J.L., Wish you were nearby. Anyway, my continued words: My book(mind) is still open until I find such a "master"..... Until then I can still hold some doubt or skepticism. BTW, hope your family or friends keep safe.....if you're in Florida. In Louisiana....WE know about Hurricanes... At least, unlike Tornadoes, Earthquakes, and other natural disasters, you can see a Hurricane coming. Again....be safe and peace

Do you practice combative martial arts?
47MartialMan replied to delta1's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes to all, and then some,...for the initial post...... -
So, at the moment, I have a lot of time on my hands.... Soon, you will hardly see me once I get back into other routines.

What is your definition of the term, Martial Arts? I think Webster's has it wrong: The version of Webster's I have state: "Any several Oriental arts of combat. As Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, usually practiced as a sport." Looking for opinions/statements[/b]

It is not the BEST... Different than the Rest. As I keep saying: 1.) It is not the art, but the Artist. 2.) A verstility of many styles/systems makes a versitile martial artist. Consider this: All martial arts were developed over time from: Man's stuggle against man Trial and error Material studied from other arts Material that someone newly discovered, and/or had previous material to build upon. None can be truely be the BEST, per Ultimate, and/or maintain a level of complete authenticity. Because the era that they were first needed, the culture, and methods change in time. -
Because the Gracies cited a California police department that pofferd that statistic for the altercatoins involving offices (who, coincidentally, are trained specifically to take a suspect to the ground). The reson the Gracies found this useful for marketing is because they have a primarily ground art. Thanks JL...I thought it also had to do with that UFC.... Back to the post..... Aikido come to mind at first...... Not as first (place).....just what poped in....

For Tang So Do practitioners: It has been a long while since I had practiced Korean Martial Arts.... So my Korean pronounciation is rusty... Tang So Do: Is it pronounced "Tohng Sul Dough" With snapphy short empahsis on the forst do and a somewhat "roll" on the last. Incidently, my FIRST martial art was TKD/Hapkido..same instructor.. Many, many years ago in the late 60's.

F.B.I.? I nthis case, the Federal Bereau of Idiots? -
I put this to you....if it started on your feet, and it gets to the ground, then you had less skills to maintain from keeping off the ground to begin with. Because the confrontation did not START on the ground. Hold the phone......when I seen someone get hit hard.....the nect podstion they made, they fell to the ground, unconcious, or near uncomciousness.... Does this count for "ending on the ground"?
-
Yes, could it be trying to get "points" Just messin..... I gave my instructors "gifts"...but it wasn't after a belt test. Its ALL good!!!
