Definitely Unsu. You can here him say it twice at the beginning if you listen closely. In our dojo we do perform this kata a little differently. The timing is different, and the jump is as well.

I tend to agree, there may be some guidelines on that basedon the organization the dojo is afilliated with. So the instructor/owner may have already agreed. Moreover it may have been prudent to consult the org before making the jackets.

I don't believe there is a service which provides this, if that is what you are asking. The link below describes how to write one, if that's your goal. You can easily adapt those instructions for MA http://jobsearch.about.com/od/curriculumvitae/

We do a 5-Kata Kumite. It is a bunkai exercise combining techniques from 5 selected Kata. It is usually from the five Heians (Pinans etc), and performed with one person in the middle, and three attackers.

When learning this I put a chair in front of me to make sure my knee was up high enough. It wasn't if I moved or struck the chair.

I started doing martial arts when I was eight because my father felt it was a necessary skill. I moved on to Karate after a break when I was 14. I do it to keep active, remain focused & of course for self-defence.

We do a standard bow-in and bow-out. To begin we stand in the line, and the sempai will ask us to kneel. Then the bow to the front, and the bow to the sensei. (If we are rushed, an informal bow-in is acceptable.) In the end before we repeat the same steps to bow-out however we also go through our dojo kun in both English and Japanese. There is a Chito-Ryu dojo in this city as well, and they end their classes by saying "Thank you for the pain."

When we grade black belt students, we have to have 2 judges that are at least 2 ranks about the grade the student is testing for (if that isn't too confusing!). So, two 3rd dans to test for 1st dan, etc. For us this is usually done with a presiding master who is in charge of the grading. S/he is usually attended by the person who is in charge of the province, and perhaps one other senior instructor.

Now you've got to go find some pebbles to kick around while you stuff your hands in your pockets. So, my question would be if you are praticing any martial arts right now? In practicing a physical martial art as well as internal practices you may find yourself finding what you need - at least in part. Many people who start practicing a physical art will grow in self confidence very quickly.

I saw one site online but can't locate it again. Odd, but as I recall Google found at least two places in your state. -
I agree, take it slow, you dn't want to hurt yourself. BTW I think you and I know one another, my dojo is part of the New Brunswick JKA-WF because we only have one dojo on PEI.

My Friend Needs Your Thoughts and Prayers!

My prayers as well. -
That sounds very similar to the regulations I'm used to for the ISKF. That is very helpful information, thank you very much. As for additional questions I do have a couple. 1. What are the categories? e.g. adult brown, adult black, youth etc. 2. What are the typical fees? 3. Is there anything unique to the etiquette? 4. Do they have a standard ruleset/tournament guideline I can check out online? 5. Do you recommend a particular person to contact in Canada where I can verbally (or email) chat with on this tournament? If you have any tips on their judging, techniques, etc then I'd be very thankful as well. Thanks

You're welcome. I guess no one on this forum is part of that org. I'll send them an email and get some information. I'll post it here for anyone interested

That is an example of one of the benefits of martial arts training.

what's wrong with power through anger? I would imagine jesus was upset when he chased the money changers from the temple. I would imagine soldiers were upset when they were in battle but had Him on their side. There is no commandment that states not to get angry, and if I'm not mistaken, nowhere in the bible does it tell you to not get angry. Anger is a natural emotion. What's important is what you do with that emotion. anger and hate are drastically different. I wasn't saying anything against anger at all. I was referring to the source of a person's power. In this case we were referring to generating power for martial arts as well. I seriously doubt Jesus starting beating people up just because he was a little angry.

It's the International Traditional Karate Federation. Here is a link to their website: http://www.itkf.org/ I am thinking it is similar to the JKA.

I've just learned that the same weekend as my own Shotokan National Tourney, there's an ITKF tourney occuring. I might check it out when I'm not competing...anyone know anything about the ITKF, or their tournaments?
-
Indeed I am. We learn our core grading kata (The 5 Heians, Tekki Shodan & Bassai-Dai) up to 3rd kyu (my rank). But when we get to 3rd kyu we learn the remaining six, so we can practice them for tournaments & bunkai.

Thank you everyone. It's great to feel loved. The foot does feel much better. Painkillers and walking a bit have improved the feeling, I can't put all my weight on it right now but I can walk just fine. I'll be fine in a week or so I think.

In my system you can't participate in tournaments or gradings without the membership. This tracks your rank records and validates your eligibility.
