  1. I had a juvenile student that shown up with his "wired"
  2. Take it from me-It is hard to convince someone with words.
  3. You mean strangulation? To choke is to cut off air, not blood. Any 'choke hold' that cuts off the carotid arteries will shut off the major blood supply to the brain (there is actually a third artery to the brain, but it is insufficient to maintain consciousness or prevent brain dammage if the carotids are compromised). But shuting of the carotid arteries for even a brief time is very dangerouse. It can send the wrong signals internally and shut down breathing. Be very careful with your 'chokes'- they are nothing to take lightly. I'd always have a knowlegable observer whenever practicing chokes. I'm not a grappler, but I used to train ambulance crews and have field experience with this. It is so easy to kill someone like this that checking the carotid pulse incorrectly can do it. Agreed....
  4. Not really, he was over-worked, over-stress, git frequent painful headaches.....If the mind is not healthy, no use in having a body that is.

  6. Interesting, do you know most of the styles of Tai Ji? Not per learning, per existence.
  7. So this particular text, the Gum Gong Ging, is un-changed and everything in it is completely understood? Where can I find a copy of this text?
  8. Funny you should mention this. Out of 100+ books I have collected over 30+ years, this one was strangely interesting. it was given to me by my grandchild, my 14 year old niece years ago. (well she is no longer 14)
  9. Actually it did not ALL begin in China. India and Egypt is a are more ancient. And they had systematic fighting arts.
  10. If you going to be on the subject of killing without spilling.... Dim Mak........
  11. Yeah, MA contracts are like cell phone and gym contracts....yuck!!!!!
  12. Ive been syaing to my students and others, that the martial arts, or fighting arts, are developed per era of the needs. So, these methods, etc., have to change to the need of this era. For example, per medical analogy, to stop profuse bleeding, a wound had to be cauderized. Or leeches were applied for ailements. Blood transfusions were not even thought of and when it was introduced, there was skepticism. Medicine did not continue on a archaic need. It changed per era as discoveries were introduced. Should martial/fighting arts in this era, per surviving combat reflect archaic methods using or against archaic weapons?
  13. Styles are like opinions, everybody has theirs.
  14. I will appear to be weak. No "guard positon". sometimes talk "geeky, shy, and nervous".
  15. My shimu has a facial expression of digust when she talks about the chracter and concept term of "fighting". She will say, if I got this correctly, "Fighting-Pu How"
  16. First, you have to narrow it down to specifics. Korean, Chinese, Japanese, American, International. Then search within those. A good book to read is The Original Martial Arts Encyclopedia-Tradition-History-Pioneers by John Corcoran & Emil Farkas or The Fighting Arts by Howard Reid & Michael Croucher Books are hardly good for physical instruction, but these two, and a few others I can list, will give you some details on many styles/systems
  17. Yeah, Ive done that....but we know each others pet peeves....so we pretty much stand clear. Except when she "moves" something of mine into a completely different location.

  19. Yes, it was him. I came across his pic in a martial art mag shortly after the meeting. I had studied, instead, with a student/instructor of his. I still have the written training outlines and familiar patch. I am not saying he(Richard) is bad. I am saying he was a little conceited. Perhaps, at that time, he did not have time to train anyone else. This was a time that maybe he had a different mood or perspective. I don't know. I met him in a town called Metairie, Louisiana. But this incident, was years ago. You can look up his whereabouts/residency. If you find someone else that knows him personally. You will find that he had lived in Louisiana, or still lives there. Right now, as the moment I write this, I am looking through my contact log to find his address and phone, at least what it was years ago. This contact info I had saved in a personal phone book I mis-placed somewhere. My wife has a habit of moving things on me and forgetting to tell me. Does this all make sense now. Research any associates of his and you will find out that he lived in Louisiana. As soon as I find his info, I will contact him again to see if he changed his "outlook". Afterall, I would not mind to continue Kenpo with him.
  20. Right now, I dont have that luxury of time....too many thing going on.
  21. Yes, I have met him (Richard Planas) a few years ago. He lives nearby. A guy a work introduced me. This guy I worked with, very arrogant, he kept saying, Kenpo was great this, great that. When he "found out" that I was a MA, the guy wouldn’t leave me alone in the work place. Which is why I have a policy not to disclose that I am. Anyway, he took me to see Mr. Planas. Mr. Planas was very excited to talk about Kenpo. He spoke of Kenpo was great this, great that. He said “Kenpo the world’s greatest fighting art”. He did some demos. Very interested, I had asked if I could study. Mr. Planas said no. He had turned me down. His reason: “I don't teach previously trained martial arts. They would not learn. They will be in conflict with Kenpo". To which I had replied: " Sir, I can understand what you mean. but to a certain degree. True, I have been to many systems, but each time I had studied something new, I did not do a comparison while training. My mind was "fully opened". You should not compare me to any one else. I am a different person" Mr. Planas may have come across training someone, whom was a martial artist before training with him. I can just picture it because the scenario had presented itself to me with a "new-arrival student" My new student would say: "I (he) didn’t do this at....I (he) did this at.....This is not good....." So on. Now, without training in it, how could I understand it? I wrote this story down, as I have written anything to do with MA. I have always written in a diary, a journal on MA. On my MA observations, experiences, and/or encounters. Do make a long story short; when I was very young, my writing/reading skills were poor. It was my mother whom put me in my first martial art class/school. (Not for a need to learn how to fight/study, but for discipline) To have me practice reading and writing, she threw notebooks at me at demanded that I start a written journal. I look back at the journal(s) and I see the transitions of my changes. I still laugh re-reading some of it.
