it is not a brag, it is more like a fear, like you cant look away, i dont know just wanted some responses. most people dont usually brag about starring others down, they just do it like it was an everyday thing. you really cant be proud of something like that.

< JeetKuneDo > I have yet to see any evidence of calcium deposits on ribs i have asked my doc a ciropractor and several of my MA instructors, even though they all say it is a bad idea, they agree that you can build deposits on the ribs. so i guess in the end i reccomend that you do not do it, but seriouly everyone posted to this response saying that it was impossible, and they never knew in the first place. why respond and call me a liar when you yourseld never knew in the first place? kind of pointless.
-
i asked my doc about this a while ago if i find out he was BSing me im gonnahit the roof. where did you read that you cant build calcium deposits on your ribs. why do some MAs have you kick each other on the body to make it stronger. i wonder if i was simply killing nerves and thats why i thought they were stronger, because i couldnt feel them as much. ill ask my doc again, but i still tink you can build calcium on rib bones.

the place i live in now is so strange. people like try to half stare you down but dont go through with it. in my old nieghborhood, it was bad, you risked getting your butt kicked if you walked down the wrong street at night and that street was one street over from mine. people had the ultimate stare downs there. but where i live now, nobody has that stare. people try to act like they have an attitude wih me and i just stare at them, eventually they get scared and go away. and it is not this scary star either, i dont have any thoughts of hurting these people, it is just a stare, i know the risk of looking way, so i cant because im afraid of what the unseen person might do. these people who look away know that the stare is supposedly hard core and if they can stare someone down than they feel tough, but do they know why people get starred down. i dont really know what questions i want answered, i just want to hear some responses. do any of you stare others down? do you think it is an art? can it be taught? or does it have to be pounded into you by fear?

it is easy when entering a McDojo you have to see it for what it is. ask yourself these simple questions: 1. do students commonly get a belt rank with out have the required moves/techniques down for that belt? 2. do you have to pay more money as the belt ranks go up? to it is just a belt with dye added to it, so why pay more? 3. does the organization spend more time trying to make money than on their students? 4. one of the things at one of my MA Dojo's is that they sell video tapes with the master instructor on them showing perfect technique for a particular belt. these tapes go from white belt to brown belt. the white belt curiculum takes about 5 minutes to explain, yet the videos are $20. if they spend any real time at all developing these videos they could fit a good 7 or 8 belt curriculums on one tape. but that wouldnt make as much money, so the spread it out among a dozen or so tapes. little things like this are in McDojos i personally wouldnt be in this one, but i like to mix my MA's and this one cost me nothing.

i never said that my stick training wouldnt prevent him from getting the wind knocked out of him. this strengthens the bones only and probly kills a few nerves while your at it, if you muscles are weak then the stick training is pretty worthless.

listen im not saying this would be a good tool to use all the time and yes i realize how hard it would be to poke somebody in th eyes in a fight. but you all forget about my idea about simply sparring with safety goggles to perfect this dangerous technique. if you could become good in sparring, a fight shouldnt be much harder. has any of you ever tried a sparring situation.
-
i have never done it, but i think it would be a good idea if some were to develope some type a skill in being able to do so. i think there should be sparring classes where you wear safety goggles and you practice poking each other in the eye, blocks and strikes. if you could become a skilled eye poker, i think it would add an extra edge to you combative MA. after all combative MA's have no rules. any thoughts, ideas.

Wanting lightning fast kicks, advice needed.....

Bruce Lee also pintpointed the importance of striking well...hard. Training not to can't be good when the real deal comes.> yes i do agree, but..... ARE YOU SERIOUS in my opinion TKD sparring is a horrible way to learn how to fight, i simply know ways to make you gain points fast. i know kicks you can throw that most cant feel at all at the contact point. these type of kicks would probly go to the groin in a real fight. im not an expert on TKD sparing, but the only good things that i see in it are 1. reading feet 2. finding your confort space 3. reaction time although these qualities are needed for a skilled fighter, it is not the only things needed and TKD sparring just doesnt teach it. i have discussed this issue before. if you want to learn how to really fight, there will be a point in your life when you will have to give up TKD sparring. just how i feel. feel free to tell me off if you want. no worries, be happy -

if i remember correctly, it wasnt his spine he stretched, it was his legs and he did so by hanging from a tree with weights and all. i could be wrong though, i have to check the book. -
they tell you not to eat whole grain cereal before you workout hard because it helps to dehydrate you faster but i have been doing it for a while and i seem to be fine. out of all the things i have eaten before jogging, the whole grain stuff seems to do the leastdamage. i have this with a cup of pineapple kewi blend and a peice of toast. it is my energy breakfast, i dont eat this every day but on a heavy day i have this.

dude when you hit a bone with a hard object you are creating tiny fractures in the bone. AND YES I AM IN A SENSE BREAKING MY BONES. but if you do it hard enough it will cause a big bruise, internal bleeding. i do know what i am talking about. i do it to myself and on my shins and ribs, it works believe me and not someone who has never done it.
-
he is right about therib thing. no matter how strong your rib bones are, it wont do much unless you have the body muscle tightness to back them up. but it will prevent them from being broken if you were ever to be hit with that force.

i think your intructor is worried that you guys were not learning how to defend yourself and maybe thinksthe competition was getting in the way, but yes i do agree that you should follow your heart. put some thought into it though, i see too many peeps who instantly follow what they feel at the y\time and dont think about later. think about how you might feel later then follow your heart. just my veiw, dont take too seriously

Huge redneck vs one of my instructors.

very cool -
i have to tell you the most important thing you will ever hear in the martial arts world. Mcdojos are fun, im in a McDojo and im addicted. i have way too many friends in them. but i think thats why people join, for social purposes. in a year when i am more advanced in my jujitsu training i would like to beat the crap out of all my instructors. today was a sad day today in my taekwondo. i realized that nearly everything she said about self defense was a horrible lie. i use to think i knew so much about martial arts and then i started to to mix my martial arts and holy crap i found out that i am a * in a MA IQ test

Wanting lightning fast kicks, advice needed.....

when Vito says give up on an effective kick i know exactly what he means. i spar every week and for a while now nobody except for the master instructor has out scored me. i throw no hard kicks except for a back kick. everything else is a simple relax and explode, but keep relaxed. it is like bruce lee's punches. he wants you to keep your hands loose and only make a fist when you make contact. he said this because if you stay solid from swing to hit you will have a slower punch. it is the same thing for kicks, keep it loose and make it stiff and hard when you make contact for maximum speed and power, but if you never become hard the kick will be lightening fast but with no power. or maybe vito thinks kicks above the waist are dumb, but this is how i spar. -
take a stick and hit your ribs. do this every day forever. dont do it too hard, never enough to make a visible bruise. only do it once a day. eventually you will build a good calciums deposits and hve strong ribs. the place above the abs and below the chest is called the solar plexus and strengthening that takes basic stomach exercises.

my instructor has us do slow motion round houses while leaning up against a wall. first we chamber(lift up leg) then extend the leg and hold it. when i hold my leg out (stomach level) i get a cramp in my butt cheek muscles. my instructor tells me that it is because i have weak leg muscles and i need to practice doing it more. i get the feeling she is full of crap and simply ignoring the cramp while i train will only make things worse. Am i wrong in this assumption? what can i do to make my cramps go away? has anyone of you ran into this problem and how dfid you fix it?

best book for grappling
dear john replied to dear john's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
i do grapple in my MA but it is usually every other week. usually we go real hard in sparring and afterward we grapple, but lately the instructyors want us to only sparr. im just looking for a book that talks about alot of basic and advanced techniques.
