  1. what the???
  2. Yeah, been there, done that.... In one of the systems that I had studied, for a higher level, one by one, we were told to go into a room. It was small and poorly lit. Suddenly people were in there attacking you. They were full padded and the "victim" was not. There was a "timer" set. The "victim" had so much time to exit the room via the other end. The attackers were padded (except for their hands) to emulate stronger opponents. One had to hit hard to back them up in order to get to that exit. Many injuries were substained, but none too bad as hospitalization (that I know of). Other situations were set up like this. the instructor of that particluar system wanted his high rankers to "back up" their level. it was a grueling system to practice. No juveniles were there.
  3. What is your opnion that qualifies someone as a good MA instructor? As a master? As a good self defense instructor? As a successful Martial Arts entrepeneur?
  4. Yeah those "strings" and superhuman feats can be boring......except in a "matrix".........
  5. Fortunately, I "stumbled" upon a Okinawan Karate instructor. he taught straight out of his home. No payment was made. Before we started any physical moves, he drilled us on history and philosophy. Then, the physical moves were simple and painful!!! At that time, we did not know why we had to do so simple moves. We wanted to pinch and kick.
  6. I had wished wrestling was offered in my high school..... We had wrestling, Wrestling to get the grades and pass. Wrestling to actually attend classes. Wrestling to keep, or get, girl friends.
  7. So, you have action movies to motivate?
  8. I think most here are MATechs.....funny that sounds like Master Auto Techs
  9. At least you try to go....How many times a month?
  10. But, has he met his match, his superior?
  11. Active in mind or body?
  12. You forgot one: "Verstile Martial Artist"
  13. Of course family will say it may have been foul play. He was in another women's apartment.
  14. Yeah, DevilAside, I have a feeling I know what you mean
  15. Actually, MA can also be that of non-expression.
  16. And I did state: Most Japanese and Korean Masters will not admit their hiearchy lineage, hence is why names were changed. If one is to truely research their system, they will find it had came from somewhere else. Not to state that once it reached a certain destination, that it wasn't changed per methods and name. My point, per a veracious guidance, is the realization that all styles/systems, have benefits, pros, cons, as the next, and none are truely original or maintain to be inimitably authentic.
  17. In speaking of sparring, I will use a "cross-leg stance". I was speaking of defense stance earlier
  18. Anyone with any more of links such as this?
  19. The "Warlock" has dazzled me again with his "writing magic"
  20. I don't know or have a opinion of Tiger Schulamn. Bu,t I dislike seeing a bunch of 10-12 Black Belters "running around". Not to mention, a 3rd dan 13-yr old. Sure, if Dan means "man", that 13 year old sure didn't look like one.
  21. Back to the thread, did anyone notice were this mugging took place?
  22. I am not speaking in term of competition, per rules. I am speaking in terms of defense and application as one would do against spears, swords, and such. If we speaking competition wise, I have my stidents, per weapons forms, use commond "household items". Also, I have seen archaic knife defense mtehods as if the oppnent still will attack that way. No to mention some other defense methods. BTW, do you have website?
  23. Actually, didn't the Jaoanese "steal" karate and karate methods. For instance, the very Characters were changed from Tode to Karate. From what I've been told by my Okinawan grandmaster, the Japanese had used the islands to exchange goods (and karate) with mainland China. China was Japan's ancient rival. So to "save face", Japan used Okinawa. To that, Japan had "conqeured" Okinawa, which is still in their prefecture. Japan had made a lot of attempts to de-culturized and country/toen that they conquered. Such was the birth of TKD from Korea. TKD, from what I am told from my Korean master is relatively new.
  24. Viking women were not spirtied, were they?
