people think that they can get the person away from then is to knock them out or incapacitate them... I'm sure that there are many different psychological theories for this kind of thing - one being the good old FIGHT OR FLIGHT response. And Mordanius, that's an extremely well noted quote - and how true. Attack ur friend with a permanent marker or paint brush and all ur thinking about is that u wanna draw on them... A very smart man was Bruce... I'm must circle that in my Tao of JKD. Rick
  10. cool cool - it really is quite a lot of fun. Rick
  11. I think that everyone has hit that sort of plateu before - i don't think u can participate in the martial arts without hitting some sort of wall from time to time. But IMO it is when we knock down those walls and fight to become that better person, and refuse to give in to stagnancy, that we really show our quality as a martial artist. I've hit many a plateu and smashed into many a wall in my time, even recently giving up for a year and then coming back with a vengeance, dissatisfied with what i had become without my beloved kickboxing. This is an extremely good article - i'm gonna read it again! Rick
  12. Not necessarily - i'm not sure of the politics behind it - but i think that the only way that we would be covered by insurance while sparring was if we used the full olympic style taekwondo armour. It sucked and it was sooooo hard to move in! Rick
  13. Sorry, just having a light poke... There's a bruce lee quote where he says the best belt is the one that holds ur pants up or something like that. Rick
  14. He wasn't calling u a degrader JKD, he was talking about Drunken Monkey... Come on boys, grow up, honestly... JKD might use a lot of Bruce Lee quotes and it might get tiresome sometimes, but each to their own right? Linda Lee Cadwell was in a docco saying that Wong Jack Man spent most of the fight retreating from Bruce and Bruce had to chase him down. Can someone clarify for me when he EVER called himself a wing chun master? Book, documentary? anything. Finally i heard that he died from a cerebral edema caused by adverse reactions to cannibis - which he had been taken to hospital for before. I thought he was taking his lady friend to a movie set or lunch or something. RIck
  15. In the end versatility is what's it's all about isn't it... Yeah i think so. Rick
  16. "sigh" yet another Bruce Lee quote. Nice article dude, i'll think of it next time i hit a plateu. Rick
  17. Yeah i think the fight has just gone out of him. I was watchin a DVD of old boxing fights just last night in fact and i was admiring his skill and finesse. But i think it's all but gone now... No more eye of the tiger. It's a shame when boxers keep on going when they know they've lost it, they should always go out at their peak. Or perhaps he doesn't know that he's lost it!? Rick
  18. yeah i agree with SevenStar - it's all about using the specific art to it's best advantage against the weaknesses of the other art. I've seen kickboxers beat grapplers and vice versa, although i've seen more of the vice versa than the aforementioned. Rick
  19. He who paints toilets not necerssarily a shiit house painter. Rick
  20. Hahaha, that's a funny joke man, i like it! Rick
  21. Hahaha, yeah, love the identical clone arguments. Man, Dan Inosanto is a fighting machine! Rick
  22. Yeah, i don't know all the details of the case - but i know he didn't do any prison time. Rick
  23. Martial arts were bred from battle, battle was a consequence of life in early humanity, over many battles certain techniques were discovered. It is also reputed that some kungfu masters watched the ways in which animals fought and imitated their moves/tactics (thus the monkey, snake and praying mantis styles for example). A man did not simply create them one day. Not everyone has the natural ability within them to learn to fight. Lee would teach people how HE did a side kick, "this is how i do it" and "this is another way of doing it" - "now that u have the basic idea u can make up your own mind how u would like to personalise it" - he didn't simply tell them to become one with their "inner side kick". Remember even the almighty Bruce had an instructor, Yip Man, in the Wing Chun kungfu system. He then pioneered his own form of crosstraining. Back on the subject, u really just have to look around man, if TKD is all u can get then try it, Bruce Lee would have trained in anything he could get his hands on - take in everything u can, and maybe later in life u will find the JKD within yourself or a place in which u can train in it. Rick
  24. I agree with everyone else here - just leave well enough alone... And yeah, road flares suck. Rick
