Has anyone noticed how irresponsible they have been lately. I have seen too many articles depicting various experts showing how to disarm someone with a handgun and believe it or not a shotgun. Is it me ....just hand over the wallet nobody really has much of a chance in these situations. I sincerly hope the young people who read this stuff do not try it. Money can be replaced a young life can't.

Treatment of Taliban prisoners - shaving them because they h
shotochem replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in General Chat
As I see it..... The taliban prisioners have better living conditions held captive by us than they did when they were out killling and opressing. We tend to take the rights of those fighting against our way of life and freedom into consideration more than we should. They do not belive in our freedoms or our rights. They only want to destroy what our many diverse peolples have fought to achieve. I know that we should serve as an example to the world of what they too con achieve, but if we are to continue as a society we have to make a few sacrafices due to the nature of the times we live in. If it means that a few hundred killers and enemies of the civilized world have to be inconvienced. So Be It !!! There are 4000 reasons why. Its not revenge that we seek... It is the freedom to live our lives in peace. There have been too many funerals here in New York there is only one that we are waiting for. OOPS! Girls what do you think?
shotochem replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In our dojo we have many women who can give men a good pasting. ( watch out Angus.. ) As for the " Raped by a pig comment" thats a little bit of an insult. I would tend to believe that our MA brothers would show the utmost respect for women, especially in the dojo. Anything else would be unacceptable. Where I train women are treated as equals and we would not have it any other way. Prod child try not to feel this way, if you can not trust and respect those you train with how can you enjoy the benifits of training. -

Sai, now all you have to do is teach the furry little one how to spar... My cat prefers to tangle with my belt(I have to remember to keep it in my bag) _________________ I'll leave the Zen to the Zen-Masters!!! Sai I was referring to the quick multiple punches described by Arahat. Hapki I totally agree a straight hard thrusting attack is great for closing distance and unbalancing an attacker. I prefer a good hard rear leg front kick followed by a reverse punch .

punching in the face in semi contact sparring

I dont know Sai, I think its good to take a few shots to the head every now and then. I call it mental calibration. It knocks some sense into me!!!! :weirdlook: -
I agree it can be very effective to blitz your opponent in such a manner. The only thing is that you have to be faster than him. Ive tried to strait blitz other karateka and a few of them had me for lunch. They just side stepped and countered. I guess Ill have to be quicker next time. It is not as effective on someone much larger than you.

Boris, Welcome. Dont give up. It will take time and effort but it is worth it. I started outalmost 2ys ago and I was really out of shape with no flexibility. I could kick knee high and I couldnt touch my toes. (I couldnt see them either) I have lost almost 50lbs I started 2 classes a week now I am up to 4. I feel better now than 10 yrs ago. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Good Luck, _________________ I'll leave the Zen to the Zen-Masters!!! Chi never blocked a kick....... [ This Message was edited by: shotochem on 2002-01-10 09:27 ]

Sai, I know what you mean. I was pretty hurting before the holidays because of overdoing it. A few extra days off and it feels like Ive gotten a new set of legs. Im trying to do more stretching to avoid any extra problems.

To be a little better each day. To finally RELAX!!! the shoulders...

We consider it a learning experience, we try to correct mistakes if that is the root cause of the problem. As for me Ive gotten hurt with either a poorly chambered kick or a mental lapse or two.

I havent had any serious injuries. A couple of broken toes and a broken finger along with the usual black and blues. I train 4 classes a week. Ive been hurt more outside the dojo than in it actually. Go figure???

I was just wondering ? Have you ever limped in to work or school the day after class? I think 90% of MA people have....the rest lied Have there been any studies on the long term effects of MA on the body? I know of a few with hip replacements ect... Maybe we could take a poll. What do you think?

In semicontact sparing, your control has to be good enough not to injure your partner. A good way to work on this is with a swaying heavy bag, try to make contact lightly while moving around it will also help with your timing and distancing. (Im still working on this. ) -
I can feel your pain Im a smaller guy too. I found that the side to side movement helps. I also will Trade a few shots with the bigger guys who try to maul me. It shows a little spirit and they tend to ease up a little if they were going too hard. Remember Pit-Bulls are small but they have TEETH.!!!!

How important is speed to you?
shotochem replied to Singularity's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I believe reaction time is also important. Without a quick reaction there is no counter strike or block Nothing improves your reaction time than getting hit. It makes you move quicker.
