  1. If you don't compete heavily in Point tournments your school lacks the true spirit of martial arts. and your system and teaching are incomplete. Thank you, That is All The Mushu!
  2. I stay with my statement those who understand it would get the joke. Those don't well. Thats okay its an inside joke any way. Agian I stay with my statement. Sam pai Kenpo can hit harder then tyson. -Jeff
  3. Oh and don't get worked up when I troll for BJJ. I did come to find this site off of a MMA forum by the way. So when I get bored. I do troll. One of the reasons why one of the threads I made about BJJ being the best style there. Got locked up. lol! Do I believe it. Not at all. I am just getting a rise out of people out of boredom don't take me seriously if I say MMA or BJJ is the ultimate or in similiar manner. Take care my Shorin Ryu friend. -jeff
  4. No Mr. Sandoval isn't my teacher out right. I been to several of his seminars and talked to him numerous times on the phone. I know he trained Ron Lindsey. I seen Ron on the tapes I was shown of Mr. Sandoval's Seminars. My instructor is larry Naranjo. He has been with Mr. Sandoval the longest when Mr. Sandoval Lived in Arizona. This was back in 92 until currenlty. He is in charge of all the White Crane stuff for Tony. https://www.sandovalkaratekobudofederation.com is his website. When I get statioined at Ft. benning I would end up training with Mr. Sandoval. If I don't get deployed. He currently resides in GA. Yeah I know white Crane is a good system. But like any thing you got to find the right teacher. I am sure you seen quite a few Shorin Ryu teachers who are well....less then exceptable. So over all becaue of Mcdojo's TMA has got a bad rep. Very few good teachers. -jeff
  5. Not really I only met a few who could kick my *. Least the ones I met. I am sure there are alot of other maratial art women who could beat me down. But its not that they can kick my *. Its cause we have the same passion. They can kick * in general. There bodies look better do to excercise. Those are the main reasons. -Jeff
  6. Nothing wrong with that I have done that before when I helped my instructor teach at his school. Nothing wrong with that as long as the guy doesn't use his postion to grope the female up or harrass her in any way in sexual since. But doing that I have had some good conversations and some fun dates by starting off pairing up wiht the cuter girls. Which is also good for them because if there cool I am more willing to share infomation. -Jeff
  7. Besides most BJJ aren't good at take downs to be honest. Alot of them jump to guard. This is why you get people like Megaton Diez who is a bb in Judo. Or you get people like BJ penn and others who work on wrestling to improve there take downs. -Jeff
  8. It can be good or bad depends on the orgainzation. I remember going to tourments this one orgainzation host. Some pretty biased juging for there own school or schools. Sand bagging compitors. Meaning having an advanced student put in an intermediate braket or a begginer one so there school can get more trophy's and recognition. Whoop dee dooo. I mean you will see that at any tourment y ou go to if you hang around long enough. but at this paticular orginzations tournaments it was to rampent. Stopped going to do those. -Jeff
  9. Thank you Don't mean to offend any one.
  10. Nothing like silky smooth legs to impresse the judges after forms competion. Me I just show up in spedo's and a gi top. Gives my Kata/forms/poomse a more dramatic effect especially showing off some leg I am garenteed to get 1st place. I think its that or maybe its my impressive kata. Glock pistol kata one. At the end of the form I point at the juges and say I await your score for some reason the get a little nervous. I think the whole form just impressed them so much or maybe it was my legs and pedicure that did it that they gave me 1st place each time. oh well.
