difference between sparring and real fighting

about 100 years ago in japan there was several different MA's that taught jujitsu. one would be all arm locks the others would be for legs locks another for headlocks and another for throws. i am not for sure what the other ones were. this guy Seishiro Okazaki took them all and put them into one system. he went to hawaii and meet up with some guy who was a master in Okinawan karate and they compined the two. i forget most of the story, but you can read all in https://www.bushidokan.us seriously this is the most in depth grappling MA i have ever seen. all in all there is about 200 to 225 basic techniques and then from there everything turns into a combo. my tae kwon do from what i have seen is made up of a considerably less amount of techniques -

i talked to one of the more aggressive instructors in jujitsu about the whole sparring vs fighting and he said that even though the master instructor is against it he believes it is good for a while. he likes it because it gives you a chance to get hit and develop reflexes and it helps develop what your lvl of space you want to mantain in a fight. and maybe loose some of the fear but he believes that you should quite after a while once you have developed this because you will develope a muscle memory to not do certain moves or to natural forget about some targets on your body usually avoided in sparring, such as the eyes or the groin. he is not against all forms of all out sparring, just the really limited ones like boxing or TKD sparring. unlike my master instructor he believes that BJJ sparring would be the best type of sparring to do. -
everyone in my class has their own take on sparring and how to get points. my favorite move is a twist round house, it has no power but fast as hell. they do not teach this kick in tae kwon do class, i just did the kick one night in sparring and i found it was a good fast kick. my instructor says that it is a japanese style twist roundhouse. anybody know of a good sparring video or book that talks about techniques and strategy.

the reason why you cant use pads is becease most of the moves are joint locks and breaks. there really isnt anything to wear. pads in this martial art are pretty useless. and when did i ever say that the basic moves of my martial art do not work. i never said that. i simply said it was hard to practice them. where did this thought come from. -
im looking for a book that will help me relax and find my center. i dont want some book telling me to light candles or anything and none of that herbal stuff, just something that will a good way to relax. sometimes i find my center, but it is hard to find my way back. some times i will be in this state of mind that i have no worries and everything is perfect, i feel like nothing can hurt me because i somehow am nothing, like maybe im on another level. if this makes since to you.

i like these answers, but i think i need to clarify something it is not that we have no sparring at all, it is just that the moves we prctice are literally impossible to practice with full out. we have a few things we sparr with, but most of the moves cant be done. i take two MA's tae kwon do and Dan Zan Ryu Zenyo Bujutsu in TKD sparring can be done almost full out with pads but in jujitsu our sparring is so light becuase any stronger and people would get seriously hurt. -
one of my master instructors usally sparrs with us on fridays. when people spar him he always gets them with these two kicks. back kick and hook kick. when somebody lifts one of their legs to kick, he does a back kick or a hook kick to the head. he tells everyone that he gets the move in because one of our legs is weighted as we try to kick so we can not get out of the way. what are some possible counters or blocks if I cannot move from my spot as he goes for the kick.

even though i am only 19, i have lived a alot. i have lived all over the united states. i lived on guam for a number of years and been to a few other islands. i have had relationships with women that have made me happier than i could have ever imagined. there really are only about 2 maybe 3 things in life i want to try. but for the most par, i am ready to go. or maybe im just depressed that i have no girlfriend. oh and about that comment that its harder to live and easy to die. it is much easier to live, because as long as you live you can still feel joy.

I was walking home and a group of 5 guys starting yelling comments at me. I kept walking because i thought it would be foolish to attack 5 people. a few weeks later, i spotted one of them and i walked up to him and talked to him in a calm voice. the words i used were a little threatening. it was very clear that i had succeeded in frightening him. if he would have attacked me directly after this, who would be at fault? me or him

Push-Ups, require more effort now than when I started...
dear john replied to Dragonfly's topic in Health and Fitness
at the begining of the summer I maxed out at 55. I did this every night with little advncement. I decided that me bulking like I was, did not better my performance in class. i stopped completly, no push ups. i started running 5 miles every other day and i punched at a punching bag . now i can do 63 push ups. people think im stronger, but it is just my endurance. i could be wrong, but this is how my body works. -
in tae kwon do I have about 9 different instructors and they all have different takes on the subject. I had one instructor that told me to ignore the other instructors and to never try and kick somebody in the head during a fight. but i have this one instructor that makes me really angry. all the time she talks about kicking high and doing the best we can with these high kick, but it seems lik she forgets technique. most of the time if you kick the highest that you can, then youe technique tends to go away. but she insists on focusing on it in every class that she is teaching. the instructor that says no high kicks is a second degree and is old, more experienced in the fighting world. the instructor that says high kicks are good is a third degree and is only about 18 or 19 years old and i dont think she has ever been in a fight. and then there are the instructors in between. who do you think i should leen towards? idont want to make a bad decision

i have heard many martial artists talk about the differences between sparring and real fighting. i currently take (tae kwon do) and (dan zan ryu zenyo bujutsu) my instructor in the jujitsu class told me that he had to make a decision a long time ago about whether a\or to keep sparring, because of the way the moves in this MA sparring is very hard. he said that sparring with any kind of rules really was an inafective way to learn how to fight. he claims that he has trained and fought with some of Gracie's brazilain jujitsu people and even they had could not beat him, because even there hard core MA had rules. his MA has none. please give some advise. i have heard this arguement and others who support sparring fully as a way to learn how to fight.

im talking in depth from one regime to the next and if it cant be done in one book please list the others. I do not want a book that will tell me techniques on how to do moves, i want a history and why moves were created, who created them. stuff like this would be helpful. i am currently studying two MA's and so far it has been a blast. but for some reason i always enjoy learnin about the history and the making of MA's. none of my instructors know too much about the histiry.
