lol! I guess that's true. I'd hope they have a way of adjusting how fast the rounds came out. -

Just imagine... 2,000 rounds put into you in 1 second. -

True. I'd join the military just to fire one of those... -
^^^ exactly. Though I've heard of some kickboxing schools being tougher than certain Muay Thai schools. Again, it depends upon the organization and the instructors.

I wonder how much it would hurt to get hit by that at close range... -
But, I there's three stages to any learning, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Therefore, at least three belts. IMO of course.

Judo was the first style to use the belt system at all. It really should be just one stage for beginner (white), one stage for intermediate (brown), and one stage for advanced (lower dan ranks of black). Unfortunately my school is white-yellow w/ stripe- yellow-orange with stripe-orange-blue with stripe-blue-green with 2 stripes- green with 1 stripe- brown with 2 stripes-brown with1 stripe-black

Learning BJJ cannot have a negative impact upon your MA training. If you want it for self defense, then knowng BJJ will help you defend yourself against your attacker if he knows BJJ, you'll know what he might try on you. And if by some chance he CAN bring you down to the ground, you'll know how to get him into a position so you can get back up.

BJJ and JJJ
CapitalKarate replied to Matrix0978's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Would it not be worth it to train in both? I would think if you did, maybe add in Muay Thai, you'd get one hell of an art there. -
Sounds good, as long as the student is learning from an instructor, I'm way against learning from books or tapes.

What type of clothing do you guys where outside the dojo when you have a choice as to what you wear? As for me, I usually wear baggy jeans of some kind (very easy to move around in... when on my waist, not my hips), a t-shirt/polo shirt and indoor soccer shoes (adidas samba millenium, great for soccer and quick powerful kicks!).

K.I.S.S.... That's gotta be someones sig. Off topic but, MuayThaiBoxer... I think you misspelled taekwondo in your "styles".
-
Of the classes I've been looking into, $35 a month (serious teacher, not in it for the money), $50 a month, $85, and $100.

I'd say go into boxing to learn how to defend yourself against boxing punches, or at least, learn how boxers think, and find a way to counter it. The best way to counter an art is first to learn the art you wish to counter.

Does horseback riding help at all for conditioning of any kind?

Does the stripe go on the right or left?
CapitalKarate replied to grd's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think there is a certain side it goes on in my dojo, but as aefibird's sensei is, my sensei doesn't care which side it goes on. -
Iron Palm, Iron Claw, Two-Finger Zen, etc
CapitalKarate replied to scottnshelly's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A lot of those conditioning skills for your body (I said a lot, not all) were used because war/fighting was inevitable for most part. And so they strived to be the best they possibly would be. Today times are different, we aren't training for hand to hand combat in war like you would have been in the first millenia, so a lot of these techniques aren't needed for todays world. There are probably more important things we need to do with our hands that we couldn't do later in our lives if we damage them now. -
List of most deadly martial arts
CapitalKarate replied to TKDguy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Very true, but at the same time those were arts that were used against common weapons of the day. Kendo would hardly be practical against someone with a gun. Deadly arts are whatever teaches you how to counter a weapon or approach common to that time period so that you can kill your opponent. In that case, I'd try to master the gun and knife and stick, and take some kind of course (like krav maga) that has been proven to be effective against todays weapons. If any of that makes sense. -
I'm sorry MTboxer, but I really have no idea what you said.. or more like mean't, could you reword it? or use punctuation?

CQB- very informative post! I wish I were training in your school... o well, I believe I've found which school I'm training in. There's 3 schools (possibly 4 if the guy ever calls me back) that I have been seriously looking into, A Kajukenbo school (he proved his lineage back to emperado and is very impressive, and I've wanted to take kajukenbo for a while now so here's my chance..) a MMA school for modern fighting and conditioning. And a matsubayashi shorin ryu school for pure traditional training. I'll be having shorin ryu as my main art to advance in as much as possible with kajukenbo and mma on the side (though getting only just a little bit less attention then shorin). I'm psyched now, can't wait to move!
