Using Chi to manipulate physiology
GhostlySykanRyu replied to KarateKid7's topic in Health and Fitness
LOL, sorry...forgot to check the thread. Hopefully I'll be able to find the magazine tomorrow -
I believe that ki can heal... It's an advanced part of Sykan and Danzan Ryu, and Okazaki's Seifukujutsu has proven it valid for many years.

Homemade peanut butter eggs...the coconut ones coming in second place.

If frog legs taste like chicken, why not just...eat chicken? Surely chickens are easier to cultivate, and are less axpensive.

Huh Earn Black Belt at home??
GhostlySykanRyu replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hey! I want a rematch then! I didn't watch Enter The Dragon 47 times, AND read Chuck Norris' biography just to take crap from martial artists like you. Think yer so special because you "train" and have an "instructor". Phh...bet you can't learn your techniques and eat a sandwich at the same time like I can. -
Too bad he doesn't sell the belt along with it, he'd make bigger bucks that way...
-
Soo...DID you ever get into the martial arts? Just curious...

I was fooling around on ebay, and found this...read the red print for a good laugh! Instructor won't promote you? No need! I can't believe that there's an organization out there that'll support that... Sorry if I'm breaking any forum rules in posting the link, but since I'm obviously not making any $ off of this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16044&item=7144455177&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I doubt the effectiveness of the holy water in most cases...rarely is a spirit "evil", and they likely have wills of their own. If anything this might just offend the spirit. Mischevious does not necessarily mean evil...and if there IS an evil presence, you need professional help, not holy water. I'd say that most of the methods on that page are from old folk tales (except for actually talking to the spirit). "Sand, rice, split peas, etc. Randomly toss rice, split peas, sand, salt (but not sugar as it leaves a sticky residue), coffee beans or grounds, or anything small and granular, on your kitchen floor when you go to bed at night (if that's when the ghosts are most bothersome). The ghosts will pause to count the grains of whatever-it-is. They aren't very good at counting, so they have to start over again, repeatedly, or they forget the numbers. " LOL, this is an old folk remedy to keep VAMPIRES at bay, not ghosts. "Avoid charlatans who carry a Bible or a dowsing wand, and claim to be "ghost busters" for a hefty donation. And watch out for the crazies in this field anyway. " Given those "remedies", I find this ironic

"Secrets revealed"...lol... You heard it guys, we can all leave our training halls...the Discovery Channel is going to tell us everything we need to know about the MAs!

Judo or JJJ
GhostlySykanRyu replied to seersin's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
"we do a few trips and sweeps that I'm told come from Judo.So I figure Judo is tha way to go." Judo was derived from JJJ, so I wouldn't base your decision on that. Judo is basically a sporting art based on JJJ. Jigoro Kano took out all of the dangerous techniques so they could be used in competition. The training methods of the two arts tend to be different because Judo can be practiced as a sport. In fact, if you find a Judo dojo that teaches purely for self defense, consider yourself lucky. "What's wrong with JJJ, why is that nobody like it?" That isn't really the case. Judo seems to simply fit his needs better. He asked for purely grappling/throws/submissions. He didn't say anything about actual self defense, and he did say that he was already a good striker, so Judo would likely be beter suited for him. If he wanted a well rounded art that is purely for self defense, I would suggest Jujutsu instead. -
I'm guilt of most of the aforementioned! Today... You know you're obsessed with the martial arts when you and your training partner run into the high school gym between periods just to spar for a minute. He tried to throw me O Goshi. Big mistake (Ushiro Goshi). He needs to work on his falls though, banged his elbow

You want to get...fat... I would suggest Krispy Kreme doughnuts...pile up on the bad carbs. If you eat meat make sure it isn't lean. If you drink milk make sure it's whole and full of chocolate powder and/or syrup. Consume plenty of soft drinks at room temperature (remember, drinking cool water burns 10 calories per serving, you need to avoid that!). Don't forget to move as little as possible. Oh, and if you consumer lots of protein drinks without any strenuous activity, that will turn to fat as well. Try spending time with fat friends to pick up on their fat habbits. To simplify it, take in more calories than you burn, and ruin your metabolism by sitting idley. The more calories you take in, the faster it will happen. I can't imagine why you'd want to gain 20 lbs. of disgusting fat, but it is your choice. You'll be winded easier, you'll feel like crap, and you'll be hindered as a martial artist. Good luck, I think

