  1. Heck, no i don't embrace pain, just mentaly brace myself for it. Hey, is that Chi?
  2. But, it is one of the many Chinese dialogues.
  3. Did you mention it was a Buddhist text? Please, give me more info about it. Thanks
  4. No, but I can smell some wind.
  5. I heard somewhere that the "crane kick" used in the Karate Kid movie was actually created specifically for the movie and was not derived from any actual karate move or stance. I could be wrong, or my source could be wrong, but I was fairly certain that at the time, that move was not a legitmate karate move because it had no practical application. I also heard from the same source (I think it might have been a special feature on the DVD, but I'll have to double check) that the move was created specifically to look cool and make for a climactic ending. Wap We ahve been doing that kick LONG before KK. In fact, there is a multiple array of methods to do it.
  6. No, DM, It is I, that must apologise. And, yes, perhaps I have to "get used" to the way you post. So, please, if you will, accept my apology for I mean no intentional/personal insult.
  7. Thanks MJ This adds to what I am saying '"This vs "That" seem to establish opinions that lead to "Which Is Better". The martial arts is like a palette, it is in the matter of "taste". Is it true that the "best" trained/prepared, along per situation, is the decisive ending?
  8. Very well put DM I like the last analogy. A Jewish Dilemma: A FREE ham sandwich.
  9. One of my instructors taught this. He did not have a name for it. For testing the applications, we got busted up to say the least.
  10. Yeah, very........ I thought tao (dao) also meant way/path?
  11. DM, Don't get ruffled...... It was a compliment I like your posts

  13. But is there a 42-year-old named Marcus with one tooth in Spain? Funny Do you know this? Also, out of etiquette or decorum, please discuss with him my plans to visit, somewhat of a introduction. I am looking, with complete earnest to visit, learn/experience, thus I will post my findings.
  14. Again, is "do" non-Chinese? (Playing devils-advocate) Jeet Kune Do...where did the "do" come from? Please IM/PM me on them (shaolin do), there is one nearby.
  15. So delta1, KM has its cons as well as other arts?
  16. Are we thinking post or pre Chinese characterization? Are we talking about a Chinese one influenced by Indian, or other? BTW, I cant seem to locate the book you had posted Gum Gong Sum.....? Please correct me so that I can locate this text.
  17. DM is so ostentatious, aka/slang "strut". And yes, I agree to the term fighting arts becoming a recognizable term for a broader, accurate distinction.
  18. Thanks for the links.... I love to visit sites. Some are favorites
  19. Healthier body.....yes Healthier mind.....how? Spirit..................they were Buddhist, did they need martial arts/combat for spirit? To understand Shaolin, is to understand Chen Buddhism. Fortunately, one of my students is a Collegiate Professor. He teaches "Eastern Philosophy and Regions" His specialty, and a separate course, is Buddhism. He can read and write sanskirt. He has given me Buddhist (monks and practitioners) contacts to correspond with. These discussions, I have recorded/transcript. I have learned much from all of them. Ex: Was there such a person-Bodhidarma? What is the true description and teachings of Bodhidarma? What are some of their rituals? Why do they shave their heads? What are the "dots" on the heads? Why are the robes orange/red? What are Mandelas? Being people of peace, why would they be interested in fighting/combat? Did they call this Kung Fu? Many more..... Older Buddhists had answers and I found two, in particular, to have actually read and studied old/surviving sutras.
  20. '"This vs "That" seem to establish opinions that lead to "Which Is Better". The martial arts is like a palette, it is in the matter of "taste". Is it true that the "best" trained/prepared, along per situation, is the decisive ending?

  22. Here is a sort of on/off topic wuestion: Why did Shaolin monks practice combative arts? Giving the discipline, study, and criteria for Chen Buddhism?
