  1. Guiness of course!! How about Moretti?
  2. Never, I do not spar full contact anyhow and I practice since almost 1 year.
  3. Welcome to KF.
  4. I adopt this simple rule that I have learned from my former weightlifting instructor. I eat mosly carbs and fruits at lunch and mostly protein at dinner. If you feel you need more protein add a protein additive at breakfast. Never more than 30 g of protein per meal. BTW krounchyfrogg what's the South Beach diet?
  5. As a student I would accept the downgrading. If my skill level is inferior to the same ranks in the new school there is no point to keep the same color which anyway if does not reflect an effective skill is just a 'color'.
  6. Welcome.
  7. In my opinion the victim should have worn his mmm... protector, and you... I mean your friend... should be not too embarassed, things like that happens. Are there any serious consequences? If not your friend should learn the lesson and wear the appropriate protections.
  8. There are lots of ways you can use your heavy bag. My favorite is 3 (or 2 if you have not enaugh endurance) minute round 1 minute rest free sparring. It is a good idea to mark average groin (or belt) level and average face level with sticky tape.
  9. I still remember b/w TV my family turn to color-TV in 1977 when I was 16. Yep the wold in black and white has the charme of old things and old memories. Very fashinating. Thanks Shorinryu Sensei for taking us back to our childhood.
  10. Welcome to KF.
  11. Hello, I like all kind of music except folk and country.
  12. Which book?
  13. The answer to this question is related to the original purpose of why are you practicing MA. If you do it to become a professional fighter or you are frequently exposed to situations where self defence is important ( I'm talking about Police officers, people living a bad suburbs or similar situations ) I think you better expose yourself to full-contact. If you are (like I am ) a reecreational Martial pratictioner (I don't consider myself an artist at least not yet) that does martial art for fun and to have all the internal and fitness benefit, well it is better not to risk injuries and go for light contact or even no contact. This is my two eurocents anyway.
  14. Yes, you don't have to fight in turnements if you don't want to. And in my school you have the chance not to spar full contact if you don't want. Anyhow a certain level of contact is necessary. In almost one year of practice I hurt myself only once (not seriously just I had to stop training for 3 weeks luckly it was just before Xmas) to a toe for a round kick badly landed.
  15. I'm rather skeptical about learning a MA with books. You better find yourself a school follow the lessons and then you can practice at home and also get extra advices from books. To learn a MA you need a teacher to see if your movement are correct and classmates to apply the technique. This is why you cannot learn by yourself. Best luck and welcome to KF.
  16. Hi, it seems you have found a very good teacher in your art. Best compliments to you and him.
  17. ...Yes for this reason going on a diet in italy is harder then anywhere else. Thank you for the warm wlecome.
  18. I have just bought the book Dynamic Strength by H.Wong. I think that the basic principle is ok but I am worried about using two antagonist muscles at the same time gives you the bad habit to remain tense in actual martial art training while you should, during a hit, use only the muscles involved and relax the others. I have the problem of remaining too tense during combo practice and sparring and I am worried that practicing dynamical strength exercises will worsen my problem. I would like your opinion. Thanks.
  19. I started because I wanted to find a way to get fit having more fun then lifting weight or attend an aerobic class, then other reasons came but the original idea was that.
  20. I agree not to remove the martial part from MA and make it become just like any other form of physical exercise. This is the reason why in MA there is more fun (IMO anyway) than in aerobics or weight lifting etc. The thing in which I agree with koreantiger81 is that street effectiveness is not the key point for everybody and it should not be the only criteria on how to judge a MA. Yes in the end everyone has his own reason I agree also on this.
  21. Yes indeed, martial arts for me is a way to keep fit and have fun at the same time. It is also an interesting human and cultural experience. I have never been involved in street fight or in aggression in my life (I'm 42). So personal defence capability is just an extra bonus, not the main reason.
  22. In principle I would say Jujitsu because is the only grappling style you mention. If you need to cross-train a striking art like Muay Thai it seems better to go for a grappling art. But on the end: do what you like more, try the lessons and see how you feel with the art, the instructor and also the classmates.
  23. I have read that in a poster in Switzerland. Heaven is where: Chefs are French Lovers are Italians Policemen are English Mechanics are Germans and everything is organized by Swiss. Hell is where: Chefs are English Lovers are Swiss Policemen are German Mechanics are French and everything is organized by Italians. Just a Joke (no offence).