Huh Earn Black Belt at home??
GhostlySykanRyu replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The "Only Native American Martial Arts Master" sends the belt immediately, forget his name. "Honor system"...you're a black belt before you even view the videos. -
Most have us have heard of it, the old Hawaiian bone breaking art of Lua, said to have been/be very effective. Besides a few articles here and there, I have very little information on it, besides the fact that it was (possibly almost) wiped out with the introduction of guns to the islands during WWII. There must be some Lua practitioners out there...anyone have any information on Lua? I know that Danzan Ryu, and thusly Sykan Ryu, may very well have some aspects of Lua. After all, Okazaki compiled his techniques from the many arts he studied into Danzan Ryu while in Hawaii. In fact, Danzan Ryu means "Sandalwood Mountain Style" (Sandalwood Mountain being what the Japanese called Hawaii), so that would lead one to believe that the island's martial art, which Okazaki learned, would be part of the system.

Not really sure, they didn't say. The movie on now is dubbed into English, and is really more of a love story than anything... EDIT: They just advertised Fight Club. Never saw it...any MAs even in that?

Even if the videos are helpful to some point...they're $1000 sometimes! -
Yep...be sure to set your alarm clocks for 7:30! Hey..not like I'll watch it ALL day. I do push-ups and the like during the commercials. Well actually, I'm still watching the screen. Never mind, I will be watching all day

He hasn't replied...so either: -He was beaten and is ashamed to tell us about it. -He was knocked out cold and lost his memory, thus forgetting this site. -His parents found out about the fight and grounded him and/or knocked him out cold. -His MA instructor found out about the foolish scrap and beat him so badly that it is too painful to sit at a computer chair. -He is in prison/juvenile hall, where the internet is forbidden. -He used a part of his computer as a weapon during the fight, not realizing that he might need it later. -He tripped on a patch of ice on the way to the fight, and is in the hospital. Feel free to send get well cards. You could also mix N' match for your enjoyment. I kid I kid. (though they ARE possibilities)

GhostlySykanRyu replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sickening... Wonder how many people are willing to fork up the big bucks (though we do spend more on training, it doesn't seem like a large amount over the years) in a lump sum for a belt and a handful of videos? Anyone know one of these "black belts"( )? -
Good Fight Songs
GhostlySykanRyu replied to traz's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I'm a big Alice Cooper fan, and a lot of his songs, old and new pump me up. Theres a song on his newest album (The Eyes Of Alice Cooper[2003]) all about fighting: "Backyard Brawl". If you can find it online or pick up the CD I would highly recomend it. Also look for "Wicked Young Man" from the Brutal Planet album[2000]. Cooper had a really heavy sound for the Brutal Planet album, along with Dragontown, then went back to his origins with The Eyes Of Alice Cooper. Very good stuff Then theres practically anything from Iron Maiden or AC/DC. -
"While your using your killer instinct on attacker one, attackers two and three are stabbing you in the back." One wouldn't fare any better with "safer" techniques...you aren't really making a point here. "The prosecutor asks you why was it necessary to kill your attacker when he was on the ground and you had his back and the jury gives you that funny look." Who mentioned the ground? If theres more than one, ground grappling is foolish...

Neck breaking techniques are a part of some MAs, and shouldn't be ruled out. Whether you agree with them or not, they are a part of training for a large number of people, and have the same right to be on the forum as anything else. Think about it, any kid can come on here, look at a technique that one of us posts, try it, and injure/kill someone. Are we going to stop our learning experience here just because of that meager chance? I'm not going to. The forum isn't responsible for what people do with the information we post, and the information here can be found elsewhere online anyway.
