  1. In my opinion, Shotokan Karate is sort of lesser in deadliness in than other Karate Styles. But I also think that it is much greater than the other arts of Karate in many ways. For example, I think that it highers the chance of getting into a fight with a better state of mind than the other styles of Karate. I also think that the techniques of Karate are better than any of the others(I do not know this for a fact) As I said before, I think that Shotokan highers the chance of getting into a fight with the right attitude. This attitude comes from the common Principals of Shotokan Karate: The Code of Karate-Do.
  2. OK, I have seen that peope have al sorts o dierent styles of Karate they wish to be on their list. I shall put them on.
  3. Yes, everyone feels like this every once. You must pull yorself together!
  4. I dont believe that you have to be over 16 to be a Black Belt. It depends what age you start training from. But I am 14 and I am taking my Black Belt this September. So you can take your Black Belt under 16.
  5. Which style of Karate do you think is the best? I think that Shotokan is.
  6. I think you are right in saying that it would be best in learning how to grapple and strike. When you said the part about killing your opponent in one hit, I do not think that is entirely the right thing to do. I mean I may be a softy, but I wouldn't want to KILL my opponent. I would rather knock him out. Moving on though, I think that the Philosophical Bruce Lee saying is very accurate in the way it describes fighting in general. As it says "Water can also crash" that is the striking power but it also says water can grapple. I think that the old argument between grappling and striking is all just people protecting what they believe they should do in an argument. Common sense would tell you that Grappling and Striking are both very useful. That is why Karate is a good thing to study.
  7. I am feeling a bit confused on what Leg stretches I should do to be able to kick very high and hold my leg there. Like when you do Miageri, and hold the thrust out, you feel the strain in your thigh area. Should I keep this strain up to strengthen my legs? Or should I try another method. I can already hold my leg out at a height of about choodan. But it causes me a lot of pain and I would like to know how to strengthen your legs to make doing this easier.
  8. Hi, I have been wondering how people prefer to do the splitz. Well, my sensei told me that you should do it in a way where your hips are forward, I was doing it in a way were my hips were back and I was sort of leaning backwards and sitting into it. I was wondering if their is a right and wrong way to doing it. Is the way I do it now better than the way I used to, I am not going to disagree with what my sensei said, I am just wondering.
  9. I wear a Standard Gi at the moment, but soon I may buy a sovereign or a kamikaze.

  15. Hi, I was just wondering what the name of Bruce Lee's Martial Art was? I remember watching a program about his Martial Art and he said a Karate punch is "Like an Iron Bar" and a (Dont know the name of his style) Ounch is like a ball with a chain on the end. So will someone refresh my memory please and tell me the name of that style.

  17. I would say I would rate myself using the style of rsating I have seen when judges mark kata in competitions. Personally I would say that on a good day I am about 6.2.

  19. Hello to anyone who goes to the Red Triangle Karate club. Or knows about it. I have heard that I am not the only person to be on these Forums along with my friend who also goes to the Triangle. So Hi! To anyone that knows me!
  20. Yes, I think that since I started Karate I have definitely improved my character in many ways. First of all, I used to doubt my ability in my other Martial arts and that I always used to be very angry when a problem arisen and i never used to resolve it in a peaceful way. But now that I have started Shotokan Karate I am more at peace with what I do and I am more relaxed. Shotokan is really a way of life not just a Martal Art.
  21. Does anyone reading this come from the Red Triangle?
  22. Thank you, I do know o a competition coming up in Barnsley in October called the northernm regions, if you get a KUGB year plannner then you can find out most of the goings on. Pus you get to find out things if you attend courses and ask inportant people. I am lucky, My trainers are very amous people so I have no problem in getting information passed on to me. That is, i they think I can cope!
  23. Hi, recently actually a Saturday the fifth of June, I entered a competition in Liverpool near Sefton Park. I entered for kata and Kumite. I am a Brown and double White belt. In Kata, I got knocked out in the Quarter Finals. My stances were far too high and short on some moves, I am ususally much better than that. Anyway, in Kumite it is a whole different story. I got adevice off of a more experienced friend and I had been thinking along the same lines too. He told me to stick to basics, Kizame Zuki + Gyaku Zuki. You know, the "One Two". It is highly effective. Well anyway, I beat my first opponent easy using that. He was a Brown and Double White belt. In all of my other fights I had Black belts I beat them, landing myself a place in the semi finals. In the semi final, I had planned it all out. As soon as the ref said "Hijime" I ran at my opponent and Gyaku Zukied him off of the mat. I got an Ippon the first and best of the day. Plus a rouond of applause. In the final I would have won if i had of shouted Kiai but I didnt i hit him lots more times than he hit me, but he won. I am very pleased with my result.
