  1. haha physically there, but mentally somewhere else. Silunt, maybe its one of those ''verge of falling asleep''?
  2. -.-...you guys make me feel like ive been wasting my money on tkd, haha nah im jp..im proud to be learning it.I guess its becuase my school is a lot different from other tkd schools. My school has only a Grandmaster who is basically the only instructor, there is no lower master than him that teaches...unless he wants a BB to lead the class sometimes. He is around his early 60's,born and raised in korea...he learned tkd, hapkido, and kendo..tkd was his main favorite style. In our classes on mon-wen nights we practice our grapplings and we call em ''self-defenses''..cuz grandmaster cant speak english to well. And there are certain ones that lower belts to higher belts learn everytime they advance in belt.Ive noticed that after or when you reach BB,you start learning hapkido instead of just arm locks and whutnot, grandmaster even said it was hapkido. But the thing about my grandmaster is,he'll only teach how to use weaponary to koreans or people who he thinks has potential.
  3. thats true ina way,tkd kicks my looks painful and fancy but they arent to great for fights cuz one..if u do a kick like that and miss, you'll be clearly open for an attack,in all the street fights ive been in,i always attacked the legs to get an open for a stronger kick.
  4. yeah, the top two knuckles are supose to aline with the wrist(as told by my friend who takes karate). Taekwondo uses all 4 knuckles.Mainly becuz when you punch your fist is sideways instead of sideways liek karate.
  5. welcome...yeah i think out of all MA forums ive checked out this seems to be the top.
  6. Hey,i got a question for the people who know about Bruce Lee very well. I was watching Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story a few hours ago on TNT and for anyone whos seen it,remember when he fights Luke at the setting of Big Boss film set? after bruce and luke start fighting for a bit theres a part where luke throws a punch and misses when bruce ducks, then bruce does countless rapid punches to luke in the midsection. The sound of hitting the stomach and since the camera angles kept switching it made it look like he was goin pretty fast I was wondering if bruce really could do that much punches that fast..could he really do it? or was it just to show sum fanciness off?
  7. In Game of death he was pretty good to keep up at bruce's pace at that kind of height. His legs bent a lot but im sure when its fully extened its like bein hit by a 6 foot pole....but black..and has a foot..and a kneecap..ok ill shut up now
  8. just keep sparring and sparring. It brings up your speed, power and reflex's,also your instructor should correct you in any mistakes you make...eventually your skill will boost from experience. Also if that kick isnt as weak as you say,it wont matter if it is fast..in tkd tournements the judges have to see ad hear the impact of the kick for a point.
  9. infection from the ink? iono haha
  10. dats why we have preperation H :]
  11. i use that to wipe my *
  12. haha you sound more like a Bolo Yeung to me(bloodsport, return of the dragon,shootfighter...basically hes a BIG martial artist). Remember this..if your opponent is stronger than you,you must be faster,if your opponent is faster than you,you must be smarter. They maybe fast and be flying in the air,but your the more experience fighter,u can spot blind spots on them more quickly than they could on you.plus whenever they do flying kicks, jsut do a front snap kick n send them tumbling.
  13. i always think that the type of dojo's that dont appear on commercials are much better and cheaper.
  14. just a pair of black nunchakus and a metal pipe :]
  15. no no no no no no no and NO,sarah michelle gellar is not a MAist. Those are all stunt doubles..also you can tell by her sloppy form when they show her doing sum fighting...maybe its just the highheels..iono.. Ive only sen her play two roles of characters fighting...buffy and daphney from scooby doo.
  16. Yea i saw that from kick boxer...poor van damme. Nah but the tree is also duck taped with these thin ragged up pillows i found near the recycle section of the garbage outside of my house(i live in townhouse xP).My shins arent gonna lose its feelings like muay thai fighters....hopefully not..if so i gotta find thicker pillows..
  17. they have belt colors for kickboxing?! anywhos getting back to topic, even though currently i am taking off for tkd until january since of transport i still train daily except sundays.Since im not getting a punching bag of my own ive devised my own ''creative'' gear to help benefit my training.Ive duck taped a phonebook to my backyard tree and punch the * out of it,and put my shin gaurds on and continously kick the tree for a certain amount of number. My list -warm ups:push ups, stretches, sit ups/leg presses,jumping/hopping -basic kicks and punches -go onto more of the advance techniques -go outside and work on my punching bag/tree -come back in the house n shadow box for about 3-5 minutes...i usually focus on fighting my thermostat n pretend that its a fist coming at me.. im weird but yeah..ill do anything to keep up my training.
  18. it also helps you think faster in fights or in tight situations..thats what ive read atleast..
  19. yeah,my instructor tells us the olympicians today suck since they only use legs, and he says th use of hands are very useful and what he says is true since i use my arms a lot in sparring.Like there are moments where both opponents kick n sort of stall..those r moments when u punch so they back off and gives u a chance for a immidiate kick.I try to make sparring as real as a real fight for me. I also asked my friend that i wanted to learn karate instead...but he told me to stick with tkd.He told me unless i wanted to kill sumone since his style taught him to grab peoples wind pipes n tear them out(the tube on your throat).
  20. taekwondo is a fabulous art for flexibility and to work up your endurance.Karate is mainly for hand to hand combat situations.Kick boxing/muay thai would be useful for exercising and also for hand to hand combat. Weapons training are usually for advance users like blackbelts and up..thats how it is in my dojo.
  21. mainly bruce lee movies, not the nowaday movies with strings.I guess its just the violence that keeps me going. Basically the main motive is to protect...protect protect protect my friends and family.
  22. u mean fight with a knife that also be a flute? hahahaha
  23. hm..on sumdays i dont have a ride..but id say around 20ish days a month,i try to stay dedicated, and i boost up my dedication by watching action movies and sparring.
  24. uh..i go everyday..well i try to if i can get a ride to my dojo. But currently i am not involved with my dojo until we get our second car..i wish i could drive..then i could go everyday :[
  25. you are NEVER to old to start martial arts.Im 15 and i started a year ago in taekwondo. Look around for Dojos/schools around your area and find one that intrests you. Some places are open 5 days a week and let you come whenver you want but some schools let you come on certain amount of days. All martial art schools are different..remember that. You must be dedicated to what you learn, getting lazy wont help you become any better of a fighter. And always remember you learn this for self-defense..not to start fights. Its better to learn with a instructor rather than by yourself since he/she could give you pointers or teach you how to handle any situation.
