Looking for JKD instructor
Jbone1 replied to Wickedwayz's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Yeah he speaks about how things change and as Martial artist we should change also. Adapt, feel, react. -
Vito we don't need that crap from you. This board is one board we shouldn't have any type of talk like that. In a martial arts board I expect honor to all who come here. I am a Christian and I know God's power. I practice this with the gifts God gave me physically. I praise him for the opprotunity to have the time to train. So yes, we can and I don't see why it was asked in the first place because the only difference between a Christian and someone who isn't saved is Jesus' blood covering us. Oh Bruce was not a Christian. His philosphy was about having your own light and not needing to lean on anyone or have anyones help. In an interview he mentioned he doesn't need the light of Christ because he has his own. But who knows he could have meant it in a totally different way. But the fact remains is we do need Christ' light in order to see in this dark world.

Capoeira....what do you guys think of it as Combative?
Jbone1 replied to Jbone1's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I seen my first live demo yesterday. It wasn't the fast high flying style but the roots of Capoeira. The slower and more ground work. The music was great and just a great environment hearing the music played and watching the game. -
I'm trying to find a pair for a decent price. I'm running a little low on cash so I'm looking for a pair for a good price. Anyone help me out? Thanks...

From a documentation on Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee: "To set the record straight, I have Not invented a new style, composite, modified or otherwise; that is, set within distinct form and laws as apart from "this" style or "that" method. On the contrary, I hope to free my followers from clinging to styles, patterns, or moulds. So do remember that the term Jeet Kune Do is merely a name used, a mirror in which we see ourselves. The name brand is nothing special." -Bruce Lee There ya have it a written quote by the man himself. -

I got a little confused by your post. Bruce blended certain things to create what is known as JKD. Fencing, Chinese boxing, boxing, juijitsu, wing chun, and other things. Dan Isanto had his hand in it also as one of the originators. But Bruce meant that we express ourselves as an individual. Yes we have foundation in the Martial Arts but we find our way through the art by expressing ourselves. -
Thanks man

Your right and I think it takes people who are one with their body. They can control thier bodies in ways that are crazy. But I read and this art is for anyone. Seeing all the crazy and beautiful moves are for those gifted enough to do so. But this art can be done by anyone any shape or size. -

I think we all get the need for instruction point. That's pretty common sense don't ya think? At least I hope we all think that. By knowing ourselves, our physical capabilities and limits we should be able to choose a style or system that is a good foundation. Good roots for our tree. Then we branch off from there but we must have deep roots. -

Exactly^^ Bruce didn't want to put a label on it so people are saying it's a certain style. -

Well that's what your doing. But by saying your training JKD your saying I'm training in Bruce Lee's way. Bruce had his methods of Wing Chun, Chinese Boxing and such. Just make sure you find someone who follows Bruce's principles close. Because there was a falling out about whos doing it right and whos doing it wrong. Once again why Bruce didn't want to put a label of JKD on it. We also don't hold on to the JKD name. -

Like I was saying it's a way a journey. Those under Bruce were taken on a journey with him but I don't think they grasped what he was doing. Remember how back then people were in one school or style and stuck to it? Bruce opened doors with that by not being just in one fixed style he did't believe in it. Martial Arts is so broad how can we truely love it and express ourselves in it if we close our eyes to all but one system? Well, take make it simple my school is considered JKD. My instructor goes to Dan Insantos syminar every year in Waterloo Indiana. He does PHillpino knife fighting and Kali stick demonstrations. He spoke with someone about how we are an open school to many arts. He said well you guys are basically JKD. We go with what works and flows. My instructors believe is "Hard Flow, Soft Flow, Universal Flow." Martial Arts isn't just hard it's soft and they can be hard and soft liek Kenpo. We have are basis and our foundations but we venture in all systems. -

Search the net for Capoeira it's easy to find. 47MartialArtman good post. With another system Capoeira would be really affective. Just in the jinga there are hand attacks from other systems that would be nice to use. -

Ok heres my thoughts on JKD. Notice this Bruce would rather teach already seasoned Martial Artist. Why? Because he wanted to show them a way that didn't restrict them to just their system and fixed positions they were taught. He wanted to show the a way were you feel and react not just do an exact fixed positional move. Bruce studied many arts and he wasnt' done dying early at 32 or 33. He didn't even want to slap the name JKD on his way and philosophy because he knew what it would turn into today like the silly arguments we have now. You need a foundation in Martial Arts whether it's Tae Kwon Do, Wing Chun, Kung Fu, Capoeira, Ninjitsu, Karate, or whatever. His way was no one way why not dabble in all of what I listed above and more to be able to express yourself as an individual. We are all built different physically, mentally, and spiritually. So why not learn the arts that would fit you to be a great Martial Artist and fighter. -
Capoeira....what do you guys think of it as Combative?
Jbone1 replied to Jbone1's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It gets bashed because what most people see is the Roda/game. I had many discussions about that. The game is beautiful but what people don't understand is that the moves are within it they just don't do some because it' messes up the rhythm. -

Nice story that's tight. I got a dvd and it shows a lot. More than just the beauty of the roda but the effectiveness of combat. -

Yeah that's what I read in that book. They would put razors in their toes back in the day and do throws with their legs. Roda, the game is awesome and something I can watch over and over. -
