Hi Sai, I never thought of it like that. I'll be giving that a try. My knees would be grateful. In that stance I also feel it alot in my ankles when my toes are turned in. Any tips???

There are many ways to lose weight. None of them are easy. The only way is a lot of excercise and hard work. I used to be 230lbs on a 5'6 frame. I could not even touch my toes(or see them for that matter) . I started out with karate training 2x a week for 1 1/2hrs then worked up to 4x a week. In addition I started basic excersises in the am and pm 7 days a week push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks and stretching. I changed my eating habits (the term diet is too temporary). I basically believe it or not, eat a high carb low fat high vegtable diet. Red meat 1x a week chicken 3 a week I still eat bread, rice and pizza. I try to keep around 2000-2500 calories a day. The major difference is...... NO COOKIES,CAKE, ICE CREAM, CHIPS(well only on sunday ) and sugared beverages. Killed the beer intake as well. The result....... DOWN to 175 lbs. and its still off!!! My point is if a lazy overweight guy in his mid 30's can do it, so can you!!! It will be hard but take it a step at a time. Set a lot of short term goals to aim for. With every goal achieved it is a positive step in the right direction. You wont regret it. Good luck to you.

Someone always posts what their favorite kata, kick, punch or combo is. I was wondering which kata you guys do not like to do and why? I used to despise the Tekkis, now a couple of years later I practice them as much if not more than most of my others. They kind of grew on me. Now the ones I just cringe when I have to do is Hangetsu or Jitte. They just don't feel right to me...... Am I the only one.........

I feel pretty much the same. I've met many people and good friends through MA. When you train with a bunch of good people for a long time you become like family. As long as its still fun and I enjoy doing it MA are for me. I'm not sure about the life time committment............... You'll just have to ask me in 20yrs when I could be training my gradchildren.

Glucosamine / Chondroitin and tendon cramps in foot ?
shotochem replied to EvilTed's topic in Health and Fitness
Hi Guys, I've been taking Glucosamine for a few years now. I have only had positive effects from using it. I started out with Glucosamine sulfate and then started with chrodroitin as well. There was no difference. When I started taking MSM in addition to the Glucosamine, I felt an even bigger improvement in the old body. I generally take 1500mg of each daily split 1/2 in the morning 1/2 before I leave for class. As for the cramping I don't know the answer. I do know that there could be a problem for those with an allergy to shell-fish since many glucosamine products are made from them. -
We are at 60-40 men to women. A little bit outnumbered by the kids right now at about 2-1. The adults seem to come and go but we generally have the same group of us that have trained together for years.

Take out the Broom she's a goin' down!!!!! I just love a stationary and one legged target. -
I have both of Elmars books. The Advanced KD is great with a wealth of knowledge but it is certainly not light reading. The Bunkai book for the Tekki's is excellent, well explained and the illustrations made it easy to understand. I did not know he published his 3rd book. I think Ill check it out.

I'm "homeless" .... Help
shotochem replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What happened? I thought you were working in that dojang? You should check out you college Phys ED dept for a good on the cheap MA program. Most of the larger colleges offer MA. You could save a little cash and train between semesters at a school of your choice. We have a few members that do that. -
And that cat was outnumbered 3 to 1.

It is a hassle sometimes. One day I had to pick my son up from the school nurse when he wasn't felling well. The nurse took one look at the bruises on his forearms and shins and was all but going to call the police. That is until I explained that we trained in karate together and proceeded to roll up my sleeves and pants to show an identical brusing pattern. (mental note ....make kid wear arm and shin guards.....) She wasnt thrilled but at least it did not get blown out of proportion. It really was NOT funny at the time. Im safe for now he is bored with karate at the moment and has moved on to other activities. -
No matter how long you train it just happens. Some days my brain just takes a day or 2 off, other times the brain is good and the body is out to lunch. Then of course there are those days when it all comes together. The greatest thing is when you get a night where you are just ON and you just cant do anything wrong. I had a night like that. All through drills and sparring everything felt like it was going in slow motion around me. I just seemed to know what attacks were coming at me before they even threw them . I was untouchable!!! Unfortunately, that is not the case the other 99% of the time.

"Pain is Joy" I can feel your Joy . Im pretty much the same way. unless Im really hurting I give it a go and feel it the next morning. -
Anyone who says they dont occasionally back off on sparring is lieing Whenever you are too banged up to spar or are injured or even have somthing important in your every day life it is OK. MA are an activity we all do and enjoy. Family, health and your day job come first. The rest is just extra..... Congrats on your up coming marriage, may you have many happy years together. I always cry at weddings........

point well made. There are no reliable studies stating the negative effects of genetically modified food or irradiated meat nad veggies for that matter. People have been eating this stuff for years without any proven negative effects. I believe the increase in cancer has more to do with the advancemet of technology and the incraese of radiation from all our little toys than the food we eat. All in all we are alot better off today than 100 years ago before we invented all this stuff. We live longer healthier and more productive lives than our ancestors did, when the average homosapien tived to about 40yrs old max. I say better living through chemistry.

In our organization the brown belts need to know: Tekki Shodan Bassai Dai Kanku Dai Empi jion Jitte They are required for Shodan. The Brown belts also learn the others along with the black belts as long as they know the the others well enough.

http://www.iraqbodycount.net Tillman blah blah. How about the people that were bombed in their homes? Were they given an option to die "nobly?" The truth it often a matter of interpretation.......... http://www.slblogs.net/watcherofweasels/archives/000503.html

Fear not Delta, we all were alot like Beca. It time as you get older you begin to look at things very differently. We all have our own opinions. Lets not get into a political flamefest. This is an emotional issue, lets not all get angry at each other. (This is not an imposter. It is really Shotochem ) Politics and Religion are what I try to stay away from. I tend to rile too many people up .

We can only hope it will return. Its been down many times and has re-appeared on different servers. I hope Rob still has the will and time to fire it up again. It takes a lot of time and effort as well as money to operate a site. He has a life, a family and friends. I wish him the best whatever he chooses. His site is legendary and really opened my eyes. Thank You Rob And You Patrick for such a fine friendly site

That really sucks!!! You should suggest to them that the other guy get a drug test as well. If he tests positive you are off the hook and they are legally responsible for your saftey and well being in the work place. (Are you obligated by contract to take a drug test? Some unions will not allow it. Is drug testing a part of your company policy? These are your rights which many people gave their lives to defend, do not let them get tred upon.) It could lead to potential litigation due to their inability to provide a safe working atmosphere. Giving you a suspension on account of that guys irrational and criminal behavior is un-fair and possibly illegal. Of course if you really wanted to you could have him arrested for assaulting you. -
Sweep them!!! No matter how large the opponent, they can be swept.
