  1. Mischievousjoe, I suggest you to read the Bruce lee's book "Tao of jeet kune do", it explains the idea behind this sparring posture you mentioned. The main thing in fighting stance is your comfortness and relaxation. About Jab, I guess you have to exchange it with quick back fist strikes.
  2. dear john :"im gonna add my two cents in and say that some and a limited few i might add are not very good MA's" Off the record, yes.
  3. " I have recently heard of a group of TKD masters, 7th dans up to 10th dans, who believe the pure traditional TKD has no effectiveness at all in combat. " 7-10th dans, a little bit late.
  4. I'd heard he only started martial art in order to play in a movie with Bruce Lee.
  5. I like 1-Cops gone wild 2- Rodney Jones II
  6. the most important thing is for your makiwara to be able to absorb the force and moves back a little bit, without this hard bouncing characteristic the force has to be absorb back %100 by your joints, this is something you don't want.
  7. the original horse stance which we call it Naihanchi dachi is not that wide as we see in kiba dachi, it’s even more like sanchin dachi , it creates a tension in thigh and abdomen that is a key to traditional okinawan karate, Kiba dachi that we use in Teki is very unnatural and I always feel pain in my knees after doing it especially in outer side of my knees. Could someone come in and explain the origin of kiba dachi?
  8. yah it's all kicks and punches and wrestling but without practicing he can't do it effectively. We had a 14 years old visitor last week, the son of a friend who was thinking the same way, his father dragged him to park where we practice Sundays, he kept up for 15 min warm ups and was making jokes, at the end of the drills was pretty tired but still was asking for a challenge match, we gave him 15 min. rest while we been doing kata and after that sensei asked me to work out with him, I told him to start hitting me from neck to knee, I was standing in a low sanchin dachi with my hands protecting my ribs, close thigh to protect the groin, I blocked him time by time but also let him to hit at least %50 of times, after 3 minutes he fell on the grass out of breath, I told him to come back next week for more hitting. Then we lined up in Naihanchi dachi for conditioning sensei was kicking to the thigh ,one left one right, not very hard though, He fell to the ground with the first kick, after he saw the class standing for more then 10 kicks, he was not a macho man any more ,he told sensei he wanna join the class. ask him to try a class with you.

  15. thanks K.K. , very good question though. from other hand I am disagree with "the correct answer" approach ,I picked up #3 as I explained as one of the answers, May be we could call it “the best answer” . I hope as you mentioned, Master Jules pays more attention to this kind of problems for the next question. Cheers,
  16. Ok I am not a master in MA so I feel free to skip the credential and background checking part. I do have a MS in mechanical Eng. which should be enough for this thread. 1- To Lower Your Body's Center Of Gravity. Yes it’s bring the center of gravity lower (in Y direction) ,how much? Depend on bending and your body structure, I would say between %1 to %3 2- To Allow Quick Change In Direction Of Movement. This is correct too, why ? I think the main reason is answer #3 3-To Distribute Your Body's Weight over the Center of the foot. When we bend the back knee, the center of gravity (in X direction) moves back so some of the weight moves to back leg(this facilitates the initiation of front foot movement) , also the force component of the weight on the back leg change from a point force on heel to a more uniform force from heel to ball of the foot which make the turns easier by decreasing the angular tension on the back knee joint.( this part is a little bit hard to explain since it’s a dynamics process from the time front foot start to move and the important moment of, center of gravity ,passing over the back foot to the time body turns and front foot sit at the new position) , 4- To Create The Coil And Spring-Off Effect Of An Action. I am not clear about this one and why you brought in the coil effect . by bending the leg you are increasing the potential energy in the back leg muscles which can be used for a quick motion ( not in all direction but in some directions). I would say, all of the above answers are part of a very bigger answer (body mechanics), and there is no absolute answer since all of them are some how connected together. But if you insist to choose one I have to choose #3.
  17. Gandhi, you should see it when you boot the computer before OS starts, normaly 'Delete' or "F10" or "Ctrl+S" . I found this software "net transport" very useful, have you seen sometimes you clik on a media file and they take you directly to windows media player and won't let you download (save as) the actual file, this software(free) can help you to download the actual media file.
  18. my shorin sensei started with TKD then kyokushin then Goju ryu at the end stayed with shorin-ryu (Nidan TKD and Goju, shodan KK and sandan shorin-ryu he stoped testing after 1985 , he got tired of belts, thats why he test us once a year)this is what he says as a joke: TKD : best M.A. joke KK: Handicaps production line Goju:How to breath for idiots Shorin:Hot to move for idiots
  19. “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others” from “Animals Farm” anyway I don't see any problem with KM question but I wish I could see his answer right after the question so we could discus.

  25. I just watched a tomari-chinto on the net , your crane stance is there too, so the history of this stance probebly goes to sensei kyan and his teacher kosaku matsumora.
