thx guys, to be honost never even heard of kenjutsu or bushido , somebody said there was a kendo school nearby so i just started taking intrest.
-
Since you're talking about katanas, i also got a question about it Is Kendo (the art where you fight with those wooden sticks and wear some sort of armor if i'm not mistaken) the same art which eventually teaches you to fight with katanas?

Strange, asking a question only you can really answer. Nobody here knows you better then yourself (i hope ) -
What title does your instructor have?
sAtelitte replied to Gumbi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Half of the people in my group call the instructer "sifu" (like it should be) and the other half by his first name. First i adressed him as sifu as well until one time: i couldn't figure out one form and i asked him for help, after saying "sifu" four times he didn't respond (he was only 3meters away from me so he could hear me perfectly), said his first name and he immediatly came over and helped me. Got the message -
http://www.ashleybeck.com/help.htm Credits for this link go to legion though, but i thought i'd post it here cause it's the answer to your question

I've heard people say that they know someone who could be my identical twin. Would be cool to fight him although i do hope he does MA. Think it would be a mayor disoppointment if i could beat him to easly. As for famous people, perhaps keanu reeves, i would want to know if he truly does got some skill or it's just all movie magic, or perhaps this Seraph guy from the matrix. (Just watched the movie, anyone noticed? )

There's a move in shaolin kung fu which pretty much matches that discriptions, it's used in one of the animal forms called the bat. It requires a little running start though to get some speed before you actually jump. We have to know this one for our next grading so i'm practicing it as well, if i get that move to work i'll let you know. I don't know the name of the actual kick though, these animal forms usually contain more then one kick so the name "bat" doesn't apply to the kick itself

Once heard this one actually being used: "I think i'll go to the church and thank god for creating a fine being like you" (roughly translated to english cause it was originaly in dutch) To my surprise he didn't get slapped, she did walk away though. This coming from a guy who really thought that he was the man, guess he really needed a lesson in modesty (and a biology lesson would't hurt too ).

Ironberg, then next time she can come in bikini outfit so i can really put my mind to the test seriously, i would like more girls in our group, makes things more intresting (and not in the way described above). Already did a small sparring exercise with one of those girls and she hit to my surprise pretty hard, making the exercise a real intresting one.

Side split about one feet away probably not even that much. front split definitely more then a feet away. Never actually tried the third way But i'm only doing MA for three months so splits weren't a priority before, and still got plenty of time to improve

Out of the 30 people in my group, there are about 4 women in it of which only one shows up every training Then again one of them is really cute (think she's about 24, long blonde hair, athletic body,...) and if she ever shows up my concentration tends to drop a few notches . So perhaps it's better for me if she doesn't show up that much

My finals start within two weeks, also college. The most crappy thing about them: Finals start 29 may until 18 june, Kung fu grading 5th june. Smack in the middle of the finals i'm supposed to advance to my next belt, if i had the time i would have been able to pass the grading but obviously now i don't No other choice then to forfait my grading and now i'm forced to wait another 4 to 6 months for the next grading, great isn't it Anyway, good luck to you all with your finals

How long ... ?
sAtelitte replied to Legion's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
That doesn't go for the school where i go (almost the complete opposite even), from day one we get to see the traditional animal and shaolin forms, a few locks and the basics for fighting with the staff. That's pretty much it until you advance to white or yellow sash. Again i don't know how the trainings are at legion's school but if it's anything like here it will take a longer while to be able to defend yourself. For the record, i didn't start with shaolin kung fu with the intention that i want to be able to defend myself as soon as possible. I've grown very fond of the forms so our training schedule is good from my point of view. Although i'd have to admit that i miss a little sparring, kicking draven chen zhen * would be great . -

I don't know how your grading system works but if you started out with a white belt or no belt (like the system i follow) Orange belt seems to be awfully fast in three months to me. i can't really answer your question cause of my situation: I currently hold no sash and i'm doing Kung fu for three months just like you. I figure i'll have my white sash somewhere in oktober or november, then yellow and i'm not even thinking about orange (probably in a year or two). Anyway in my opinion it takes a lot of time to be good at kung fu (matter of years), a lot of forms and moves you have to know and each form has soooooo many details you have to be aware of. -
My first experience with women and MA: During a training i had to pair up with a girl (who was new to the scene and struck me as someone who was afraid to brake a nail). We had to do an excercise where we had to hit each other hard on the arms in order to strenghten them. So naturaly i was annoyed cause i thought that she was barely going to hurt me. After 10 minutes both my arms really hurt and were quite bruised Learnt my lesson there not to underestimate the female martial artists, not even the beginners

same minority here Won't see a tattoo or piercing on my body, you like them or you don't i guess Lately been surprised more then once by girls whom i never suspected that they'd have tattoos, on those well hidden spots: all the way down on their back, and on the opposite side just above the leg (this on is only for boyfriends eyes i suppose )

Belgium, for those who don't know the small country next to France, England, Netherlands and Germany SO what i can i say about it, almost the same weather as the UK, twice invaded by germany (in WW2 it took them about two days to conquer and secure the whole country ), Brussels sprouts, jean-claude Van Damme,... guess i'm not much of a nationalist

Antiloop, delerium, chicane and Robert miles are also great for trance. and what is wrong with DJ tiesto draven? I bought his cd nyana somewhere in the beginning of march and the little plastic disc's (double cd) haven't left my cd-player since

When & Why To Fight or Surrender?
sAtelitte replied to bigpopparob2000's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i would rather surrender then die fighing if a guy pulled a gun on me i think i'd never even consider an attack. Just because in reality, i would be scared to death. Also the fact that shaolin kung fu doesn't handle any gun threats (a real pitty that those robbers who lived a thousand years ago didn't have any firearms ) makes me want to comply more As for the co-worker, i'd probably let the BG take her. Perhaps it makes me look like a coward but i think i (or she) would get hurt in any other option anyway. -
yes, although i believe it's rare So many people i know which had a relationship that lasted for years, and truly believed they had found true love, then suddenly find themself single again
-
Easter break on such short notice is impossible for me but if you guys were ever to get together in the summer and enough people decide to come then i would be willing to make the little trip to london.
-
People who made the matrix just figured "we'll get a pretty face to do the talking and let the computers deal with MA stuff" (you can see the parts which are computer animated btw) I heard keanu took kung fu lessons for 3 months or so just before they started filming... but that probably just focused on the moves he had to do during the movie

TKD vs. Savate
sAtelitte replied to Ironberg's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
As it happens a saw a documentary on savate few days ago From what i saw there it looked indeed a lot like kickboxing, although they seemed to focus mainly on distracting the opponent, they could really hit you on places where you never saw it coming. Another thing is that the style also includes a weapon, some sort of walking cane they use like you would use a sword in fencing. What the documentary also said was that savate was used alot by the french rich class around 1900 to protect them against muggers. So i wouldn't underestimate savate on the street. Anyway thats all i know and it isn't much but hope it helps a little -
Here you pay 10€ a training, 165€ for four months and about 400€ for one year We have 3 trainings a week with 20 other students on average and a really good sifu that guides us, all and all a pretty good deal i think btw i pay for four months. So there you got all the numbers
