I don't think you want to leave wing chun for JKD for the stance. I think there are deeper reason, (maybe you are not satisfied with the teaching or maybe you are tired to do a TMA and you would like something which has a more direct approach to self-defence) what I suggest you is look inside yourself and find the REAL reason why you want to quit WC. Once you find the reason you will find also the answer to this question.

I'm not an expert in kempo, some techniques look just too fancy, but maybe it's the art. Anyway it doesn't look bad, but you have to try or at least watch at least one lesson to get the feeling of the school. How much do they charge?

I will bring up my point here. Sport Karate already exist. It is based on point sparring rules which already exist and in my opinion even if they reflects only a very limited aspect of karate (limited amount of techniques, very little contact etc.) they allow people to spar quite safely. So why not being an olympic sport? I think this will attract people also to the art. I wonder how many of you had a precise idea of what karate was when you started. If this is a way to actract people to karate as a whole I think it is positive. Even my dojo has the sport aspect, but does not neglect the traditional aspects. We have two classes one general class with kihon, kata, kumite, self-defence and another that does specifically sport kumite. I'm attending both and I don't dismiss the value of sport kumite. So since the sport aspect is there why not make it fully visible?

Controlling your nerves when doing kata in front of...
italian_guy replied to rivergirl's topic in Karate
Yes, I agree with most people mentioned, but I know (being myself a beginner) It's not easy, practice helps a lot, so practice in order to control every aspect of the kata. When you execute in front of the commission don't think about the outcome of the exam, don't think about people watching (and sometimes taking picture and movies) think only about the details of your execution. Good luck and until the day of the exam, keep practicing, even just by visualization, it helps I can tell you. -
Taking up Taiji
italian_guy replied to ninjanurse's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
You say that you are taking Tai chi during a convalescence period. I find strange that someone not in good shape can do taichi. Even if speed is not an issue, I remember it gives quite a good workout and if you are not in perfect health is not very easy to do. Can I ask you what kind of injury are you recovering from? -

I think that bunkai (kata application) should contain some self defence applications. Regarding board breaking I would not bother, here in italy most places don't do that any more. In my dojo we do some conditioning time to time but board breking is not practiced.

My training includes weapons in JKD/kali, but my karate school does not teach kobudo. So I put yes even if I consider karate as my primary art. (The main question needs to be edited so how can I do it?)
