  1. Can you give few more details? It is dojo (karate)politics or general politics? What you mean by been drawn in a fight responding with violent action to your sensei? If the situation is as bed as I can understand from your statement (but I think they should be more specific) I think you better leave. What you can learn in a place where you had a physical argument with your sensei?
  2. I agree with ehat has been said by the others okinawan karate martial artists... I can add that in my dojo we also practice ground fighting, I do not know if this is part of a standard goju ryu curriculum but this is also what we currently do.
  3. You can bet I agree with that... but in his initial post he mentioned he would like a MA with a lot of kicking and TCC has not that many kicks.
  4. 3 to 5 years both in my Karate and my Kung fu school.
  5. anch'io Anche tu fai TCC oltre che fare karate?
  6. I also think that jumping school to school is a bad practice. However there may be hidden bugs in the various schools that reveal themself after some time... like the ones that BlobOn found on his second school and then the more time you stayed the more is harder to quit... and this for various reasons. I think it takes much courage to leave a school after some time and restart over into another school.... but there are things we must do even if they are unpleasent to some degree.I also understand what BlobOn says about meeting his old instructor to prove him he was wrong.... It is not desire for revenge but just to give a contribution to improve some evironment that once we were part of.
  7. Thanks a lot!! very good link.
  8. Congratulations. And I'm glad you enjoied.
  9. I'm glad to hear that. Yesterday I also had a very nice sparring session too. I was sparring with a quite experieced Black belt (I'm yellow belt) at a certain moment he tried to throw me... I resisted to his throw and applied a counter throw and he fell down!!! Then he used his experience and he grabbed my gi sleeves in such a way I couldn't give him the final punch... but that was exiting. I had also other sparring bouts to higher level belt and althogh they probably score more points then me I was very satisfied with the outcome. The good lesson here is put everything you have in the fight (body, mind and spirit) and you will not be disappointed.
  10. I think that shadowboxing is a good exercise however punching should be done focusing on speed and technique in a very relaxed manner, no power needed here you cannot knockout air! Heavy bag work is a different exercise, it make sense in two different ways both with a person holding it in the back (for full power training) but also without anybody holding it, in this case the swing of the bag may emulate (somehow) the movement of an opponent and you learn to hit something that moves.
  11. I agree with senna_trem 3 hours (back and forth) are definively too much... and I think Kyokushin is a very good karate style.
  12. Go ju ryu karate here, with Tai chi chuan yang style cross training... BTW June1 I think that TCC and karate mix quite well.
  13. Cool was he on kata or on kumite?
  14. Never be discouraged. Have a positive attitude, you are sparring to learn, the better is your opponent, the more you learn, even if it looks you've been overwhelmed, there always a lesson to be learnt, expecially if you re-analyze your actions after each sparring bout. You can even learn from weaker opponents sometimes. Concerning the people who make you feel like a weak rookie, just forget about them and focus on your training. One day maybe you'll be better then them. Osu