  11. Try hitting a bag or Makiwara even better. You hit and go through and the punch isn't pulled back after you made some pentration contract you will feel the viberation shock go back into your body meaning you are taking some of the energy and shock your self. You pull back and it stays there at the makiwara board. Which has more effect. Some terms they say it causes more of an emplosion on the body which is what I heard from Parker Kenpoist weathe its true or not I don't know. All I know is it works as for causing more pain. Techniically you can do both if applied right. What ever works for you . -Jeff
  12. Again Ron I don't know much on diffrent types of energy. If you want more info. Try e-mailing Mr. Sandoval to get more info. His e-mail is on his website. -Jeff
  13. Tell your friend to study some combat Ki so he can channel his internal energy down there so it won't hurt. The next time your friend kicks him there. Or seriously the cup I idea is the best solution. only worse part is any one got scoop kicked to the groin before kind of like an instep kick coming up but as contact is made the foot is hooked back. Wear a cup almost seems worse. lol! becuse it pulls on the cup in motion were the cup actually hooks on and pulls the genitals which hurts quite a bit more. That one sucks really bad! -Jeff
  14. Find a balance between the two. But you will find insructors that do both. Others that do one extreme or the other. That are heavily into tournmets or totatly against them and just say there art "remainse pures" and for self defense only. -Jeff
  15. Most effective style, hmm good question in each style, there is invidual style or interprestation of the style they are being taught in that regard your instructor has his own likes or strong points in his curriculum which then passes off to you the student. This is why people from the same style can tell who's student is who. you got to make your style work for you. In that regards training training training. But depends on what your looking for. You want to do self defense there are plenty of good styles out there. Whats important is you the student and how well you can grasp and perform the concepts nad techniques and put them in a more real training experience. Also is important is finding a good quality instructor who empasizes what your looking for and needs. So what are you looking for? Self defense, sport competion, or something else? -Jeff
  16. hope I did enough past conditioning on my fingers and toe to build up to do that. Also mosly important if I am goign to do that toe kick I hope I got it algined right and take the angle right or. Snap, crackle, pop any body want Rice Krispies. lol! -Jeff
  17. When I first started out in training I was also learning the bo I would take the bo at night nad practice the moves to the air. I did it at night because not as many people were around. Those that did pass by gave me strange looks. Geee...I wonder why? lol! Again probably not the answer your looking for. -Jeff
  18. Agreed with Sasori_Te. There is no hiddin techniques persay in Kata. It may only seem hidden or secret what I mean is if your not exposed to it because your teacher hasn't got you there yet or doesn't know him/her self. What one person may think is a new and invoting and outsanding secret technique another practioner thinks is common knowledge becaues they been doing it for years. For example my first studying of Shaolin Kempo my instructor didn't know much of the bunkai of the kata. Don't get me wrong he was still a good fighter and had quite a bit of knowlege on joint locks and ohter such stuff as well as striking. But until one of Tony Sandovals students came who was excellent martial artist. He helped expose to him what the movements in his forms could be. It opened my instructors eyes to see more possiblities. He then took the knowlidge of diffrent techniques he learned and seen and trained with other people in and can incorporate more bunkai into his forms as well as get a bit of more conepts in his training. I my self switched to that instructor under tony because thats the type of training I prefer. I liked the focus on concepts and working these ideas. Every part of a form had some concept you can put to it. Rooting your weight, picking it back up, body alignemnt, breathing, Each movement in Kata weather big or smalll can be multipe applications nad when you take the movement from the kata to work for bunkai if the movement is big you don't have to apply it big you can make it small, medium or big. Making several applications for one move. Kata is a refrence for concepts and application of technbiuces to practice and perfect. What alot of people were exposed to though is Kata Acting, the tourment type karate with the loud kia's and Kata training to impress the judges that they haven't been exposed to real Karate. So to a point I believe kata is important to a karate system. Is it needed to make a good fighter? No! But if you like doing like the mental part of karate such as the application training. Its great. But I believe concept training and application is at the heart of karate. Because the concepts is what gives the Kata substince with out it Kata is useless its just an egg shell with no egg in it. worth less. Unless you want to look at it at art stand point or something that looks of beauty to you. But that is in the eye of the beholder. Just my thoughts. -Jeff
  19. I Self - Ron Lindsey is your instructor then in Shorin Ryu?
  20. It happens, long as it wasn't untentional I don't see the problem. Tell your friend to work on his chambering of his knee. lol! -Jeff
  21. No I am not going for those schools just curious of the diffrence. I don't know to much about TSD I watched a couple classes in passing by a dojang one time. Outward apperace looked the same as the TKD training I have seen before. So I thought I would ask. Thank you so much for the information. -Jeff
  22. That would be me. White Crane has excellent concepts. Do I feel it will make you be able to fight fast No! Do I feel it is worth learning absolutely, because the concepts can tie in nicely but to be able to perform them takes alot of practice to get one concept down and to build off of them. So long Run white crane is were I want to go I train both MMA type and White crane. How do you say I am dissing. I seen very few actually highly good Karate ka. So compared to MMA to Karate ka if you want to go that rought more MMA are prepared for fighting. Using suprise goes both ways so that is really invalid point. You can be the best at what ever you do. But if you get caugh of guard you can be easily dead. We aren't invincible. I know who Kise is he is okay. One of my instructors trained in him. You heard of Anthony Sandoval, he is a very outstanding martial artist. I know you want to sound your horn right now maybe you seemed irriated about all this. but realiy is you compare most average MMA artist to Karate ka MMA has far more advantage there are those few karate ka because of how they train that are the exception. So again tell me how I am dissing what it stands for? -Jeff
  23. Back to basics the form San He were you do the double spear strike so to speak. drop the palms and then strike again. From the diffrence between a long strike and short stirke. Interesing how to get the body moving with the feet. Usually I started doing big rocking type motions with my feet. hills coming off the ground. Just to get used to moving the weight more. Intersting form. I like the more simple ones. San He, Hakutsuru So and Ton. -Jeff
