  1. Nicely put and observed.
  2. Coco, No, the nose cant kill a person. Darn, I thought I had that move mastered. I would reccomend any kind of locks or pressure to vital points, which wont really have any violence, but you will make him beg you to let go Vital points, like vital being fatal? non -violence? Anyways, in conclusion, dont be afraid to take a hit, chances are your opponent is as scared, or even more scared than you. If you get hit, you come back up and use your best judgement on what you should aim for. I have been hit...hard at times. Did not see the "fear" in my oponnents eyes. Just messin with you Coco..... I get your message. Its ALL good
  3. An attempt is better than not trying
  4. A new tyor of Martial Art...Computer at Do
  5. Do they use it to make reference per this era? Do they use it as general reference for others? Thus, making it less complicated.
  6. "and one reason i can see why your sifu dismisses it is because he speaks mandarin." And he and his Shifu do the same. Since my master (one of their students) sent me to them, I should give them more honorary titles. But, they refused to let me called them Grandmaster, or Great Grandmaster (well the later deacesed since 1981 at the age of 80) Back in the 70's they told me during their era (more or less words...they had broken English), it was not spoke of as a Martial Art. And boy, the Great Grandmaster (for reference), had much to tell. One of the Shi Mu(s) kept a scrap book of memoirs and many volumes or chronicles. The strangest thing about writing a journal, is when I started martial art training I was forced to write one and it spans 30+ years from adolescence to adult. During the junvenile years , I loathed it. However, re-reading them (mine own) makes me laugh (and sorrow), and brings back entertainment and joy. Now, this brings me to the point... You cannot say that I am wrong....or that you are completey right via birth and other. The post "Shaolin Kung Fu Does Not Exists" leaves it enticing for disccusion. Breaking down the many aspects, including breaking down the group of words leaves for some interesting conversation. I hold no anomosities toward you and enjoy reading your posts. And yes, I am willing to "argue with a Drunken Monkey"
  7. Hey, were are not talking about common social morals here, we are talking about Martial Art related subjects. See the struting going on......
  8. Have you spoke to older Chinese, per Sifus of Mainland China, say 60+ years?
  9. Yeah, but youthful exuberance gets in the way of a discipline, like martial arts.
  10. can you explain why a car is called a car? why an orange is called an orange? can you prove those explainations? Yes to a degree, but not limited to understanding that others can explain it it other ways. And, I wont say its complicated. Is it complicated for you to explain? Is it a barrier of linguistics? cognitive supposition is a term used to describe how the brain supercedes known 'truths' or what you decide to be true. more accurately, it is describing how the brain effectively overwrites the Mld information, hence rendering it obselete and considers it to be 'wrong'. Yes, I understand your use of the term.....but the part of your brain that considers it to be wrong...could be considered as "right" to others. PER SUBJECT of course. I am not asking you to prove the language of Chinese. Show me references of it. Chinese works.....you had mentioned a reference......on another post.....I can't seem to relocate it....but it is interesting as I hope to get a copy and hopefully get a Chinese in the area to help me with it, if it isnt already translated beyond "complications" The only references I have, in scant detail, is my Chinese master, and his master, whom virtually dimisses the use of the term Kung Fu in describing Chinese Martial Arts. Now, I do not know his basis on why he chose this... Perhaps he thinks it too is "complicated"
  11. Those scrolls, sutras, are still read and shown amongst Chen Buddhist. Some records are even, in all places, the Im[erial Japanese Archives. But you are right...who REALLY knows......the authors of writings then exgagerated a re-write things
  12. The price of the test is the worth of it to the practitoner. It is the same as antiquities.
  13. Great.....hope they keep at it....but other activities (such as boyfriends and girlfriends), could break them away.
  14. Fair enough...whenever you can
  15. i should add that it is a very general way to refer to the martial arts. if you like, it is almost like a slang term to refer to martial arts training to the layman Yes,, this is what I have been waiting for..... Is it more of a slang? as i said, it is specific to martial arts and has been adopted for other skills, not the other way around. From what I have heard, it WAS the other way around 60+ years ago.
  16. i should add that it is a very general way to refer to the martial arts. if you like, it is almost like a slang term to refer to martial arts training to the layman
  17. Not a target in a public place....the law/legal system will prevent that.... But, out of view....per walking to a auto, etc...
  18. i'm not presenting myself as an authority. Sometimes you come across to me as a "authority", esp when you tell someone here they are "wrong". Give opinions, but lets not say theirs are wrong or yours are right. however, i do believe that i am one of the very few people here who speaks the language and is able to translate and give accurate descriptions of things from the chinese language. Granted.....but not necessarily on Shaolin, Chi, Kung Fu systems. Here is where that depiction of "authority" can come on stronger. But stonger by blatantly stating someone is wrong or you are right. perhaps you would prefer me to not answer questions Furthermore, I value your opnions as others on this board. I have a tendancy to stimulate these in weird ways, some pre-meditated, some not. I sincerely look forward to reading your posts among the few other people that I enjoy theirs as well.
  19. In Chen Buddhism, this is exaggerated. Scholars studying the old sutras explain that the ancient authors use metaphors. There are documents that explain he did give them exercise for the long hours of meditation. Much of my info is from the studying of Buddhism, its sutras, and origins. Imperial Japanese archives have a lot on "Bodi" also.
  20. If you believe that you are or that possibily are or could be. Cognitive Supposition: What proof or support you have behind such? Simply saying that you born in a culture, or "its complcated", isnt sufficient to support certain claims of knowledge to. This is why I ask for proof (again, not from irriation disbelief, or my belief), but proof for some reference points. And, some explanations to your opinions. (some of which are interesting)
