About the name of the techniques you'll find plenty of info under the net, this site shows also short videos for some of the tecniques: techniques with videos About the test every school has it's own way to test, for the first test we do the test in 3 parts, kihon, kata and bunkai and from the second test onward we also add kumite, but as I told you it depends on the schools. Best luck for the test.

Students need help[
italian_guy replied to mafia's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I totally agree, the forms has too many details to be learnt from a video, and also someone should watch also how you make the movement if you are relaxed or fluind, if you have proper timing, proper weight balance... it is too complicated to learn it from a tape even more complicated then any external MA. Hi Zhong Gau you listed Tui Na among your styles.. isn't that chinese massage? -

With this I fully agree. I only blame him for his attitude, he forgot that MA is to avoid conflict ... but I agree that is also to defend yourself when the conflict becomes unavoidable. Best luck to you SS (even if is too late, aahh those timezones if the earth was flat and still we would not have needed them however.... ) -

I do not agree with you (delta1) about OK04's situation, here's what he said: I think this attitude is not very correct if you want to try to solve peacefully a conflict. About SS I'm a little more tolerant... he did not too hurt his opponent except on his ego, ... and maybe that time he deserved it! -
Good website for anyone interested in Dim Mak

Amazing site. Thanks a lot!!!! -
I fully believe in pre-emptive striking if you are sure that the situation has escalated that far. Why let someone mess up my face before I react? I'm against pre-emptive striking... how can you be sure that before the first puch is thrown that you can't deescalate? if you strike first you'll never know. with this I agree.

I think you are right to consider it a delicate matter. My opinion is the following: concerning kids or children if the sensei notice some violent behaviour I think he should talk with parents first... once or several times if necessary... if the kid continue in his bad behaviour he may consider the idea of not teaching the kid something that the kid is not able to use properly. Concerning adult behaviour the sensei cannot be considered a life style teacher, however he is still the haed of club or an association... if he notice that someone (in a very extreme case) behave so badly that his association or club can have bad reputation for this he has the right in my opinion to complain with the student or even to expell him from the school.

The fact that you know you did the wrong thing and feel ashamed is a positive thing. You lost your self-control and you paid all the consequences. I think this is a good lesson for the future, being able to defend yourself properly brings some responabilities and now you know. -
Nice post DC. What you say reminds me what Bruce Lee said about reducing the unessential.

Very nice article, my congratulations. One thing I did not understand, it is about your experience with marathon... why, in your opinion, you could not repeat the experience you had Melbourne marathon?

Ju-jitsu vs. Karate
italian_guy replied to Sky's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I agree with SR, Karate is NOT a pure striking art like kickboxing, it has throws, locks, and ground fighting (I'm also talking about okinawan karate but this is true also for wado ryu). BTW even kickboxing has sweeps so even kickboxing has little grappling in it.OK very little. -
I fully agree with that. If your instructor does not tell you if you are ready or not you must judge by yourself. If you think you can make it go for it. Best luck! Even if the test does not go well, it's not the end of the world, it will help to know yourself better.

I prefer machines to free weight because with machines it is harder to make wrong movements. About strategy I agree with MJ (yes once again) it is better to do 2-3 reps with very heavy weight (pure strength) or something like 6 reps very fast (explosive strength) add 3 min rest between sets (3-4 sets total).

I started MA in march 2003 when the gym opened a course on kickboxing. I started doing it and I liked it a lot. Soon I started to feel the need for a complement for kickboxing because even if it was very good for fitness very fun and quite easy to learn I wanted to learn more about MA so I started cross training in JKD/kali in september 2003 but that experience lasted only one month because we were only two students and the school closed. Then in January 2004 I stated Tai chi chuan yang style. This is totally different from kickboxing and still I enjoy it. Later on I wanted to replace my kickboxing with something more rounded and traditional so I startd karate (april 2004) and I really love it. Now I consider Karate my first art and TCC my cross-training, and I think that I found the kind of training I was looking for. This is my MA story.
